Dimash sang Kazakh song "Daididau" with pride in the Singer 2017 competition and wowed the audience with his flawless performance. This song is based on a poem by famed poet and patriot Magzhan Zhumabayev. Find out the story behind this beautiful song. For English subtitles click "settings".

I'm American. Came here after learning how our talent show "World's Best" cut "Daididau" from one of his performances. He had worn this same traditional garment to sing Daididau mixed with Celine Dion's "All By Myself" (genius), but they cut off the Kazakh song "for time." Dimash, you are a world-class phenomenal talent, and I want to apologize on behalf of us Americans for our ignorance and ungratefulness. I noticed you had your parents in the audience wear their Kazakh clothing as well, and it upsets me that we didn't get to experience that moment fully! We're not all like that though. I, for one, want my countrymen to start acknowledging other cultures properly and be open to learning from and taking an interest in them.
Dimash's mother said in an interview that Dimash has 10,000,000 fans world wide. I would like to assure her that Dimash has many more Dears than than that. I suspect the number of Dimash's Dears is growing at an exponential rate every day and we have not seen anything yet. I also suspect we are about to witness a movement and phenomenon much larger and more necessary than anything we experienced with Michael Jackson or the Beatles. Maybe even bigger than politics itself. The grace, dignity and humility with which Dimash, his Family and his Country carry themselves is going to be a bright healing beacon of hope shined on the west.

This man has the ability to break my walls and make me feel vulnerable. Just with his voice he takes me on a trip. He's God's gift to this world. I'm pretty sure he can tame wild beasts with his singing. He does a great job soothing my soul that's for sure.

It makes such a big difference being able to understand what is being said and sung. Immediately the voice and the music makes you fall in love, but the translation let’s you know what you are in love with. The beautiful person that he is, is obvious fro. Such an early age. Yo Yo Ma said it takes 3 generations to create an artist of this caliber. How true it is. BRAVO TO Dimash and to his family and country to produce such a beautiful soul.

Gloria, the first time I heard Daididau it was instantly one of my favorites from the incredible Dimash. Later on I heard the lyrics and was so disappointed, cause I thought my beloved song was only about a failed marriage. Just one noting. At the beginning Dimash played on dombyra the kui (piece of specific Kazak music) of ADAI written by great (the greatest!!!) Kazak composer Kurmanghazy Saghyrbayev (19th century). And after that Dimash sang the song DAIDIDAU. The kui and the song are totally different and have no any links to each other. So please make difference !! Dimash just wanted to show the richness of Kazak music tradition and song tradition.

There are also some just a little bit wrong translations in lines. “jüziŋ bar on törtinşi ayday körkem” literally means = “your appearance (face) is as beautiful (wonderful) as moon on 14th night”. Hey thanks for the work! Just a small correction. It’s actually: “what am I to do if your promise was a lie” and not “To whom shall I divulge my sorrow? “ Magzhan has been lied to by the Russian soldiers that his wife left him. Upon his release from the prison several years later he found that his wife was still waiting for him. They reunited however it was not meant to be. He still wrote about Kazakhstan gaining independence and two years later he was arrested again, called an “enemy of the nation” and executed.
He sets each note like a precious stone in a crown.

Thank you so much Gloria for your efforts putting these together. In my opinion, Dimash connects best on sorrowful songs. He can definitely sing happy songs but I feel his voice conveys emotions fitted to these kinds of songs. So, even if he sings on foreign tongue, one can feel the grief , even without understanding the lyrics. That made him an artist.. Dimash has a long way ahead of his career, we all hope him the best.

As I listen to this young man before I even read translated lyrics, I am immediately hit with such passion and emotion that it feels as if the songs he sings, are made specifically about the stories of my life. The pain, the sorrow, the constant battle to keep moving forward. As I listen and cry like I have never cried before I can only imagine that if there is a God. Then Dimash is an angel sent to earth to give us a divine lesson, OR, he is Satan himself wooing our will to sin so he can destroy our salvation and take us to hell blinded by the beauty of his evil music!

Probably the saddest song I have ever heard made more poignant because it is true. Only Dimash could give it the heartfelt emotion as it is a story of his people. Very touching and sooo beautifully done. As always.
