I was working for Wilson as a production engineer and actually built these clubs. We made 5 of them at our plant in Tullahoma, Tn. I sent 4 to the headquarters in Chicago where John picked out one to play. I STILL HAVE THE ONE I KEPT. NO IT IS NOT FOR SALE. It is a very playable club and I have hit it a few times. It is now put away and is a great story for me.
How much

You are your last name! ;p
Caddie had the best swing by far!
for real it was so nice
When your caddy is better than all of you 😂
most likely. they spent more time on golf course than average golfer so it's no surprise.
A lot of people caddy so they can play golf for free. And nobody wants a caddy who doesn’t know the game inside out. A lot of caddies are as good as the club professional.
Usually the case
Unsurprising really
Must be tough watching people with shit swings all day long.
Caddy absolutely striped that ball
Oh ya, that was a nice swing
He’s got a nicer swing than most of the golfers he caddies for I dare say 😂
I once played 9 holes with a guy who only had 3 clubs. He had a zero iron, 9 iron, and a putter. I was a 10 handicap at the time and long story short he beat me by 3 strokes. It was a crazy day to say the least.

My brother in law played on the Nike for a few tourneys before joining the Marines (and played for the Marines) and he carried a custom Merit 1 iron. That thing was like hitting a boulder with a hockey stick. He could shape it out to about 260. It was madness.
Cool story bro

Long irons especially off the tee are severely underrated. I love my 2 iron off the tee which I get about 220 to 245 yards. I am sad to say not really much far behind my playing partners using their drivers.
Love it Boyz ! Keep going in this direction, love the changes
Learning to play golf in the late 60s then high school golf late 70s one irons were quite common, I carried one for years my dad called it the stroke saver, for when you driver went bad. In highschool and college it was always in my bag. My favorite club was my ping 2 wood. When lynx made the black cat the one got replaced with a 2 iron.
I carry a 2 iron...but it looks nothing like that 😂. I remember trying to hit a Cobra 1 iron back in the day. It was the smallest head I had ever seen. I tried hitting it a couple times...the vibration was unreal...it stung like crazy.
I was at TPC Avenel for the Kemper Open and followed JD all day when he debuted the Zero
I actually purchased a 0 iron in Japan in the early 90's it was made by an unknown (to us in the west) Japanese company. but it was little advantage to the 1 iron I carried
That bunker shot! With a zero iron!!!
Never sleep on the caddie, odds are they're the best stick in the group.
The caddie even mimicked john Daly’s swing 👏😳
I need one of those, I LOVE long irons.
25-30 years ago I carried a 1 iron for specific courses that were more narrow. At that time my driver club head speed was 128, so one iron off the tee was not as difficult as for others. I could get it out there about 250 and straight. I couldn't hit it off the deck for anything.
He used this, along with his driver, to make the 630 yard par 5 17th at Baltustrol in 2.
not quite - the Staff RM irons only came out in 1995, and the 0 was developed from there. He was still hitting a 1-iron (Wilson Staff Ultra 45) back in '93
@@euan1234 According to a Golf Digest article I have from back in 05’ (when they were covering the upcoming PGA Championship), he used a 0 iron. The writer even said “(yes, a 0 iron)”. Whether that information was correct or not, I cannot say, but I can certainly say that’s what was written in the article. It’s the only reason I’d ever even heard of a 0 iron.
@@thetowndrunk988 - yes, for sure. I also saw something saying it was a 0-iron as well, when I was double-checking. But I'm pretty sure I'm good with saying it was a 1, as the actual irons from the 1993 tournament was auctioned a few years back. I tried to link it but I don't think youtube allowed it. Entire set of irons sold for only $500 at the time, but more importantly it was a 1-iron in the set. I think the 0 came out in 1995, after he had won the Open at St Andrews. We are discussing such a small detail, but it was just because I was a huge fan of Daly around this period, and I remember the notoriety of the 0-iron (I am left-handed so it was unavailable to me!)
I had a Lynx Parallax 1 iron once and it was hard as hell to hit. When you connected though, no other club felt better.
Still have mine-1 thru pw
When lynx came out with the black cats my 1 iron got replaced with the 2 black cat
I still carry and play my tommy driving iron. I tee off with either that or my 2i. I don’t carry any woods. haven’t replaced my dci’s because no one make long irons anymore
What was that app you were using? It looked like a very informative and well thought out app
My 1 iron was 11° and 40". Back in my youth, it was my 305 shot. Nowadays, my driver is my 305 shot.
I was playing a money game with daly at MSU two weeks prior to him winning the PGA Championship.................... an example of his length: on a 239 par 3 he hit a 5 iron ( I would hit 1 iron or 3 wood depending on conditions, and on most drives he was 60 yards ahead of me :( Thats with balata balls and lofts nowhere near what are on irons today.
He was a beast back then. I watched him play on what was then the Ben Hogan Tour the season prior. Wish he would have taken his health and fitness half way serious through the rest of his career
I have an adjustable I can set to 0 degree needless to say it impossible to get off the ground but you can get like 100 yards carry due to the spin and if you hit it well
I used a lot of time a mizuno mp 33 2 iron, i used that iron when the day is windy, and is a great iron
A 2 iron sat in my bag for a long time when I was younger. Would be a preferred club when trying to reach longer par 5s in two.
Second dude up had a beautiful swing. Balance was on point, just came out of it a bit.
In 1998 my T-Zoid pro mizuno 1 iron was 15degrees, almost no spin (except side spin 😆) but into a strong wind it would go about 2/3 in the air 1/3 along the ground and down wind it was 50/50 so al long as you knew where the line to land the ball was , it was good of the tee , but compared to my 17 deg PXG 0311 hybrid i use now for the same stuff all these years later , mehh .
What app do you use to get the yardages and other stats?
Got a Mizuno #1 driving iron. It's got 14° loft, and looks like a weird hybrid. Hardest club to hit in my collection. Definitely a stinger club.
Video idea. 5/7 wood vs 3/4 hybrid comparison. I’m torn and like to hear your thoughts!
Interesting ….
@@Golficity I think it’s a hot topic for those of us that, let’s just say, are happy to break 100 but are going for that 90 barrier.
It was fairly well known that JD didn’t like fairway woods but did like long irons. Also, this was before hybrids were in existence.
pretty sure a 7 wood lines up with more of a 6i/5i distance. a 3hy would carry 60 yards more.
@@snowboardfamilyof4 my 5 iron is 24 degrees so I’d say a 7 iron is closer to my 4 iron
That caddy’s swing is so smooth
As a Jr golfer my favorite club was a 3 iron. Could get distance with accuracy, hit from the tees with that club so often. So I feel it
I would unironically love to have this club. My first set of irons were Wilson blades 1 iron to sand wedge lol, moves on to Titleist blades. I still have a 14° driving iron but I would absolutely kill for a lower lofted iron like this. They simply do not make them anymore. It's either a hybrid or a thicker driving iron which sucks because I love hitting longer irons.
14 degree is cool, normal 1 iron loft was 16 degrees back then.
Club performed a lot better than I thought it would
My body hurt’s watching these guys swing 😅
That caddy’s swing I pure asf sheesh
I never had a zero iron. But back in the day I used a one iron off the tee. I could hit it as far as the driver and much more accurately.
Your driver must have sucked then
It’s also a great club for keeping the ball below the tree line. Makes a difference.
I have a 2 iron blade. It's great for punch outs
I used to use a DI (driving iron) cant remember who made it but it had a chunky base and was, for me, easier to control than a driver.
caddy swung so much cleaner than anybody else. thing of beauty
I have a Jack Nicholas 2 iron. I am terrified not to hit it pure 😂 At 62 with arthritis it pains me to do otherwise.A good hit for me is around 200+ yards
I have an Aussie Lynson 2 iron. When you find the sweet spot😮💨, eventually, it is so fine. Much better than some of my 3 irons.
I need that in my life immidiately
First swing caddie looks like it caught it nice.
Back in this time I was playing HS golf with 845s and nuking 8 irons over the green from the center of the fairway. Not the best era for clubs but the long irons went a mile.
Man that caddie had a swing on him!
As long as your hands are leading the clubhead through impact and your bottoming out in front of the ball, it doesn’t matter what club you’re using. You’ll have consistency in your strikes. Problem is most people suck at golf.
The fact that no one hit a stinger with this makes me physically ill
I just bought a Silver Scott 845 0 Iron (14*) but haven't hit it yet but I'm not worried as I can hit old school blade a 1 irons (16*) no problem. Now I have to find this Wilson and buy it to try out but man 12* will be tough. I love collecting these weird clubs. Also just snagged a Mizuno 13* driving iron but havent received it yet. Lets GOOOOO!
845 0 iron. Great score 👍
Omg. None of those guys can actually play golf. And then comes the caddy and hits it like a pro! Great job mr caddy!!!
Damn I where was that when I used to play golf?! I would always tee off with a 5 iron and do pretty good with it. I hate drivers
This is cool, I've amassed a good collection of 1 irons, found a 10 iron, I need to find one of these
I have a 10 but not a 0 😭
I have an old 11 iron and I love it
10 iron is usually curtsies for pitching wedge.
10 irons are confusing macgregor called their pw 10 irons but then you also get the 10 degree irons
@@chubeviewer I used to have a putter that was labeled 10
Ahh I’ve got that Midsize golden RM 3 iron and my god that looks good
You all should take me golfing. I promise you'll laugh harder than ever before. Seriously, it's that bad. My handicap is just a picture of a wheelchair at this point.
I carry a -2 iron (negative 2 iron) and I hit everything right into the damn ground just like you're supposed to. So when it happens I know exactly why and don't stand there like a jackass afterwards looking dumbfounded. Takes out all the guess work. I only pull it out when I'm playing bad, which is pretty much every other hole or more.
What app did you use to tracer the ball with distance and information on it ?
Ya I used to have a “Driving Iron “ also. But it was before John Daily
I used to always have a 1iron for every set of irons that I used, but a 0 iron ?
Awesome video, new subscriber
it's called a "driving" iron for a reason obviously, but most golfers don't need it for accuracy, rather due to the fact that average players (Daly included) couldn't turn a driver over right-to-left not only from a lack of loft but also the pulling motion they use to keep the face open at impact to get the driver off the ground. 12 degrees is more than enough. Micah Morris made a video with Kyle Berkshire on this very subject
I’m amazed every time I rip a 3 iron.
I just know that caddie had a looonnngggg day with that group lol
Flop Shot Challenge with the zero iron would be awesome!
Let’s go!
@@Golficity I'm ready to go😎
It doesn’t hurt that that fairway looks better than the greens at most of the courses I play.
I'm a long iron hitter and would absolutely love to hit this one time. John Daly was one of my favorite golfers back in the day!!
I use a 2 iron on the tee box. I usually hit it 220 yards.
No you don’t.
On one of the few occasions Daly visited my country, I took the opportunity to watch him play; I really wanted to see him rip his driver. But he'd just started his 'play irons-only' period, so that's what he did, I was very disappointed. He was paired with Norman and Woosnam, and was only just behind their drives with this zero iron.
I gotta get me one of these
Love your freckles!!!!
The caddy's swing with that camera angle looked like it was ripped straight from the old PGA Tour video games
Caddy killed it, love it
He had a great swing!
I hit a 2 iron off the tee occasionally. I occasionally hit it poorly
Guy in the white coveralls has a beauty swing
As someone that can’t hit a wood or hybrid shot to save my life, something like this or a 1-2 iron would be a great addition to my bag
I doubt it.
Great video
whats the app you use for the carry etc??
As a lefty that plays right, I have never had a problem hitting any long iron. I just can't putt for shit.
I just came from 18 holes and watched this! I would LOVE to try that club!
Did you sell that iron yet? I’d be interested. Currently playing a 14 degree iron, I want something more aggressive.
What app is that for tracking your swing and shot?
This video should be called “watch golfers with terrible swings hit a 0 iron”
For whatever reason as a kid learning the game with my father I naturally hit irons sky high and was/am a good iron player never liked the way fairway wood felt looked something in my head couldn’t get past a driver looking head that you can’t tee up so instead of 3-5 woods I’ve always had well I call it a driving iron, a 2 iron 3 iron so fourth
I hit driver off the deck probably on average 3 times a round. Especially on par 5s. How is this a problem? I’m usually worse off the tee than I am from the fairway with it. Sometimes when I am properly struggling off the tee, I hit driver from the tee box without a tee. I’m not even that good. Only 6 handicap. I’m sure if you got actual golfers to play it, they’d do ok. I’d probably love one. The lower centre of the club than driver would make it easier to hit than driver from the fairway I think. Although could be wrong. Got a mate with a blade 2 iron and that thing is rough in my hands and he crushes it. It is like a butter knife.
Can you imagine an iron with a driver loft? Yeah it's called a driving iron!!
Yes but usually they have rather a iron-2 type loft. Not 12°…
Yup and driving irons have often got 18 to 20 degrees loft, not 12
What app is used for tracker?
What’s that app called tho?
I WANT ONE!
I would so love a crack at that iron. I used to play a Titleist 690mb blade 2 iron.
What was the loft?
@@shayorshayorshayor 19* bent stronger to 17* in an X100 shaft. I could flat out rip it and the sweet spot was about the size of a dime. That zero iron is perimeter weighted and he said the shaft was softer plus its graphite. I know I could nut that iron after a bit of practice with it.
I spank my 15 degree 2 iron better than almost any club in my bag. Id love to crank this thing!
mikey divots gonna have to put that in the bag and see how the turf interacts. that man creates divots rolling out of bed!

I have a 2 iron in my bag!
How can I buy one of these clubs?
I worked at Wilson when these were designed, I actually was the lead engineer on this project. I still have one of them. Had to teach daly how to use it, I was crushing 400 yards all day long. He could never come close but we agreed to keep it a secret in exchange for $500k a year. I actually have a buddy who used a -1 iron back in the day. 500 yards easily. Would typically just play 2 holes as one, ignoring the hole of the first green. Actually got a hole in one at 600 yards, shot completely over the 6th hole and dunked it at the 7th once. Had a little breeze helping.
You had me in the first half not gonna lie
