  • The pricing on the vehicles is straight up insane, especially if you look at the costs of the parts separately. Most of these bikes (maybe besides electrom) should cost no more than 2-3 thousand dollars for them to be viable.

  • These are really, really cool. I would like one of those three or four wheeled cycles. The weather protection is something that no other bike has. Most bikes and trikes are fair weather friends. They are with you to help you get where you want to go as long as the sun is shining and the roads are not overly slick, but those are designed for all weather even hard packed snow. I want to be able to ride my trike in snow. We have lots of snow here in winter.

  • While very nice to watch this stuff cannot be considered an alternative to anything. With the prices reaching those of the regular cars this is just an extravaganza for rich people. My ebike for $800 already does it all.

    • You need to understand what makes them usefull for safe cargo driving. This is why Amazon is making millions with these quadricycles. You don't understand how much you can save from a normal car insurance, parking charges, penalties from mistakes on traffic lights. Plus other expenses owning a car. This is what is special about 4 wheel bikes. And you can have a large amount of folding solar panels to add a lot of mileage. Solar on the roof of your car won't help much. Ev consumption is very high. You have to understand the math to be able to count all the loses you have with a car. If you complain about the price for these bikes, you can build yours. I also built mine. Its 160kg. Very heavy. But is solid. And has 6 folding solar panels 100w each. My range is 190 miles a day with lithium iron phosphate 48v 75Ah which is charging with 600w max from solar panels renogy.

  • The Electrom's rear motor is gear-less direct drive not geared as you said at 9:02. The front 10:1 geared motor provides low speed torque then free wheels as the more efficient rear direct drive motor takes over and also provides for regeneration. I believe local company Grin Technology helped with the electronic design for operating two motor controllers in this complementary way which gets the best overall battery usage.

It has CO emissions, though, which is what I think you were trying to say about the e-Trike, that it has zero CO emissions. The low speeds of these vehicles might be okay for crowded city streets, which often have slow speeds because of heavy traffic. But what about small towns or the countryside?

  • The weatherproofed tall sides always look like weather vanes - side winds will surely be quite a problem. The enclosures obscure rider’s view. All of these are so heavy they sacrifice a lot of the mobility of a pedal power bicycle. And for what? The Electrom isn’t that aerodynamic compared with a true Velomobil and is really just an E-motorbike that has pedals to get past some legislative rules (the pedals can only generate 10kmh of speed). Unimpressed I’m afraid. A cargo ebike is better at shifting children or shopping and arguably is more versatile.

    @petergilbert72@petergilbert72 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for the feedback!

      @Electric-Rideables@Electric-Rideables Жыл бұрын
    • Hello Peter, I think you have a misconception of how the GCD on the Electrom works. It is true that the rider's direct connection to the rear wheel starts to freewheel at speeds over 10 km/h, but at that point, the rider's energy goes into a generator. This allows them to contribute energy to the system at all times, and skip the hassle of sifting through multiple bicycle gears. The GCD system also provides great exercise as the rider can pedal against resistance at all times. Regarding your comparison to a velemobile, we specifically chose to forgo some aerodynamic gains in order to make a vehicle that was easy to use, and easy to get on and off of. We also wanted a higher rider position for urban use. Velomobiles are nice on the open road, but not much good in urban traffic as they are too hard to get into and too low to be clearly visible in urban automobile traffic.

      @electrom_LEV@electrom_LEV Жыл бұрын
    • @@electrom_LEV thanks. A criticism of other bikes that use pedal generation are that they are not efficient converters if human effort into electricity compared with an e-bike that directs human effort to the rear wheel via gears. How efficient is the GCD in that regard please?

      @petergilbert72@petergilbert72 Жыл бұрын
    • @@petergilbert72 Hi Peter, our generator is 90% efficient, but that is not the point. We opted to focus less on generator efficiency and more on pedaling feel and exercise benefits. The question of generator efficiency becomes moot when one looks at the power output of a human, compared to the power produced by the e-bike motor. The average human can produce 100w continuously. Whereas most e-bike systems are drawing over 500W (regardless of the manufacturer's claims) Why obsess on efficiency in a part of the system that is contributing less than 20% of the energy used? Better to focus on the ride experience and exercise benefits.

      @electrom_LEV@electrom_LEV Жыл бұрын
    • @@electrom_LEV you seem to be confirming my analysis of this vehicle. The pedal aspect is of slight importance in relation to speed or range and is there essentially to provide (optional) exercise for the user and to take advantage of legislation relating to bicycles. Downside is the motor scooter is encumbered with unnecessary equipment that contributes only slightly to performance.

  • Etrike# I want a quadracycle that is cheep

    @user-pm9oy2oi1i@user-pm9oy2oi1i2 ай бұрын
    • Looking for an affordable quadracycle, especially when considering an electric option like an e-trike, is a great way to navigate with efficiency and environmental consciousness! Here are some tips to find a "cheep" or cost-effective quadracycle: 1. **Research and Compare:** Start by researching different brands and models to find ones that fit your budget and needs. Prices can vary widely based on features, battery life, and capacity. 2. **Consider Used Options:** Check out second-hand or refurbished models. Many people sell their quadracycles when upgrading to a newer model, and you can find these at a significantly lower price. Websites like eBay, Craigslist, or local classifieds are good places to start. 3. **Look for Deals and Discounts:** Keep an eye out for sales, especially during off-season periods or holiday sales, when many retailers offer discounts. Signing up for newsletters from manufacturers or dealers can alert you to upcoming deals. 4. **Simplify Your Needs:** While it's tempting to go for a model with all the latest features, focusing on what you truly need can help keep costs down. Basic models without extra bells and whistles are more affordable and often just as effective for getting around. 5. **Crowdfunding Platforms:** Some new companies might offer their initial batches of quadracycles at a discount through crowdfunding platforms as they try to enter the market. This can be a way to get a new quadracycle at a lower price, though it comes with the risk of delays or issues as with any crowdfunded product. 6. **Government Incentives:** Depending on where you live, there might be government incentives, rebates, or subsidies for buying electric vehicles, including electric bikes and quadracycles. These can significantly reduce the cost. 7. **Local Cycling Groups or Forums:** Joining local cycling groups or forums can provide leads on good deals and advice on choosing the right quadracycle. Members often share deals or sell their own equipment. Remember, the cheapest option may not always be the best in the long run. Consider the durability, warranty, and maintenance costs, which can affect the total cost of ownership. Happy hunting for your ideal quadracycle!

What you need for paddle powered trike or quad is a good fairing (such as rotovelo made in Australia) which is not that expensive. Fiberglass molding can be mass produced (it is in kayak industry) Then use quality components to make a comfortable ride. Manufacturing in USA has lagged behind in last 40 years. It’s same old nuts and bolts. Just this morning, I was watching unboxing of European velomobile, packaging is so secure, yet no staples, nails, sealing tape and junk material. • The major problem with these things is that they are compatible with neither bicycles nor road traffic. They are too big and fast for dedicated bike paths and too small and slow to mix safely with normal traffic. The best solution for urban mobility is the same it's always been. First walking, second bicycles limited to 30 kph, third public transit, primarily rail mounted electric trams in the now traffic free streets, and electric trolley buses with overhead wires, then underground electric urban and regional trains, all coupled with sufficient housing density to eliminate sprawling suburban car dependent neighbourhoods.

  • How do you stop people from stealing your electric bike? Lol

    @sylphienne@sylphienne2 ай бұрын
    • Great question! Electric bikes, especially those used for deliveries, can be quite an investment, so it's important to protect them. Here are a few tips to deter theft: 1. **Use High-Quality Locks:** Invest in top-notch locks, such as U-locks or heavy-duty chain locks. It's often recommended to use two different types of locks for added security. 2. **Lock It Properly:** Always lock your bike to a solid, immovable object, and make sure to lock the frame and wheels. If you're using a chain lock, try to keep it off the ground to make it harder to cut. 3. **Smart Locks and Alarms:** Consider using smart locks that alert you on your phone if someone tampers with your bike. Some electric bikes come with built-in alarms or GPS trackers, which can be incredibly helpful. 4. **Secure Parking:** Whenever possible, park in well-lit, high-traffic areas. Some cities have designated secure bike parking areas, which are worth using if available. 5. **Remove Easy-to-Steal Parts:** If your bike has easily removable parts, take them with you or lock them up as well. 6. **Insurance:** Look into getting insurance for your electric bike. It can provide peace of mind and financial protection in case of theft. And a little extra tip: customizing your bike with unique markings or accessories can make it more identifiable and less attractive to thieves who prefer more "anonymous" bikes that are easier to sell. Stay safe and happy cycling! 😄🚴‍♂️
