Impossible Piano Physics Simulation - In the Hall of the Mountain King | Black MIDI

I built a simulation in Unity to visualize black MIDI files with physics! Every note note is a rigidbody which magnetically locks into position, presses a key, and spawns a glowing orb. This project pushed my abilities (and my PC) to the limit. The first portion was recorded with raytracing, so be sure to view in 4k resolution.
Fun facts:
- Thirty two gigs of RAM was not enough to hold the required game objects in the scene, so I upgraded to 64 just to make this video.
- Each frame was taking so long to load it was causing my GPU drivers to time out and crash. I had to edit a registry value called TdrDelay to resolve this.
- The final image sequence recording was over 100GB. Good luck youtube compression haha.
- My computer was rendering nonstop for over a week to capture the ray traced portion before the crash.

I believe this MIDI file was created by a user named @Sir Spork. Unfortunately, it seems they have deleted their KZhead channel, and I can't find a link to properly credit them. If anyone has a link to Sir Spork's social media, please send it my way so I can give the credit they deserve for this amazing MIDI arrangement.
EDIT: I think this is the new channel: / @tobach_
Huge shoutout to my friend Colin for building the Patron plinko at the end of the video. Here is a link to his channel: / @colinfritz

But then, I got exciting after seeing next. Then at 3:00 when I saw too much of a movement and that huge cloud of notes I was like *"NO-O-O-O!!!"* as if it was going to break through the screen XD And then the end... when I literally couldn't see piano but only balls flying at my face🤣 *LEGENDARY!*

  • It's such a shame, because I've had this video sitting in my watch later playlist for a really long time, since it seemed like it was going to be boring in my personal opinion - I even almost clicked away like 35 seconds in because I thought it was basically just going to be like the various sheet music visualizations except with 3D and balls after the key is pressed. But the dramatic build, the utter chaos, and the genuinely beautiful physics interactions really made this a spectacular video, not to mention the personal stylistic flair you added throughout the video. It was a great experience and my I hope more people give it a watch!

  • In the aftermath we see a computer's charred remains, the smell of smoke, and an image on the screen that can only be described as "a clown vomited on a piano".

    • Rush E is the exact opposite, instead its “a piano vomiting E’s on the floor”

  • Okay. Let's seriously break this down... Let's look at the video where just about every key is getting played within a few seconds. How many pianists would it take to actually play that. Simple math is telling me your standard piano player has 10 fingers and there's 88 keys on a standard keyboard. Thereby you would need 9 pianists to recreate what was happening at the craziest moment on that keyboard and there's a good chance any one of their parts would sound horrible without the other eight parts.

    • One pianist may have only 10 fingers, but they have 2 arms which can press more than 10 keys at the same time..
