  • I am amused that the Germans think that Americans actually observe their speed limits. When I drive the speed limit, many cars go by me so quickly that I can't even read their license plates to see where they're from. I'm happy to be able to go the speed limit or a little faster just to make time. The US is over 3,000 miles wide in places. You need to be able to keep moving if you're ever going to get across it (or any significant part of it).

Hier in Deutschland gibt viel weniger Unfälle.

    @davidepedergnana99@davidepedergnana994 жыл бұрын
    • Die deutschen "sind dafür bekannt"? Ja gut. Das ist natürlich ein Argument: Politik: "Möchten wir ein Tempolimit einführen" Dobrindt: "Ach nein. Das gehört zu uns." Leider sagte Dobrindt sinngemäß genau das und das ist traurig.

    • Die deutschen Autobahnen sind mittlerweile kaum noch geeignet für hohe Geschwindigkeiten. Die sind ja entworfen und gebaut worden in einer Zeit, als 100 km/h sehr schnell war und der Verkehr viel weniger intensiv. Deshalb auch die vielen Baustellen. Sie sollten mal eine Weile in Japan fahren gehen; Vmax auf der Autobahn 100 km/h, sehr diszipliniertes Fahrverhalten und die wenigsten Toten in der Welt.

  • End of another 'freedom'. Rules and laws will end us. There are bigger environmental issues than limiting how fast you can go on the autobahn. Besides having lived in Germany now for 2 years Germans are easily the best drivers in the world and safest. I can agree that driving slowly long distances can induce a 'sleepy' awareness as well. Honestly you're going to have accidents at any speed. So technically the system I dont think is broke...so why mess with it? Long live Germany!

    @shmac96@shmac964 жыл бұрын
    • shmac96 Your freedom is to drive a car, not what rules you will follow. Same goes for walking, you are free to go everywhere you want, but there are places that prohibid going there. If you want to drive how you want to, then as long as it is not state owned, (Like car racing tracks) you can.

      @lukaskusy6688@lukaskusy66884 жыл бұрын
    • @@lukaskusy6688 Driving as fast as you want is also a freedom. Germany will lose it's entire car manufacturing arguments if it would put a tempo limit. You would not need cars anymore that go faster than 130 km/h. Look at their neighboors in The Netherlands. They are all driving shitty cars because the distances are short and there is a tempo limit. No, thanks.

      @egelisk4943@egelisk49434 жыл бұрын
    • @@egelisk4943 No its not, your freedom ends where others begin and sadly for you, right to be healthy is higher than your right to drive fast. Also are you really implying that car speed would somehow affect car manufacturing? Really? That argument is so old, its boring. It will not as already Netherlands and Germany are one of the highest veteran cars owners in the world and that ban will only come now into effect. Also i have been already a few times in Netherlands and i must agree that i don't see many luxurious fast cars but rather high quality new big cars that look like they can withstand more than just a breeze (they are also safer, cooler looking, and don't eat your fuel in matter of seconds like old trucks did).

(Oh f"ing really did you really think i meant cars like hummer? ) I don't know but i have to go there every now and then because of work, and i know what i see. Also Its not freedom its what your state allow you to do with your freedom to drive, you don't own their roads but you own your car, they cant tell you to sell or take your license if you don't do anything wrong (so that is freedom), but they can set rules on the thing you are driving on, as they own it.

It was quite normal to do 300 miles (480 km) in a single day, and twice that was by no means unusual. You don't have to race around like a lunatic to cover long distances: just plan your route well in advance, take lots of breaks and allow plenty of time. It's easy. The idea that you have to do everything at a million miles per hour is just ridiculous.

In city areas average speed limit is 55-mph (88-km/hour). Fastest speed is in west Texas at 80-mph (128-km/hour). Montana had a speed of "Reasonable and Prudent", no definition on that. It was at the discretion of the police officer. Usually while the police officer is writing you a speeding ticket for driving too fast for conditions.

Jetzt in meiner Muttersprache: In California the speed limit is 65 mi per hour (oder 104,6 km); and in the more deserted areas in is only 5 miles an hour more (112.6 km). Das ist zu langsam. In Utah the speed limit is also 65 mi on the main freeways, and goes up to 80 or 85 in the more desolate areas. (128,7--136,8 km). Das ist viel besser! Almost no one in California adheres to the speed limit signs, but just pays attention to road conditions. On stretches in more desolate areas, both in California and Utah, I have found 80-85 miles to be a good speed. My comfort zone is usually around 83 miles per hour. After that, it is easier to not feel in as much control, even with the slightest changes in road conditions. So even though I don't live in Germany, I think if there is a speed limit imposed in open areas, that 135 km/hr would be a good number.

  • I used to live in Australia (NSW), where the speed limit is 110 on freeways. Driving 300 kms from Sydney to Canberra is boring as f*ck. I total agree with the gentleman regarding falling asleep because of speed limits as well as keeping distance to the car in front of you. However, it is the same in other European countries. The minute you cross the German-Netherlands border (where you can only go 130kmh) the traffic gets really condensed. Everybody goes 130, bumper to bumper. How does it help safety?

    @idemchenko-js@idemchenko-js4 жыл бұрын
  • Well, speed limits dependent on the weather and traffic conditions are perfectly okay, but why a general speed limit of 120 kmh when the runway is perfectly maintained, cars are in perfect condition due to TÜV and having drivers who experienced top notch driving training while at their driving school? Me, often driving from Munich to Berlin and vice versa at night don´t get the point. Even public transportation with the fastest train ICE takes me way more time. Travel time from station to station is at least 4 hours, so not more than 145 kmh average. It´s ridiculous. TGV speed (France) would take 2:30 hours for that distance. And yes, driving fast can be fun, but independence of train schedules, high costs for tickets booked shortly before departure and the convenience to start at home at get right to your destination are the main reasons why I prefer to use my car.
