      @JR-uu1xl@JR-uu1xl4 ай бұрын
    • @@JR-uu1xl I am not sure if it is the same now, but last century some of the "Knock Offs" were made by the same companies contracted to make the authentic stuff, they would just change the label/print to the knockoff label and do another run. So if you get lucky you might be getting the same item as the brand item without the brand name markup.

    • Temu and Wish exist to force small businesses to close. Temu might have higher quality (usually) than Wish, but they lose money on every sale because the goal isn't to make a profit, it's to ensure that people buy from Temu instead of from smaller or local businesses. It's the same thing that Amazon did but with more 'questionably ethical' labour.

      @ThewickedVik@ThewickedVik4 ай бұрын
    • Yeah if you think the cost is just about 1-2$ worth of resin, you have never printed at any kind of scale. There is an expected lifetime of the very expensive curing screens, the consumed electricity, IPA, Nitrile gloves, FEP replacement screens, time spent overseeing, removing and sanding supports and then quality control. It's the same as saying "driving a car is cheap because a liter of gasoline only costs x amount". It ignores like 50 other associated costs and maintenance.@@lordkubikum

  • With regard to the airbrush, I have one almost exactly the same and, while they'll never work as well as a good quality brush, you can drastically improve these cheap brushes with a couple of simple steps. First, replace the cheap, nasty, rubber O rings with decent nitrile rubber ones and, most importantly, polish the needle with some very fine (at least 1000 grit) wet/dry sandpaper. A lot of the issues with these brushes is simply down to lack of finishing at the factory to save production costs, so a little work will greatly improve these, although there's no substitute for a good quality brush like a Harder & Steenbeck, Iwata or similar, but they're OK to get you started for a fraction of the cost. I still use my cheapo brush, but now I generally use it just for primers or varnishes on larger items.

    • Yeah, I've never seen one of their video before and pretty much lost any confidence in them the moment they labeled the airbrush a 10/10 scam. For one, it's what, $20? Did it work? Looks like it did to me. I understand english may not be their first language and maybe thats the issue but who knows? I'd think labeling something like an airbrush a 100% scam would at least mean it doesn't work at all. Nope, works fine. And in case my first point was missed, you get what you pay for. A scam is when someone is promoting things that aren't true for usually for some kind of profit. And in that regard, NOTHING was a scam. I'm assuming you can actually see pics of these things on the site, mainly because it's 2023 and if you ordering shit sight unseen nowadays and feel "scammed" you're a moron. The rest of the vid is them just trashing things and giving a random star count, like they're shopping at the five star warhammer painting outlet. I'm trying to watch a few more vids before passing judgement, but not exactly off to a great start. (btw thanks for random tips, just starting painting myself and really hoping it becomes a hardcore hobby for me)

    • For fine grit or any sanding with wet sand paper, specially when working with metals, i would highly suggest using little tab of oil like wd-40 on the paper before you start. Oil wet sanding will give finer result and allows to use paper far longer before it gums up and usually little more oil will get it going again. I have small peaces of paper that has been served for several projects due this. While i would not go to sand wood and most plastics with the same paper afterwards, if you work with metal its god sent how long you can use same peace. You can also use double sided carpet tape to glue the paper into peace of plastic or wood put the needle or what ever round object protected by tape into cordless drill and if centered in chuck properly hold the wood/sand paper with front fingers and hold it against the metal with thumb while sliding it along the part and up and down the paper for even finish. Finally use polishing compound and rags to smooth and clean everything. Just my two cents on fixing things like that in cheap tools. Also as side note, you can make your own "drill bit" from straight piano wire peace, just diamond file sharp end and the flatten two sides. It needs to be removed often the remove chips but beats buying micro drillbit set when piano wires come in 0.05mm increments. Piano restorer/builder/tuners propabably have loads of them around to get the material for free or really cheap. Also can be used to make custom springs.

    @dudeinthesuit2@dudeinthesuit25 ай бұрын
    • That design of sprue clipper is actually not supposed to be aligned. There is nothing stopping the cutting action until the two blades hit so it's designed not to meet sharp edge to sharp edge. So it cuts easy, but not clean on larger objects. Old school plastic modellers will be familiar with this kind of tool. God Hand and the like made it obsolete. I still use my 30 year old Testors nipper with this design, though.

  • Sculpting Set was for Ceramic based clay where you'd need a sponge sometimes. Guaranteed that exact sculpting set is for sale on some knock off pottery place too. Edit: Also light boxes are meant to blow out the backdrop. The photos you took light the models nice but the back drop is this drab grey. with your method you'd need a second light to illuminate the backdrop. If you want to amp up the light box results tone the light down a bit and use some white paper or a reflector and bounce some light back on the mini to get more detail into the shadows. You guys should work with a photographer or something and do a little mini lighting tutorial!

    • @@tommyakesson8858 Not sure if he was or not, but there are lots of types of professional photographer. You wouldn't necessarily want a wedding photographer doing product photography or a graduation photographer shooting a wedding. I shot jewelry for years, a light box was a must. Using a single light source is rarely good though. If he had combined the light box with it's light on, the desk lamp, and a grey or white background sheet out of the kit it likely would have beaten both the pictures he showed. That definitely isn't the light box I'd pick if I were buying one though.

I ordered the same LotP tarrasque off of Etsy, and the model looks great, but even at a larger size it was still smaller than I needed to really make my players afraid. So it sat in my pile of shame for a while until I brought it to a local convention to paint for their at-con mini painting contest. That tarrasque then became my first (and so far only) contest win.

Temu and it's parent company are under ongoing investigation for installation of spyware on users devices, extraction of personal data to then take repeated charges from bank accounts, and use of slave labour. While the concept of these style of videos is fun, I'd take some time to make sure 1) your data and devices are safe and 2) do a little reading on the charges for sites like temu, wish, shien etc. and consider if you're comfortable giving them any attention, positive or negative, in future vids

I had a few left over from when our bathroom flooded and we had to change all the tiles. Luckily, the ones I have are quite thick and relatively large, still, I can easily place them either on the floor or on the table or even stack them together if it's a larger jank machine. Most people have some trash like this lying around their storage. I had a few sticky situations and they held up great. I'll check that little machine out.

  • The foam cutter is honestly safer than some I've seen. There's really not much to them. A source of voltage passed through some resistance wire (nichrome wire, usually). The resistance wire has a resistance given in ohms per metre, you measure out how long you want it to be, calculate how many ohms that is, and then calculate your voltage such that you're in the 20-30 watt range. No need to be precise. Worst case scenario, you'll never get the nichrome wire hot enough to burn the MDF (maybe singe it lightly, but not start a fire). You're more likely to just burn out the wire, and that'll go like a lightbulb filament. It won't catch fire. I used to work in an electronics store, and people would come to me asking for the stuff they need to build a hand-held foam cutter using nichrome wire, and a lithium ion battery AS THE HANDLE. I told them "sure, I can sell you everything you need to blow your fingers off when the battery catches fire".

I had no experience at all, clogged pretty often because I didn't know sh*t about airbrush. Despite thorough research, it doesn't make up for experience. Spent 40 minutes cleaning because it was so expensive... Didn't reuse since I bought a cheap Chinese airbrush that I clean in 10 minutes without being worried. I'd use my Evolution again now that I'm more experienced, but I've found that for zenithal highlights and painting terrain, it does the job 10/10... • Honestly, I once bought a really cheap synthetic set from Amazon that was ~6 brushes for 7£ and one of them turned out to be better than my Citadel Layer brush whilst the rest were trash, and the brushes were definitely not that high quality, so maybe you just get good luck for brushes sometimes?

  • Im not sure you know what scam means... You got what was on the picture and for the price u paid... Thats not a scam, thats just high expectations for no reason. If they sent you a rock or a low quality product for HIGH price than it's a scam...but that did not happen. I bought a few items from them and got what I expected for the price... Low quality but sufficient for use so exactly what I wanted :D

  • Some of this stuff certainly looks better than the Wish stuff you guys bought and I'm going to say come that hobby starter set yes the blades will likely be cheap and nasty blades do dull so even a beginner will be buying new blades so they've got a decent starter and hobby knife handle on the cheap as the blades are pretty universal.

It gets the job done even if its temperamental at best

  • That airbrush looks like the one I got in a kit with my compressor but packaged differently. Might just been one that fell off of the quality control line, but tbf you probably still got over charged. Look up FENGDA-130. Been using it for a few years, works 'good enough' but because of how the cup connects to the airbrush, paint always traps in the cup and you don't get to use up all the paint you put in

  • The lightbox doesn't feel very fair. I get your point about lighting and just using plain paper but the product itself was the reason it was a scam or not and I'd say as far this light box vs other lightboxes its pretty solid at that price point and to see it comes with a bag and extra backgrounds I genuinely like it. I think at worst it should've been rated a 2/10

    @chowrites6179@chowrites61795 ай бұрын
    • And he didn't even use the backgrounds, which are the whole deal of a lightbox. And if he had just put the table light above the box, the contrasts would have been better. Good painter, not very good photographer it would seem.

Most of the miniatures and craft stuff has been great from Temu and I know it probably isnt an ethical place to order from, but for things I cannot make myself and the financial constraints of current times it has been super helpful. I only bought the Dragon because hes so pretty, I will probably use him in my Medieval Fantasy diorama, because why not?

The hot wire doesn't get nearly hot enough to ignite MDF and MDF is non conductive. There are so few parts on here I can't imagine how it could possible start a fire with 4 measly batteries.
