How to improve your roundhouse kick?
There are a few ways you can easily implement into your current training! My teacher, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, always remind us about the importance of lifting and pivoting the support leg while you are throwing you kick.
In today's video, I will be going over some of the tips on how to improve your power and speed! Please let me know what you think of it in the comment section below!

This was the best muy thai kick Break down I ever seen
Been doing muay Thai for a little while and I always like to refresh myself on kicks. I always feel insecure whenever I give pointers to newcomers. This video was a great explanation. I feel more confident helping new guys with their kicks.
6:32 the step does more than adjust the angle... you are accelerating your core body as a whole which just adds to the power generated by the rotation. It also makes the whole process slower and more telegraphed.
I love this video, so much details.
THANK YOU! Please support me by sharing this video! Much appreciated it!
@@KevinLeeVlog so the kick has a chamber. A little bend in the knee before impact?? I have a karate background so roundhouse always come to mind with me doing this kick....
@@lrwhiteley it's almost the same as a karate mawashi geri but at the difference is more noticeable at the end of the kick , karate/ taekwondo has more snapping kicks after impact or should i say the leg is snapped back ( retracted) but in muay thai just like you said there is a slight bent in the leg and the leg isn't fully extended ( just like when throwing a hook puch ( arm stays bent and stiff) any way , what style of karate have you trained in 🤔
came for the roundkick, got hooked on the thai pad tips. I HATE holding pads but this was great to see.
been kicking for years, and im always excited when i pick something new up. great job!
Well articulated and a skilled demonstration partner. Good job!
Those first two tips on pad safety… 🤯 THANK YOU KEVIN! SUBBED!
Most definitely. Holding pads wrong is detrimental to the kicker and the pad holder.
the best roundhouse kick tutorial I have ever watched! Thank you, Kevin!
Great lesson about kicking!!! Thanks Sifu 🇨🇾👊🏽🙏🏽🐺
Great video ❤ it but can you show with the leg line and turning hip rotation it'll be awesome ! Some of my guys in muay Thai show me the hip rotation I can't imagine it and can't make it it help me a lot .❤thanks
This is the best breakdown of roundhouse kick(and I have seen quite a few by big name coaches. While they are good, but they don't contain the level of details you give)! Thanks Kevin.
SOLID bro! That kicking form teaching is on point!!
Just started practicing muay thai a couple weeks ago, really looking forward to implementing these tips
Awesome video. Great breakdown of the roundhouse kick. Step by step detail was incredible.
Best video ive watched on how to throw the kick.
You are such a gem here on KZhead! Thank you so much! 🙏
Best explanation I have heard so far
Wow. The relaxing the knee when throwing the kick tip really helped me. I can totally feel the difference compared to the way I was trying to throw kicks before.
love your videos. I apply your teaching in my training every time. Thanks for making these.
This really is a great video! I learned so much from this, thanks for taking the time to share!!
What an awesome break down. Keep it up. Thank you for sharing ideas
First time stumbling across your channel. Subbed before the video finished, as it was honestly one of the best I have seen. And for someone on the brink of starting muay Thai, it was VERY helpful. Done Kickboxing for a long time and even those tips for pad holding were eye opening tbh. You never stop learning. If you have any tips for me coming from a Kickboxing background it'd be much appreciated! :)
Incredible as always. Thank you sir!
Wow awesome breakdown! I’ve been looking for a video like this, that explains every step
The amount of detail that I wish I knew when I first started. Wow.
Excellent tips for holding the pads. In addition to lift, pivot, project.
This video was really awesome, thank you! I've been swinging my kicks wide looking forward to practicing this technique today 😀
The most brilliant explanation ever. Thanks
Great job, you're providing a valuable service
Thank you for such great video
WOW! You made that so simple! Video of the year!❤
Really detailed! Thank you to you AND your partner! Those are powerful, relaxed kicks! Nice! :)
Incredible breakdown with so many useful detauls
Brilliant breakdown. These are details I often wondered about and I feel like I almost had it but this really helped me see the things I was doing incorrectly. I will definitely take these instructions into consideration to iron out my roundhouse kicks. Great video, as always 🙏
Great, great explanation. I learned a lot of new things and the explanation of the mechanics was excellent. Thank you.
The best and the most complete MT style roundhouse kick instruction I have seen on YT so far.
you the man kevin lee.
Very informative Kevin! Thank you!
You don’t see a lot of instructors going into complete detail In throwing the Mui Thai kick And when you do Other videos they seem to over complicate things Whit you nice simple and direct No bullshit therefore I’m giving the thumbs up on this video and I also be subscribing to your channel
Thank you! Much appreciate it!
Best video ever. Thank you so much
Pure gold this thanks
Good information, thank you for sharing.
Your are amazing coach!
Excellent detailed instructions
Wow this was great! Thank you!
Great approach to explanation 🙏🙏🙏
fantastic video keep up the great work
Nice and helpful video. . Thanks Kevin .
This helped me so much!!! Thank you bro😭😭😭
Best tutorial
Great video, thank you!
exactly. i noticed when i was doing this in my Muay Thai class it was almost as intense as being the one doing the kicking. you need to commit to the stance and the hold which is burning energy and a workout all in itself at least it felt that way to me.
Useful info, thank you.
Whoa! Truly excellent tips
Amazing 👏 thanks
👏🏼✅ informative video thanks!
Great instructional
Excellent video!
Very informative buddy👌
Master Class
Superb! I studied taekwando and found that the round house kick always slow to get around. It was extremely tiresome since my Sensei wanted high lifts. This kick will be surprisingly good for my delivery.
Great tutorial 👏🏼
Thanks Kevin, this is great. I would love to know how to get more height on my kicks, your breakdowns are great, do you have a video covering this?
Very nice work. Thx Brother 🙏
I originally learned the "kick over the chair" thai kick in the 90's. Then learned this version from Stephen Whittier, a Sityodtong Kru south of Boston. I much prefer this version.
Awesome video! Subscribed!

ui ui haha XD
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice
also Kevin if you kick with the lower part of you shin and lets say the opponent checks it, will it break? Lets also say that you kick it the right way and not the wrong way (going up). This has always been a curiosity of mine.
Nice lesson on strapping on and holding the pads. Also thanks for the tip on the step in, I will definitely use that. Question though, do you guys in JKD and Wing Chun do framing, parrying, and manipulation with your legs? In Muay Thai you'll see a lot of people, controlling their opponents after they knee/kick, framing, parrying with their 'check', and even throwing their leg out there just to initiate and obtain control. I was wondering if JKD and Wing Chun had some as well that maybe I could utilize effectively in training and fighting. I'm going to be honest, I was a little skeptical about clicking on a Muay Thai video from a seemingly WC JKD guy, but I'm glad I did. Thank you for your surprisingly very informative video. Keep it up guys. สู้ๆ
Thank you for taking your time to ask some questions! The short answer to your first question is yes! We do a lot of “Chi Gerg”, which means “Sticky Leg”, it is a great way to practice control and manipulation of your opponent. We also practice a lot of short kicks in WC, which a great technique for short, fast kick. In JKD, due to the variety, there are a lot more influence from Kali and silat. I have something lined up for the next video talking about “kicks” in different martial arts. Be sure to stay tuned! Side note: I totally get it. It seems like I am getting more seem as a WC/JKD guy. 😅. I have been practicing Muay Thai for about 16 years under Ajarn Chai Sirisute.
Yes! In traditional wing chun we use our foot or hand to stop the kick or elbow, entering in, using angled steps and a body rotation towards the attack, which not only allows us to see it, but also pulls us away from the attack. This takes away your ability to produce power (you NEED the full arc to produce power), and allows us to enter in easily and quickly, while controlling the arm or leg (or BOTH!), allowing us to break your structure, which will cause an opening we can exploit. You DON'T see this in crappy modified wing chun or second-rate JKD!!
very nice, well thought out. xie xie ni
👍👍👍👍👍
so is the lift pivot push with the lead leg? or is the plant foot the one you Iift and pivot?
I get pain in my hip socket and femur when I kick higher than hip height. The only way it doesn't hurt is when I twist my pivot foot completely behind me but then the kicking leg twists too much inwards too. Do you have any suggestions?
in this video it looks like he is hitting the top of his foot? If he is that can break some bones or hurt them?
A person can learn from your teaching style. is there a distance learning course for beginners.
Hello Kevin, I just started out doing MT this week. I find what you teach really good just that when I try to apply it I just can't keep to get to the 3 main pointers. Any good routine for me to keep training and repeating? I can't seem to lift my lead leg high without losing balance. And can't get the hip turn at last min.. And also I keep getting contacted in my upper feet which hurts. Any tips? Please help
I'm not Kevin but I can give some tips. I also had all of these problems when I first started and honestly the best way to improve is to just keep at it. I like spending time after lessons just kicking the heavy bag lightly and focusing on the technique. Lots of stretching as well. Find some stretches on youtube that focus on hip mobility and flexibility. My personal favorite is to have your partner hold your leg up at about hip height and then do the hip twisting motion that simulates a kick. Lots of patience is important, you won't regret it. The hip movement is one of the hardest things to really get good at, but practice is all it takes to improve.
switch kick tutorial pls
My issue is keeping my pivot /back leg straight as I kick. My kicking leg is good I just bend a lot at the knee on my back leg. Almost like I lack flexibility ? How do I fix this
Roundhouse kick for the algorithm
Amazing 👏 thank you bro 🙏 🙌 best tips ever. Now I can properly train my fiance. 🥰
Have a great time 🙏🏼😁

@@gun3662 she's kicking my butt 😢 I'm training a monster 🤣

Whats the most important part of martial arts training as begginer? Mastering the technique of basics, by repetitions?
Nice video but when steping out should have a flat foot then go up and rotate.
switch kick please
