Violence among Greek soccer fans is leading to more and more matches without audiences. But perpetrators aren’t being prosecuted consistently - in part because of conflicting business, political, and media interests.

  • This video is just as bad as any Greek reportage on it. The police officer died by a specific team's fan at a volleyball game and it's known which team it was. You didn't mention that and merged it to make it look like a footballing issue. Also there's an AEK fan who was killed by Croatian hooligans who the police knew well they're travelling to see a game in Athens. The issue isn't the fans, it's the corrupt team presidents who are large shipowners who control the police and operate like a mafia.

An argument can be made for nowadays' incidents being more cruel due to estrangement/weaker social bonds etc but chav/hooligan culture used to be way more spread. Nowadays' poverty does not help but neither did the excesses acted like 2 decades back.. a very sad phenomenon overall in any case

  • There is usually somehow a strange connection between football club owners and hooligans. A couple of months ago a convicted for murder hooligan got shooted in his car. The owner of the car was a football club owner. Also some clubs employ hooligans or they provide them with tickets to sell and earn money. Hooligans are usually protecting and supporting owners interests.
