Same thing to mine yesterday. Hardly ever wore them. Apparently this is happening to lots of other brands as well. Columbia, Sorel, etc. The "rubber" being used has more plastic polymers than rubber in them. Making them less flexible and faster to deteriorate. Over time they will dry up and shatter whether you use them or not. Its planned obsolescence. They dont want to make boots that last 5 or more years or they will go out of business. Honestly i wouldn't mind paying more if they lasted longer. But the price they want for a product that lasts less than 2 years is criminal.

Mine actually disintegrated as I wore them!!! Toe boxes cracked like a wine glass and delaminated above the toe box area as I wore them!!! Garbage materials!!!! WORTHLESS!! We’ll see about this replacement but I expect the same; extremely disappointing. Not worth $5! Never had a hockey skate do this; try some good materials rather than those which can’t flex without COMPLETELY FAILING!! They’ll replace them once, however to disintegrate immediately upon use is concerning…gotta figure to replace. Thanks for nothing North Face!
