Since the Bosman ruling (1996), clubs don't invest in Italian youth. Do the math: In 2018, a player born in 1996 was 22, along with 26/27 year olds who were around 4 in 1996. That's what a national team should be composed of. Italy has since failed to go to the WC by not beating Sweden and North Macedonia. The Euro? Great tournament. Greece did it in 2004, too. So before we start comparing players of today to legends of yesterday, let's look at the reality. Scamacca may be a late bloomer, but he's no Bobo Vieri.
