    • What don't you agree with him on Ukraine war? We should all agree at this point that the US is using Ukraine in a proxy war with Russia. Ukraine war wouldn't start if Zelinsky was not "selected" in 2019 following the overthrow in 2014 by the US of a democratically elected president

      @lahacohenin2312@lahacohenin23128 ай бұрын
    • Quite disturbed by his answer actually. He wants to make it clear that he supports Ukraine with Starlink against the war, but when they call him to active it in an area that is needed to stop the war, they are now puzzled as to what Ukraine will use it for, but they weren't puzzled, they just wanted to avoid another pearl harbor for the sake of it turning into a nuclear war. So it was a tough decision for him to make because of the fear of a nuclear war, but when he says "Well, what are you guys going to use it for", that's quite ignorant at the highest, and quite disturbing when people laugh along with it. If the fear of a nuclear war was the factor, but he would agree to it if it came from Biden, then obviously the communication between Musk, Biden and Ukraine wasn't that firmly established, and so you can ask why didn't Musk then get in touch with Biden, why do he point this out now later? You see, Musk had an answer to the problem, just talk to Biden first and I grant the Starlink, but obviously this didn't happen at the time. You see the mistake he did. It's just now later when this thing surfaced that he gives people the solution.

Listen at 09:00. Elon Musk also said that "No such request came through", which seems he didn't adress Biden on the issue. How would Biden know if Musk didn't tell him about it. Musk doesn't have any obligations to this war, the whole idea about this thing is that he just handled it very bad, which is to no surprise because Musk is not an expertise on war, but he still have to face the shit storm that comes along with it. Ukraine shouldn't talk to Musk, but to Biden, and that's it.

    • 25:46 Elon Musk states that linking to external blogs will be deranked by their algorithm relative to posting the blogs directly on Twitter. This is a direct attack on Substack. This is monopolistic and he tries to justify it by saying they are optimizing for user minutes spent on the platform as a proxy for user satisfaction aka “unregretted user time.” But the problem is that what this creates as is the case on KZhead (which also ranks by how much time a user spends on a video) is excessively long content, which is the antithesis of user satisfaction. I have wasted far too much time on KZhead relative to the information gleaned which could have been fed to me much more succinctly. The implications are that it opens the door for a platform to compete which actually prioritizes user satisfaction and not some dumb, monopolistic proxy.

    • @@nikolai1714 upvoted, because it’s a perspective I’ve also contemplated and worthy of a point of discussion. Oxygen masks or shooting themselves in the feet? The perhaps not insignificant risk is that changing Twitter from a platform where people could announce their press releases, discuss external articles and such, to one where everyone is pushed to read only what is duplicated on Tweetle-dee-tweetle-dum-dum in long-form, drastically curtails the diversity-of-engagement, degrees-of-freedom/reach, fan-out/in and network effects of Twiddler. There could be a short-term lift as there’s a race to avail of the ranking boost by posting more long-term content, but as users become less satisfied overall by being lured into content that is longer than it needs to be just for ranking purposes, the entire original meaning of a tweet and the entire raison d'être of Twitter destroyed and overrun by long-form blogging and videos. It was the dumbest move ever to rebrand Twitter as X in one fell swoop. And this new ranking debacle appears to be yet another confirmation that Twitter is Elon’s Waterloo.

      @Emurphy212@Emurphy2128 ай бұрын
    • The internet as we know it started around 1992, and pieces of it existed already in the 60's. But yeah, it was free all around, in both sense of the world. Politically it was mostly anarchy, and economically straight communism. It worked because it was populated by geeks with high IQ, even the "lower classes" were university students mostly in STEM fields. The problems started when corporations and less intelligent people took over. The first meant paywalls and shitty services. The second meant trolls and hateful people, plus political radicalization, which made moderation necessary. Moderation is not a bad thing as long as it's small and local, because if you disagree you can just leave. It became a problem only a few years ago when social media turned the millions of small chatrooms into a few giant ones, giving corporations far too much power. And it's not just censorship, but the deliberate amplification of extremist views to create outrage, which drives engagement, which generates ad revenue. And that's was what made censorship acceptable for most people. That part wasn't deliberate. Corporations generally don't benefit from political censorship, because taking sides in divisive issues automatically cuts their customer base in half. But once the framework was in place, it was inevitably misused by people who have other agendas than the success of the company.
