How good was Arjen Robben actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most controversial and naturally talented players we've seen over the 2000's in football. In this episode we take on Arjen Robben who played for Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for most of his career.

  • As a Bayern Munich fan i can tell you that Robben is really loved in Bavaria. Everone here saying hes one of the biggest club legends. The "fans" booing him vs the Netherlands friendly after his missed penatly vs Chelsea were just a small group of idiots. The big big majority knows that Robben was one of the reasons why we had this amazing era. The only thing even i disliked about him was his diving from time to time. He really didnt need that because of his class. His selfish style / not working back was a problem at first but over the years he really started working for the team more. And individually he was just insane. If it wasnt for his injuries im 100% people wouldve talked about Ronaldo, Messi AND Robben. Also insane to always fight back form injuries and actually coming back even stronger .. Robben just loved football and you could always feel that. His amazing goals aswell as his likeable character off the pitch will always be remembered in Bavaria, it would be nice to see him work in the club, he always gave you the feeling to also be a really smart guy who could make it as manager etc.

Many of my colleagues from my childhood days would say they prefer Messi dribbling, Ronaldinho dribbling, and so many others but me my options a and b were still the same Robbin style of dribbling, he would take the ball at the edge of his side toes on the most magical left foot and always make my day. My God, this legendary player made me loved and still love the German Bundesliga, even though I'm a Chelsea fan but still got a heart for Bayern Munich because of Robben. • I remember how incredibly happy I was when Bayern München finally removed the rumors around Ricardo Quaresma coming to Bayern and purchased Arjen Robben from Real Madrid. Ribery, at that time, was the only creative world class player we had that could with one action decide the game. That was enough in the Bundesliga...but not in the champions league. You could immidiately tell...the first game Robben/Ribery played that not only Bundesliga teams would have to now deal with two world class wingers...each with completely different strengths and weaknesses. But still, the most important transfer was Javi Martinez...and moving Lahm behind Robben. Martinez immidiately closed the incredible holes left by having two highly offensive wingers... Lahm gave Robben the security he needed to play risky...knowing he can loose the ball and Lahm will be right there winning it back. In today's football I personally believe a classic defensive 6 is the most important position... tactically. Unfortunately there are thousands of central midfielders that are offensive all-rounders (box to box )...but find me a Dieter Eilts, Marcel Desailly, Javi Martinez, Nicola Berti, Jens Jeremies, Casemiro, Gattuso....a central midfielder that foremost does defending...reading the enemies team and it's offensive play, that tackles...steals the ball and immidiately sends a counter pass upfront, that man marks the enemy teams creative central midfielders, that has tactical intelligence and knows when to aggressively tackle everything that comes near his half....

Only van der Vaart couldn't be sold in time, partly because his wife had cancer. At the time I was secretly hoping Sneijder would get angry, and Real could make a nagotiation deal with Bayern, switching Ribery (who wanted to go to Real Madrid at the time) for Huntelaar, Sneijder, van der Vaart and Robben, who are all Dutch. On top of that Bayern had a Dutch coach and the world cup came right after and The Netherlands as well as Spain where the favorits (and also ended up in the final).

Let's not be ridiculous.

Then suddenly they sold them all while buying Ronaldo, Kaka, name them. I think that the Dutch would have become the champion of the world if they all went to Bayern and where used to play together. Especially with Louis van Gaal beïng the trainer from Bayern Munchen. At the same time Real wanted Ribery and visa versa, but couldn't afford them. I think Real Madrid could have made a beautiful deal selling all their Dutch players for Ribery, but they sold them all apart. Don't forget, Ronaldo came to Real Madrid to win the Champions League, Sneijder, Robben, name them left Real Madrid to win the Champions League and succeed before he did.

  • Arjen Robben is a Legend, I remember Sir Alex Ferguson telling Jupp Heynckes that Robben single handily won them the champions League in 2013 after Hynckes failed nominating him for Balon d'or...Even most Dutch players then, Van dervat, Van persie told him to leave Bayern because of the insult...Remember how he cried when saluting the fans ater scoring the goal against Dortmund in the finals

  • I love this guy he was so predictable in terms of cutting in on his left foot but unstoppable. You know what he will do but you can't prevent it that is what I call genius 🎊

    • @@ottomanpapyrus9365 He also did that sometimes. If the defender really went all in to defend his predictable left cut .... he would simply do a right cut first and had even more room te execute his final shot. There is a reason he was considered unstoppable.... And it was not because every defender who ever tried to stop him was an idiot. Truth is they all knew what he was going to do but even the best defenders in the world (literally) never found a way to trully stop his signature move.

  • I became a fan of him at the 2010 WC finals, which at extra time, He ran everything He could for scoring the so needed goal. Then I watched him at the UCL finals im 2013 and became a Bayern fan there. My childhood at football was marked by Him so much.

  • with such a back story still at his last 7 matches for FC Groningen ... if it was possible to go to a match on a ordinairy bike he would. He was after al the glamour still just a human. if you would meet him right now you would not even say he was a well known person, but your casual neigbour! If you want to have a chat with him when u see him walk by, he will almost for sure give u the chat u wanted ! As a 15 years old kid wandering around close to the former training fields of FC Groningen (during summer break or something) robben was there with some back then (now former) FC Groningen players just training. (one of them was also Virgil van Dijk) I asked if i could join them to kick some balls and train with them as i was a big football fan. Robben did not even needed to think he said get on the pitch! The story you told is great! but there is so much more what robben makes robben!

  • Robben had a pretty similar experience like bale. Both are an explosive winger but too bad injuries keep holding they back. Its a shame robben only got to hit his peak just for a short amount of time but everytime he got the chance, he totally demolished his opponents.
