Andy "Rebirth" Pellerano is a former soldier for the Almighty Latin King Nation, or Latin Kings, one of the largest and most dangerous prison and street gangs in the United States.
Business Insider talks to Pellerano about how members are initiated, what the gang's codes are, and how he got the green light to leave the organization. He covers the rivalry with the Crips and The Folk Nation, and the "Bloodline" allegiance with the Bloods in the prison system. Pellerano was based in New Orleans, where the gang spread to from their home base in Chicago. He discusses how the Latin Kings ran a drug-trafficking network, and other types of crime such as robbery and extortion.
Today, Pellerano is an evangelical minister and musician. He uses hip-hop and rap to give his testimony to young men and to redeem other former members of the Latin Kings.

  • Almost 10 years of my life I was a king. In my neighborhood you were either Latin king, blood or DDP. There was a couple trinitario sets, but we all beefed with them after they killed one of my close friends at just 16 years old. My family were kings so it was just a normal thing to us growing up. It wasn’t always violence, wasn’t always war, but when it was bad it was really bad. Alot of the times we were just a family keeping each other safe, uplifting each other and trying to find ways to make legal money rather then just on the streets. But eventually all that changed. I learned a lot that shaped me into the person I am today. Eventually it just got to the point where it wasn’t all about being a family anymore and it was constant beef with other blocks. Everyone was losing people left and right. Some of us just grew out of it and moved away to better ourselves. The homies that didn’t are sadly not here anymore.. I got stars all over and the set tatted on me. Also was an idiot and tatted under my eye so im stuck with that mark for ever. Reminds me everyday to keep my kids on the right track and go hard for this legal money so they never have to end up in that environment ever again.

I don't have any gang experience, but I've hustled a living, spent a couple years living outside...seen some things...learned some things....have some choices I'd love to unmake. *Your consideration for your children is inspiring.* I can't speak from any experience with a facial tattoo, so I hope this isn't out of line: *WHATEVER ELSE THEY DO, WHATEVER ELSE THEY SAY, WHATEVER ELSE EVEN THAT OTHERS MAY THINK OF THEM...OUR SCARS DEFINE US...THEY TELL US, AND THE WORLD WHO WE ARE* (note definitions are *DESCRIPTIVE* and not *PRESCRIPTIVE* ...they don't need to play any role in who you become, only inform who you are. *(At least, I need to believe that. Hopefully I'm not coming across as some sketchy rando...)* Live well, Laugh readily, Love. Unconditionally. AND TELL JOKES!!

I also grew up seeing the nietas, DDP, Trinitarios, bloods and some crips and other smaller street gangs. THANKFULLY, THANKFULLY I never got involved and NEVER had any interest in the gang life. I'm so grateful to the powers that be that kept me away from that stuff because I've seen too many of my peers fall into the lures and trappings of gang life and 95% of them never ended up anywhere good.

However, he has committed himself to living a better life, and I have nothing but respect for him. He owns up to his mistakes and is interested in doing right by his community. Good man.

  • Apple Pie Ingredients (for 8 servings) PIE DOUGH 2 ½ cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 ½ sticks butter, 1 1/2 sticks, cold, cubed 8 tablespoons ice water, or as needed FILLING 2 ½ lb granny smith apple, cored, sliced, peeled ¾ cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour ½ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ½ lemon 1 egg, beaten 1 tablespoon sugar TOPPING 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream Preparation 1. In a medium-sized bowl, add the flour and salt. Mix with fork until combined. 2. Add in cubed butter and break up into flour with a fork. Mixture will still have lumps about the size of small peas. 3. Gradually add the ice water and continue to mix until the dough starts to come together. You may not need all of the water, but if the dough is too dry then add more. The dough should not be very tacky or sticky. 4. Work the dough together with your hands and turn out onto a surface. Work into a ball and cover with cling wrap. Refrigerate. 5. Peel the apples, then core and slice. 6. In a bowl, add the sliced apples, sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and juice from the lemon. 7. Mix until combined and all apples are coated. Refrigerate. 8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (200°C). 9. On a floured surface, cut the pie dough in half and roll out both halves until round and about ⅛-inch (3 mm) thick. 10. Roll the dough around the rolling pin and unroll onto a pie dish making sure the dough reaches all edges. Trim extra if necessary. 11. Pour in apple filling mixture and pat down. 12. Roll the other half of the dough on top. 13. Trim the extra dough from the edges and pinch the edges to create a crimp. Make sure edges are sealed together. 14. Brush the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the sugar. 15. Cut four slits in the top of the pie to create a vent. 16. Bake pie for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and no greyish or undercooked pastry remains. 17. Allow to cool completely before slicing. 18. Top with ice cream and serve. 19. Enjoy.

As in latin kings believe they are in a brotherhood organization.. same in prison southern cali hispanic gangs segregate themselves from black people in prison

Life is all about lessons, from being young and making mistakes to being older and making selfish decisions with consequences, we are all blessed to be able to learn from our past. Salute to him for speaking his truth and experience.

    @naswiipp@naswiipp2 ай бұрын
    • Nope…yes they started in Chicago but in 1964 on Leavitt and Schiller May 15. Its Founder was King Phil a Puerto Rican. It was composed of different Ethnic groups. We had Mexican,Polish ,Italian,Black and a German and Japanese Member. We were a mixed breed. All the Founders of the first set are now 75 and over. The First Latin Queen was Polish. Queen Laura organized the first set in early 1966. The Kings originated in a area called Wicker Park not Humboldt Park. Some of the Originals are still alive and Active. OurCode was…. “ONCE A KING ALWAYS A KING”! Apparently Mr. Louisiana was a Fraud!
