    • I remember when SV released I was kinda disappointed by the running physics. Running feels more like sliding over the ground. It was perfect in PLA. It really surprises me how Nintendo was ok with releasing SV in this state (not because of the running but the major technical issues) while they release a monster of a game that TOTK is..

    • @@martinasdfg2629 it definitely took the great ideas from Arceus and even expanded on them a bit yeah but the glaring issues of stability and quality just wasn't there. It is an embarrassment. I still have it in my Switch but I've yet to see a patch that makes me jump in again. To use this very video as reference, TofK is OVERKILL in both quantity and quality. The fact it runs mostly decent on the Switch is nuts to me. BotW even was crazy to me. Third party titles like Skyrim, Dying Light, Witcher 3, all are incredible and though graphics take a hit they aren't horrible if you remember what you're playing them on. The fact that Game Freak couldn't be bothered to follow up the (in my opinion) experimental PLA with the mainline scarlet/violet is beyond me. Maybe I'm too harsh, but I look at it this way - I bought PLA twice. Once for myself, and another time for my daughter, both full price. I spent over 100hrs in PLA on my own. Freaking loved it. By contrast, I tried Violet for just under 40. So some good time, but it was all I could handle. Either way, I'm still holding out for it. They can do better.

The console already had botw and xenoblade 3, both games having much more consistent action and detail in their larger worlds, and yet they function and perform significantly better. The switch is outdated and in need of a stronger console dont get me wrong, but it wasn't at fault for any of scar/vios short comings. The fact they still haven't addressed it in a video anywhere, but they had the nerve to charge $35 for dlc we've not even seen gameplay of, shows you everything you need to know. The text isn’t highlighted red like with main and side quests, it’s in the text, and when you investigate it it turns out to be really cool! It rewards exploration. • I'm really glad you touched on the NPC behavior. This is something that heavily bugs me in most games, Pokémon included. It is even worse when devs spend so much time making an environment look pretty, but have NPC basically be zombies. Zelda BotW/TotK's NPC's actually have routines and react to the environment around them which makes everything more believable and immersive. You don't get that by adding better graphics. Pokémon is neither a graphical showcase nor a design showcase. It just kind of half-asses everything.

    • @@nascour5991 To be fair, the LoZ games actually focused more on `innovation` then repeating the formula. Even when a good deal of them had almost the same layout, refer to Gameboy series of games aka back during Gameboy Color and Gameboy advance, they usually had some sizable differences in terms of game mechanics and even the artstyle tweaks on top of it would help to flesh them out better then feeling too much like a copy-pasta that some of the pokemon games could of felt like without jumping a LARGE number of generations, where they were technically making the game 2-3 times over up to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum till they did a sort of asset rehash kitbash of sorts when we got Black/White TWO as two games instead of just a `Gray version`. Some games in a sequential series of `mainline` can repeat a formula, but they usually EVOLVE the concept that it greatly shakes up base of the game, not added to it and remove elements constantly. Which the first half was how everything up to Diamond/Pearl for the most part and Black/White was kind of the start of them starting the process of dropping elements to the next title with X/Y making said elements REALLY part of the `main game formula` but dropping them for some other gimmick that usually ended up being much more watered down. Plus since Majoras mask and SSB`Melee were titles created off the back of previous entries which retained most of what said games performed, they atleast had alot more room for development since they did not have to be built from scratch too much. Technically same with Wind waker but only to a lesser extent. Honestly its the same argument alot of things in media(as far as i can tell) these days can be applied to: -People want a fun title, not a bunch of baggage attached to it. -Seriously, you could make a game as high depth in graphics as you can, but if your just basically playing some game that is worst then a PS1 era action game and on top of that it needs 6~24+ months to bake some more for bug quashing, well i think i would rather stick to the game that came out this year, art-style looks like its from the PS1 era, but it plays like a game that 10 or even 50 years ahead of its time in terms of polish (Kind of why im sure plenty of people got attached to games like the Metal Gear solid series and what not). -A single quality game polished extensively will always beat a collection of repeat-a-games that might as well be legacy collection titles, that they somehow introduced ten times more bugs to it, despite supposedly not `doing anything to the base games,` yet the minor tweaks they did to change up text or cram them into one physical disc/cartridge somehow broke them extensively.

  • What is worse about the 169 Developers part is: When Gamefreak (or any studio) is working on games they usually divide in teams to work on multiple projects. This essentially means that there were even less people involved in seperate games. Arceus and Scarlet Violet have been made from different teams within Gamefreak.

  • I'd say the fact that Xenoblade has released almost as many mainline games as Pokemon in between the releases of both Zelda games and still come out amazing while also assisting on other big Nintendo games goes to show how talented Monolithsoft is compared to Gamefreak. Granted Monolithsoft's staff had greatly increased since BotW and Xenoblade 2 to the point that they can work on so many projects. But I do think Gamefreak really needs to start increasing the size of their development teams if they really want to be more ambitious with Pokemon. It may have been easier during the sprite era, but in the 3D era, it's a lot harder. I honestly think comparing Pokemon to Xenoblade is better since they both occupy the same genre as JRPGs. Whereas Zelda is mainly action adventure.

  • What kills me - what just absolutely KILLS me - is that Legends Arceus had so much potential to be the reinvigorating force for open world Pokemon. Yet they rolled back the live catching and dex building, or you know, the _best thing about that game,_ immediately after that one. edit: I am aware the games were developed at the same time. But the very fact that there _was_ another mainline game being developed to not have this amazing feature in the first place is the problem. Not only do they not have the manpower to develop two massive open worlds simultaneously as the vid pointed out, but it shows they aren't willing to take true leaps forward with their formula in the main series. Last Pokémon game I got was Ultra Moon which I really liked it (didn't play the OG Sun/Moon when it came out) but as soon I saw the direction for the Pokémon games I took a leap back and look at other RPG games for the Switch like DQXI and Digimon, and I don't even regret my purchase at all. Because BOTW and TOTK are set so incredibly far from the Era of Legend when all the other games are, I don’t think it’s that impossible that Hyrule was destroyed at some point before being refounded by Rauru (similar to how Hyrule is destroyed in the Wind Waker before being reformed as new Hyrule before the events of Spirit Tracks). In fact this would thematically make sense and emphasize the endless and inescapable cyclical apocalypticism of Demise’s Curse. No matter how many thousands and thousands of years pass, the kingdom of Hyrule can never thrive and yet never fully die because the Blood of the Goddess and the Spirit of the Hero are eternally reincarnated to fight the Incarnation of Malice. Plus we know the previous games in the series did happen in some way shape or form because legend of them has survived to the current time and led to the creation of the former BOTW dlc and amiibo items that are now in the base game of TOTK by the royal family before being stolen by Misko the Great Bandit.

The stories of these games and their gameplay is so incredible that their lack of anyone talking about them beguiles me. Though if I did get you interested in xenoblade 3, I would give one piece of advice, play 1 or 2 beforehand. While xenoblade 3 is perfectly enjoyable as a standalone adventure due to it being set in a different world with a different cast than 1 or 2, certain parts of the game become infinitely cooler if you’ve played at least one of the games or both, and the game’s dlc campaign(future redeemed) outright spoiles major parts of those games(moreso 1 than 2). If you choose to play 3 before any others that’s perfectly fine, you’ll still have an amazing time, but I think it’ll be that much cooler if you’ve played at least one game before hand. One last tidbit though, if you do want to play xenoblade 3 first, DO NOT look up those “all the lore you need to know before getting into xenoblade 3” videos. They aren’t necessary as the game explains all of it’s lore well enough in it’s cutscenes and those videos also have to spoil aspects about xenoblades 1 and 2 which might ruin those experiences as well which is completely unnecessary for 3 because it’s still enjoyable as a standalone game.

Like I remember people using the defence that sword and shield were developed by a small team and were rushed, but then the giga chad xenoblade 2 was developed by even less people(as the majority of people at monolith soft were on breath of the wild, to the point most articles say that the majority of the game outside of stuff like the cutscene animation and VA work was done by at most 40 people) and about as much time, given that it started development very soon after X, meaning it’s dev timeline was from june 2015(X’s japanese release) to december 2017. In comparison, sword and sheild has about half of gamefreak behind it(about 70 people) and a slightly longer development period(based on the fact it was announced to be in development in 2017 the same year as ultra sun and moon, we can assume they were developed after sun and moon so I’d say it’s dev timeline was from November 2016-2019). The fact that 2 is still so much better astounds me given how little manpower it had for most of it’s development, to the point they literally had no in house artists.

The map is unnecessary huge in some areas, terrible villians, way too long cutscenes, forced relationships, no real cities except one, the treasure chests are most of the time pointless, money has no value etc. As I said Xenoblade 3 is good and everyone should play it but it's not perfect.

OoT, MM, and TP really need remakes instead of ports in todays day and age, a Metroid Prime Remastered TP game would be amazing but I doubt it and I imagine OoT 3D and MM 3D to get a remaster of those games as it’d be pretty easy to do and bundle those 2 together. OoT and MM seem very unlikely though considering how OoT3D is probably as close to perfection as is and Aonuma was absolutely callous in MM3D. And then there's also SSHD and the remake of LA to consider, that though the former was definitely a rather awkward port, is serviceable enough and the latter a very welcome surprise. The bottomline is that WWHD and TPHD could likely be brought over, but OoT and MM are absolute wild cards. • I will concede that legends arceus is one of the best new Pokémon games. I think they should focus on more innovating gameplay and pushing pokemon forward. Legends should’ve been the new Pokémon game for the next few years with DLC down the line, or have the next game take what legends did and improve upon it. I think a problem gamefreak has is they won’t take what worked with past games and improve upon the aspects that didn’t work. ORAS and legends are pretty big examples of this. Pokémon needs polish and if they focused on one good game rather than a deluge of mediocre games

  • To be honest, I know it’s drastic, but I want them to try going back to 2D. Not permanently, but just one remake of a previous game. Try doing what worked in the past, seeing how the fan base enjoyed it compared to the recent 3D titles, and go from there. If the experiment proves that 3D is more popular, then so be it. If 2D is better, however, they could either choose to keep their current schedule but go back to the old pixel style and not worry about camera glitches, lackluster move animations, and static Pokémon stances, or they could continue with the 3D titles, but slow down the development cycle to 2 years minimum and give more time and effort into perfecting them. Either improve the new design or go back to what worked in the past.

  • As a small but significant data: Masuda quitted GameFreak recently because he did not liked people despised bad games from a beloved franchise. PS: That chibi N image is as depressing as frustrating. I've been playing BIack in the last 2 weeks and I'm glad to say it's as good as I remembered, but also noticed that a massive strenght of those games was *presentation,* from music changing depending where you are in the city/cave to the bridges to Castelia city to the 3D cutscenes. And that presentation would be missed in a 3D chibi style instead of something more akin to Pokémon generations or Xenoblade; also I hope they don't dare to not animate them (they won't anyways), bacause those are amazing characters and visual animation can show A LOT of personality is difficult to visualize (So does good voices, another thing they won't do despite being in HD console and having voice actors for both the mobile game and Anime), like Ghetsis's manipulative personality, Bianca's clumsiness, N's doubt about his beliefs and others, Vero's passion for her wife, Alder's pain, Bianca's father ruthlessness, Skyla's cheery personality to a fault (Don't forget the cannyons landing in cold steel)... you get the point. I can both see a lot gained AND lost with 3D. Just like 3D can enhance the presentation significantly, it can also leave a very sterile feeling because no animation is just unacceptable when you see things in detail. And there's ways of enhance subpar animations btw, which is known as style, something Pokémon is also lacking btw.

  • This is one of those videos I felt like I had to watch the whole way through just to understand what it was you were trying to say; and a lot of it did eventually align with the personal gripes I have with Pokemon as a game series. Its not the Pokemon devs that are the issues, its the suits. I wholeheartedly believe that. I was watching a different video the other day about how "Sega is less overprotective of their IPs than Nintendo", and long story short, Sega was bought out by another company in 2004, and that company bought out Sega as a meatshield so they could grow as a pachinko machine company. They did not care about Sonic, they only cared about their reputation. You might start to think that this would impact the development of Sonic '06. It did. Same with just about every other release since. I have the video here in case anyone wants to watch it, I highly recommend. It at the very least loosely explains how capitalism works, give a bit more context for the comment, and I think a lot of it applies to just about any other company; including the Pokemon Company. (kzhead.info/sun/fNuNiKevqKeogYk/bejne.html\). The point however, is that if it makes money, and investors are happy to see something grow, then they will do whatever it takes for said something to grow. Another thing I think is worth pointing out, is that the Pokemon company, unlike most other Nintendo franchises, did not do notoriously well in other areas of entertainment (Mario being an exception as of late). Pokemon branched out not long after the game released, with Pokemon cards, anime, movies, toys, and more; which has seen much more success than things like the Zelda cartoon and Kirby: Right back at you. I'm not saying other Nintendo franchises hasn't branched out, I'm trying to say that none of those have seen quite the same success as Pokemon. When was the last time we seen these other game franchises branch out in quite the same way? Aside from memorabilia at Gamestop, I can't really think of anything else besides examples I've already mentioned. And the point is: I do not believe The Pokemon Company sees value in Pokemon as a video game franchise. They see the value in Pokemon as something more, an icon. Pikachu is something anyone can look at and go "oh! I know them", and some of which have never touched a mainline Pokemon game in their lives. There is a reason Pokemon is the best selling "multi-media franchise" and not "video game franchise". And because of this notion, I am also inclined to believe that the devs do care about the games at least enough to stay where they are. I don't think they're starving, I only have so much sympathy for them since I know the games have done well; but the video game industry as a whole is very competitive and toxic. There's only so much they can do. If Zelda was the hit multi-media franchise in the same way Pokemon was, I'm sure it would just turn out just the same. If we stop buying mainline Pokemon games in protest, they may just stop making them entirely. They have other ways to push the brand. (But lets be real, that would never happen.) I think we should just be grateful that Zelda hasn't fallen into the same type of corporate pandering that Pokemon has. P.S, you are allowed to enjoy anything regardless of what i say. (including pokemon)

(But lets be real, that would never happen.)"_ ...so what the hell are we supposed to do? "Not buying the games" is the only supposed solution to the games' waning quality that I've heard about, but if it's just gonna make things worse, then what are we supposed to do? Not buy the merch? There's millions of people who don't play the games that buy the merch and there's no way we're gonna stop them from doing so (plus it'd be kinda cruel). I mean, I've never bought a single Pokemon game, only played them on emulators (partially because I don't have a job yet, but also because of the reputation of recent games, so I just assume the next one is gonna be bad and not worth buying), so I don't know if I have the right to say anything in that matter, but still wanted to do it so that the fans that do might stumble upon this and get their answer (from you or someone else).

    • this is exactly what i'm trying to say. pokemon has evolved beyond just being a video game the games will sell regardless. I'm just saying in the hypothetical world where zero people buy the games, the pokemon company as a whole has plenty of other tricks up their sleeve (i.e the merch thing you just mentioned) that they won't have to push a "main series" anymore and just start doing their own thing. historically speaking, lugia was the first pokemon to appear in a piece of pokemon media that wasn't the games so its not too farfetch'd (pun intended) for them not to do something like that again. i think at this point they just let game freak make the games as more of a courtesy as opposed to looking for new talent; simply because they've been in the business for so long. i think this is why spin off titles don't get their own original characters outside of the trainers themselves. @@robertlupa8273
