0:00 Introduction: How to tell if you’re in ketosis
0:50 Signs of ketosis
10:25 Learn more about how to do the keto diet!
Today I want to cover nine signs you’re in ketosis.
Testing your ketones when you first start the keto diet can be helpful. But, the problem with testing your ketones long-term is that once you start to burn ketones efficiently, the tests aren’t very accurate.
Thankfully, there are nine clear signs that can tell you if you're in ketosis or not.
Top signs of ketosis:
1. No keto transitioning symptoms (keto flu, keto fatigue, keto rash)
2. Weight loss (initial water weight)
3. Loose clothes around the waist
4. An increase in energy
5. A boost in cognitive function
6. Less inflammation and pain
7. Feeling satisfied after eating
8. Better mood
9. No appetite

  • Dr. Berg, you have changed my life! It's not even about the weight (from 190 lbs to 130lbs), I am no longer obsessed with food, I have insane amounts of energy, I sleep better, my mind is clear, I no longer need anxiety medication, I look like I'm in my 20s (I'll be 43 this year)and I feel proud of myself and my new lifestyle (over a year now)! I am sharing your videos with everyone! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 (I haven't yet done strictly healthy keto, but I do limit the amount of carbs I eat. I mostly fast between 16-18 hours every day with a 24 hour fast every week or two...i can't imagine how much improvements I will see once I do healthy keto!

My oncologist recommended Keto 2 years ago to help me with the 28 lbs of fat I gained around my midsection following radical hysterectomy and immediate menopause following cancer surgery… it worked and like you I feel like I’m 30 years old again (I’m 58) and am constantly active and sleep a deep and restorative sleep. • This has changed my life. 43 year old now. I have been hospitalised with treatment resistant, severe clinical depression since my early 20s. Had ECT treatment as in in patient on a psyche ward for 3 months. Didn't work. I have yo-yo'd in my weight due to eating my feelings & drinking excessively and anti-psychotic meds that defined my life. Calorie counting worked to a point... but old habits soon creep back in. Weight went down.. depression kicked in...weight went up. Rinse. Repeat. I have gone from 400 lbs down to 190 lbs up to 370 lbs 3 times since 2018. This was my last chance... this year, then I was going to give up. Everyrhing. I was done. Jan 10th... 361 lbs. On 3 prescription meds for depression, anxiety, and mynheart. Pre-diabetic. July 19th... 235 lbs (on the way to 190). No meds. I walk every day. 6 to 12 g carbs max. OMAD. Apple Cider Vinegar... I use Saunas... I use electrolytes... I use BVitamins, DVitamins I use milk thistle, riboflavin etc etc... but I eat clean keto. Salmon, eggs, chicken, chia, cottage cheese, brocolli, asparagus And now... No meds. Blood Sugar avg is 4.5. No depression. No anxiety. I sleep 7 hours and wake gladly at 5.00am I have saved my life and enhanced it in ways I never thought I would. I should and would have been dead. I'm thinking of working again. This isn't a miracle but feels like one. Calorie counting isn't enough. Slimming world is a disgrace... I've taken my time to understand and research all the processes and science behind the ketoenic lifestyle... the value of acetic acid and fasting. How vitally important sleep is. This all starts and ends in your mind. Everything else happens secondarily. Dr Berg. I thank you for your guidance. Also equally Thomas deLauer and James Smith for talking sense. This stuff works. If you meet these guys halfway...and put in the work, you can save your life. Good luck to you all. (apologies for the meandering ramble, but this is only youtube, and it's a brain dump. I am usually more eloquent than this). Again bless you all.

My meals are much smaller and I am fine just even eating someting small cause I don't feel the need or want to eat and don't have any hunger pains. If exercising, I may get a grumble, but to be honest, after about 5-10 minutes it disappears and I am back to feeling satiated again. So glad I stumbled on this video! Thank you!

  • My friends laugh at me doing keto. I already lost 35 lbs since March 2023. It has been 4 months then. Both of my friends are not thin and they have big mid sections. I adviced them to do this diet, and still bugged off the idea. They are still laughing and insisted that keto is not for everyone. One of my friends did a blood test recently. He is now Prediabetic, 6.4 on his A1C, also high uric acid, cholesterol. I adviced again, they shrugged off the idea. The other friend, has heart disease. This day, they still insist that keto diet is not universal. They laugh at my progress. Now I focus on my progress and just let them be. I dont want to laugh at them or ridicule even. I just pity deep inside. Dr. BERG, I really admire your content here on KZhead. Thank you for this! Because of you, I am doing amazing progress and also on the safe side. Cheers

  • I am writing to you from Greece and you have changed my life. I've never been overweight, but I've gained a few extra pounds over the last decade, which I'm slowly losing. But what I did not expect is the miracle that intermittent fasting brought to the biggest problem that had been tormenting me for over 20 years or so. The very frequent (almost daily) headaches. With the omad method, which I have been following for some time, it has decreased drastically. No doctor could find the cause. No doctor thought that my insulin and glucose levels might be too high. Doctors were loading me with various pills, while there is such a simple solution for our health. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤

    • My headaches stopped also, amazing and unexpected. Amongst many other health benefits. My headaches stopped due to change of diet (LCHF), not time restricted eating - which I started unintentionally several months later.

    • @@margaretgibbs1007 That's great. I'm glad it helped you. I know that if I had put even more weight on the keto diet, my results would have been even better and faster. Anyway, I noticed a big difference. I reduced a lot of sweets, but did not eliminate them completely. Maybe I'll get around to it sometime. But omad taught me to break the bad habit of emotional eating. In recent years, I've always had a craving for chocolate and other unhealthy snacks like potato chips, etc. At least I don't have space for that now, although I sometimes treat myself to a piece of chocolate at the end of a meal. It's great to get rid of bad habits and watch how positively things suddenly change.

  • Great video. I am constantly debating whether intermittant fasting or ketogenic diet is better. I think 24 hour fasting is much easier to actually do. It's more straight forward and you are more sure that you are not cheating if all you're consuming is water. But I love it when my body is in ketosis. It takes discipline, but it's highly effective. I think either or both are great as long as you eat clean.

With high ketone levels your bio computer is kinda in turbo mode. You feel like you process more information than before. Your mind is sharp like a leopard on the hunt. Doc, You could add sign 10. Faster wound healing. I had a bad cut on the hand. Weak later healed, another week i couldn't tell the exact spot.

Energy is through the roof, just to sort out the coffee and alcohol intake. I mainly eat beef, chicken, eggs and fish. I stopped eating bread 6 weeks ago due to IBS and started to cut out all carbs snacks etc. Also I finding that I'm drinking approximately 2-2.5 litres of sparkling water per day. Thank you for the video.

  • Thank you Dr Eric. Went on keto 4 months ago and was peeing like a horse for the first few weeks! I love spinach and salads anyway, so I never had keto flu. I went all in from the start with 16:8 fast which I continue to this day. Keto is now a way of life rather than a diet. I've lost almost 60lbs and my waist has gone from almost 40 inches, back to my younger 34 inches. I'm 67, never been on meds and always felt quite fit. However, I feel fitter than I have ever been and my mood is mostly super composed - neither hyper up or hyper down, which happened on occasions in the past. I wish I went on keto 30 years ago. Thank you for all your advice and recommendations. You are a godsend, sir🙏👍

  • 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:13 📊 Traditional ketone tests like urine and breath tests are not very accurate for tracking ketosis. 01:37 🥗 Symptoms like keto flu, fatigue, and rash may occur during transition into ketosis, but can be mitigated through proper nutrition. 03:12 ⚖️ Initial weight loss on keto is largely due to water weight, and sustainable fat loss is around 1-2 pounds per week. 05:44 🔋 Ketosis leads to increased energy levels as fat offers more calories per gram than carbs. 10:05 🍽️ Loss of appetite is the best indicator of being in ketosis, as your body starts utilizing stored fat as energy.

  • I’ve planned my next keto diet to start on the Monday next week. My plan of action is to go for a 2 stone drop in weight from 15 stone down to 13 stone. I’m going to cut of sugar completely and any for of carbohydrates sticking to mainly red meats and vegetables. I’m also going to implement intermittent fasting into the mixture of things staying under a 1000 caloric restriction. I know I have to do this to help me mentally as well as majorly my physical health. I’m also doing 10-15k steps a day currently. This whole year has been about trying to transform from being overweight to a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle for myself.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m pretty acidic right now, and might be experiencing some gouty symptoms in my ankle and in my left collarbone. But then again, past couple of days, I haven’t hydrated properly either. Overall, I’m extremely happy that I started this journey, and am accomplishing what I set out to do in the beginning, which was to do a hard reset on my life. And while that had a lot to do with weight loss, it also had to do with removing toxic people from my life, social media, alcohol, and making room in my life for more important things, like learning new skills for a new career, finances, and just life in general.

But I made one change in the time I eat my one meal per day. First it was at 17:00 but I read a new research saying that the best for the glucose in the blood is to eat in the first 8 hours after you wake up. Now I eat at 13:00 and it is so much better. I feel happy all the time. It has been the greatest blessing in my life!!! I would encourage anyone to try it, (keto), just for 30 days. It has been amazing. I wish I had discovered this diet sooner. • Dr Berg has helped me understand my body much better. Most of my life; I've been very thin and rarely get hungry. In fact for me, the problem is actually eating in the first place. This was always a very confusing experience for me, because most people I know have to watch their appetites because they can eat and eat and eat. I just can't do that! When I go to a restaurant, I can only eat half of the meal, I save the rest for another time, etc. I never understood why until I found Dr. Berg's videos. See, my dad died when I was a child and my mom had to work all the time; so I basically fed myself. So, growing up, I ate very rarely; because honestly I was much more interested in video games. There was a period of time, I would wake up and just eat bacon and eggs. Looking back; it makes a lot of sense that I wasn't hungry - I must have been in ketosis. It wasn't something wrong with my body - it was the fact that since being a kid; I ate few carbs, and rarely ate 3 meals a day. So, I must not have felt hungry because I was not consuming enough carbs to be hungry like other people. Nowadays I've confirmed this because, if I wake up and start eating carb-heavy food straight away; then I get much more hungry and I can eat a lot of carbs throughout the day. But its kinda funny how to become hungry; one has to eat...

    • Even a super thing person has fat available for the body to burn, I wouldn't worry about it. Eating carbs is a life of suffering. Once you get off them, you realize that they were causing most of your stomach and bathroom problems. Personally when I don't eat carbs like bread and rice and sugar, I have almost no problems. That in itself is quite motivating to be honest... having pains in the bathroom sucks!@@vadymvv
