  • Your coach is terrifying. All I have to say. He's capitalizing so easily on any mistakes, managing the range, and He's also either messing up your rhythm, or making you fight at his pace. All the while he had his hands down. Surprising to see he isn't in Karate Combat yet. He'd piece up a lot of people real fast.

  • The way you guys spar really restores my faith in karate. There is so much nuance and high quality striking, blocking and head movements. Will definitely enjoy seeing more of this content. Perhaps add a round that also allows some take downs because I feel that that is quite important to simulate a fight, perhaps no need to add ground work because that is too far removed from karate and this kind of exercise.

  • Man, you can never get enough sparring. When I started sparring at around 12 years, I would do it a lot less frequently compared to now and I really didn't like it back then (I didn't fully understand its importance and how enjoyable it can be if you treat it as a learning experience). Now, I'm in high school and I love sparring when I get the chance. Each training session that I spar in, I feel like I always come out of it with just a little bit more knowledge. Thanks for making great and relatable content, Nat!

  • I'm here because some dude commented on one of my videos and told me I should give back my black belt. When I asked why and who he would hold up as the standard for black belts, he said I wasn't anywhere near as fast or as skilled as Nat Hearn. So take that as a compliment, I guess. Even my trolls are your fans. 🤣 I knew who you were, but hadn't watched you spar. This is cool. It's clear your coach is bringing out the best in you (except for a little too much tension maybe). Love your head movement and combos. I've seen your coach's videos on Insta. Sharp, technical karate. It's great to see that reflected here with some contact and a spirit of play. Well done!

Continuously for atleast an hour or two.

I have also noticed that through your channel you want to create respect for karate and demonstrate that it is as serious and effective as other martial arts and sports that are full contact like MMA that is currently really popular. Always considering that sports karate is only semicontact. I am a fan of yours and I understand that you want to bring karate closer to full contact martial arts and sports. However what I dont get is why you always show sparring with boxing gloves, I have practiced wado ryu and goju ryu karate and in kumite sparring we always have used sports karate gloves, I have seen videos of you performing katas when you were a child but never seen you competing in kumite

  • This is amazing and absolutely lovely. I have been trying to mix up my kicks because I am weaker in my wrists. This is amazing for learning! Thank you. Some questions though: my sensei says that I am not allowed to make low kicks. Is that because of the form we are training in, or because I am still a blue belt? Also; what are some mixups for kicks wich I can train for sparring. Amazing content, keep it up!

    • As far as I know its not a traditional target area in karate or taekwondo. That said if you wanna learn to fight maybe look into some different dojos or gyms.

    • Some dojos might not teach low kicks in their syllabus, and thank you I will👊

    • It’s about snapping femurs and destroying ACL’s a good dojo wants you training for longevity so even a light mewashigeri can destroy the knee then you can’t train. My dojo does it too but better to be safe then sorry. If anyone messes with you in the streets though..😈👺👹

  • All this sparring but I’m 260 brother (but seriously watching you guys is so much fun I wished more karate guys would compete in kickboxing let alone spar kickboxing)

  • All martial arts stem from the same root and you should learn from each other. There are multiple ways to the top of the martial summit. Add combatives and pressure test them fully. Keep going Nat. Ous.

  • Aswome! I'm glad to see that there are still dojos practicing karate in an old effective way. I'm tired of seeing pepole refering to sport karate as the real karate.

  • I think what would be interesting is your coach giving advice to you after the sparring session if you make a video like this again.
