Cannon was 40 when Trump appointed her to this job. I believe Trump made a back-room deal for a lifetime job as a judge in return for favoritism if any case came before her. Cannon was a Federalist Society member (hard right conservative). So the prospect of promoting her opinions as a federal judge for life would be attractive, just like it was for the three Supreme Court justices he appointed.

Federal judges are appointed for a term of "during good behavior" or life, whichever comes first. So basically they have to be impeached by Congress under current law to be removed. Alternately, Congress could pass a law defining "bad behavior", such as corruption or conflict of interest, which would remove a judge from office. For now, all we have is her boss, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, removing her from the case if she makes a "reversible error" (something the appeals court can reverse). Special Counsel Smith has been saving up her mistakes, but she hasn't made one bad enough to get kicked off the case yet. Mostly she has skated by doing very little and dragging things out. If Trump loses the election, though, all the cases will eventually run to their conclusions. His civil cases (E Jean Carroll and Trump Org Fraud) are being appealed, and eventually that will end too. So the serious penalties are coming. My personal opinion is he may run out of money, and therefore lawyers, before all of this is done. Lots of lawyers is the main reason he's been able to delay things until now.

Revised laws need to pass to limit all these extraneous appeals that are clearly delay tactics. The rich can drag out trials to the point of absurdity. Someone should research the lawsuits against Trump that were dismissed because the plaintiffs could not afford to keep litigating their cases because of monetary constraints. @russruss2446 is wrong! He quite literally tells on himself EVERY SINGLE TIME he opens his mouth! Why? Because he canNOT control himself AND he's VERY STUPID. While he puffs his chest out, bragging about all the things he's done, or plans to do, thinking he's sounding SO DAMNED SMART, people end up laughing because he's actually telling on himself. Not long ago he was addressing a huge crowd, and said something that to him was totally serious, but the entire crowd started laughing. I mean, not a giggle, but rather an uproarious laughter for several minutes! You could see he was confused, and didn't really what to say order at that moment, so he leans close in to the mic, rolls his eyes really hard , and he says "uhh, I was totally being serious right there, so I uhh, I don't know what all the laughing is about?" Well then the place just goes full on gut buster laugh, like they've just heard the funniest joke ever written! So, as if that wasn't funny enough, you know how some people clap when they're laughing and love what they've heard? Yes. So, a bunch of people are laughing and clapping AT TRUMP and what he's just said, and just then, Mr. "I'm a genius" (yes, I know he spells it differently!) looks up sees people clapping, and starts clapping for himself! Apparently, he'd forgotten they were making fun of hm! *sorry for the long story, but well worth it"
