Tortorella completely lost his mind

In 2004, the Tampa Bay Lightning went through a tough battle with the Flyers in the Eastern Conference finals and wound up becoming Stanley Cup Champions after beating the Flames. They were lead by head coach John Tortorella in a year he won the Jack Adams. So Tonight, as the Philadelphia Flyers came into Tampa, it was a special one.
Not only did the Lightning celebrate the 20 year anniversary of that 2004 Stanley Cup Championship, with Torts in town, it was also a bit of a reunion. So with guys like Lecavalier, Boyle, Richards and Andreychuk in the building, it was only right that we got a classic, all timer from John Tortorella on the bench. After a terrible start to the Bolts, giving up an early goal, getting a few bad penalties including a 10 minute misconduct from Hathaway, he let the referee Wes McCauley hear it. Sure enough, the trigger happy McCauley then ejected him from the game just 10 minutes into the first period. Needless to say, he completely lost his mind. He refused to leave the bench and cussed like a sailor in the process. It was an instant classic. As for the game, it was one to forget for the Flyers but I cover it all in todays NHL video!

    • Not the biggest of Torts fan, but I absolutely hate Refs lack of accountability in this league. They can do what ever they please as if they are not human too and can't be biased or wrong. Anyone says one word to stand up for themselves and it's a fine. It's completely bogus and the worst part of this league. In this case, the ref should have had a game misconduct too but instead he gets to turtle behind the league. Torts was entertaining though and I got a good laugh out of it.

Wes McCauley took this way too far and personal and made it all about himself instead of being a professional and going over and atleast giving Torts the professional courtesy of speaking to him before he turned it all the way up to an ejection. Im not a fan of either team mind you so I dont have a dog in this fight. Wes has had a nice reel of highlights where he is funny to people but personally I think he's one of the worst in the entire league. • The way it works in a lot of younger and less serious leagues, if a coach or fan who is thrown out and refuses to leave, the clock will run and play will not resume until they leave. This is most effective when their team is down in the score, but that is the rule regardless of who is winning

  • As a Lightning fan, that 10 minute misconduct was way too much but a one sided penalty (provided we don't retaliate right there and then) Is definitely warranted. You don't get to be obnoxious then not pay a price for it, i'd expect that if it was one of our players doing the shoving.

    @Lolzicolz@Lolzicolz2 ай бұрын
    • You would expect it? Based on? That happens 5 times a game minimum and it's never called.

      @richardprescott5939@richardprescott59392 ай бұрын
    • You run 5 red lights and get pulled over for one of them, does that mean the other 4 were legal? Considering this happened entirely outside the confines of the puck being in play, any other argument than his goal to be entirely obnoxious and see if he could bait an over-retaliation seems bad faith. He knew the risks, and got unlucky for being called out in this instance. Should it be called more consistently? Perhaps that's true. Was it 10 MINUTES egregious? I don't think so. If unhappy with that outcome, nothing is stopping him and other players from not engaging in those type of antics, kind of like every other player minding their business on the ice at that time.@@richardprescott5939

  • Terrible officiating and Tampa seems to always benefit from it regardless of who they are playing against. They are a dirty team and their coach perpetuates it. At least Torts has integrity. Refs need to be held accountable for doing their job poorly and players, coaches, and GMs should be able to speak their minds about it, without being fined, etc.
