Sergio Aguero wheeling away with his shirt whipping above his head. A pitch invasion at the Hawthorns with Kieran Richardson held aloft by delirious fans. Alan Shearer's arms out wide with a Premier League trophy crown. The final day of the Premier League has created many iconic moments. These are three of the best.
Seb Stafford-Bloor tells the story of three of the most dramatic final days of the Premier League season. Illustrated by Craig Silcock.

People might say AGUEROOOOOO is the best final day moment ever but what West Brom did to survive at the final day despite being last for nearly an entire season is also a stuff of magic
Both are equally fantastic. Imagine that happens in the same season.
People outside the UK don't actually care about the relegation battles given that most of us are glory supporters of the Top 6. So the title decider moments are more significant.
Which of the two examples ended up with a trophy?
@@JamesHussain82 Both more memorable than the Chelsea 22/23 season.
@@JamesHussain82 Not everything has to do with the trophy, especially when being relegated from the Premier League means you will lose significant amount of revenue that might jeopardize the club
Last season was also good. 1st place battle, top four battle, and a relegation battle
Top 4 battle had already been decided but top 6 battle was on for the day
@@archiebuchan2563 no it hadn’t. It basically had if Spurs didn’t slip up against Norwich (they didn’t) but it wasn’t locked yet. The original comment was accurate.
A bit disappointed it wasn't mentioned. It had all the drama also at the top end (City 3 goals in 15 mins after going 2-0 down), and the relegation dogfight was quite entertaining too. If only Everton won and kicked MU out of the top 6, it would've been perfect 😂
That Balotelli assist low-key underrated 😂😂
His only assist in his PL career
Exactly, there would be no Agueeeroooooo moment if not for Mario :)
Why always him
It’s not under rated or low key though.
Bigger assist for Joey Barton in that game. Never in all my life have I seen a player so desperate to get sent off.
City’s 93:20 and last seasons 3 goals in 5 minutes are my 1 and 2 in my opinion. (City bias on full blast)
21/22 PL final day is far superior than 1995. City and Liverpool both were chasing a win from behind, with both of them succeeding to get that win, while Blackburn and United both bottled a win, very much anti climactic i think.
The greatest ending ever in the Engliah League: Arsenal V Liverpool. 26th May 1989. 1st place Liverpool against 2nd place Arsenal playing against each other on the last fixture of the season which hasn' 't happened in over 100 years. Arsenal wanting to end a 19 year title drought and had to win against an 1980's Liverpool team that was the best team in the world at the time by two clear goals which I believe no team has done at Anfield for over 3 years to finish level on points and goal difference but with more goals scored, at Anfield where I believe Liverpool only lost couple times in 4 years and was on a 4 month unbeaten run in the League To score the second goal with that amazing build up with seconds remaining in injury time, Aguero moment doesn 't come close to this mate This is the greatest ending in any football league in the world. From another comment: Man City winning on the final day may have seemed more dramatic due to Sky Sports, media, money, and pundits, but on that day Utd were playing Sunderland and City playing QPR, not exactly top of the table stuff. This was incredible, the 2 top teams, Arsenal having a huge lead during the season and then having to do what was literally impossible at Anfield. Don't let anyone tell you this wasn't the biggest 2 minutes in the history of the league.
@@TT-hx9njit’s not that. To remember football pre-Premier League you’d have to be approaching or past 50 and people that age aren’t on the internet or often willing to talk about glorious moments because if they have to reach back that far then their club likely isn’t very big anymore and so wouldn’t be the topic of conversation that much.
Bundesliga this season almost give the same vibes as this but Dortmund being Dortmund bottled their title hopes
Hmm Dortmund didn't get their Aguero moment. Bayern did with Musiala. But 11 in a row...
Haller bottled that penalty. I was watching both games at the same time.
1st half dortmund was abyssmal tbh. they had their title in their hand but yeah, Dortmund
@@GiantKush yes but it’s 80% great achievement 20% boring
Bayer Neverkusen now have a competitor
City's last season 3 goals in 5 mins to take title from liverpool is fresh in mind. But the AGUEROOOOO one will be the one to beat for sure.
Gundogan was a monster against us that day
But also Liverpool were not winning their match for most the game
nah that was boring
You should have mentioned the 2010/11 relegation battle. Great for neutrals, but for fans of Wolves, Wigan, Birmingham and Blackpool it was nerve shredding. Blackburn also started the day in trouble. All five teams were separated by one point before the games started. And all five teams would spend time outside the relegation zone, but Birmingham and Blackpool were the unlucky ones in the end
No surprise that these guys didn’t mention, they sure do miss a lot for being the “world’s best football journalists”
@@dashuntas.m4045 The Athletic, and the most of modern "tactical" media hail City and put them on a pedestal, and claim they play a superior style of play. The minnows are overlooked, due do them not being able to generate more clicks.
As a City fan I agree this should’ve gotten more recognition.
Shout out my dog Hunt for the relegation saving goal 🙏🏿
@@dashuntas.m4045 I assume the actual "world's best football journalists" would've been able to put more seasons in the top 3?
Survival Sunday will always be memorable to me though I’ll never forget Phil Jones face at Sunderland when he realized City had won the title.
Great choices. Even as a Liverpool fan, I can admit that Michael Thomas' 2-0 goal for Arsenal to take the title on goal difference was pretty spectacular. That was pre-Premier League though
Lies again? Dallas Bull S**t
something similar to the Aguero moment happened yesterday in the promotion race of 2.Bundesliga, where HSV defended an early 1-0 lead up until the end while Heidenheim came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2 in injury time and secure direct promotion
Whats even more hilarious is that Hamburg fans stormed the pitch after they won and got the news of the 3rd Heidenheim goal while they were celebrating on the pitch
This was also happened in 3.Liga as well. Osnabrück scored 2 injury time goals like what happened for Manchester United in 1999 Champions League Final against the reserve side of Borussia Dortmund to deny Wiesbaden's historic promotion. Also, the first team counterpart in Bundesliga bottled up for title race as well.
The fact that Aguero last minute goal was the first live premier league match i have ever see in my life makes it more memorable for me as a city fan💙
Was it no Edinburgh Dzeko that scored the last goal of that game I always remember aguero scoring first
That was most city fans first game too
@@Its_not_could_of u might be thinking that I switch teams after City wins the league but it's not like that ...i had zero clue about premier league and I had never heard of any team in PL before and i was still a kid that time and was thinking to watch some sports so i switch to football Channel not knowing anything about premier league( i just know that it was football ) and right after i switch the channel i saw Aguero scoring the final goal ....only after 2 or 3 years i came to know it was the winning goal for city first league title ...
😂 how convenient
@@hmmm_m. I’m not saying that bud, don’t worry I’m just saying it’s the same as all the united fans that only started supporting united because they were winning so many trophies. It’s so easy to just hop on board and start supporting the best team
That relegation battle was fierce and entertaining but the Augeroooo moment most likely will take the good medal, I would also put that down to recency bias
crazy cuz i think as time goes on and we have more relatively boring final days that moment will be remembered even more dearly
That relegation battle was incredible. I remember sitting in the North Upper of The Valley singing 'We sent the Palace down' to the tune of ammerillo. Amazing day.
AGUEROOOOOO! I swear you'll never see anything like this ever again!
The Aguero moment was my first live football match. I was just a kid and the emotions that went through the fans were amazing tbh.
2012 was a traumatic season for me. Pretty sure I got ED for a week after that. I was with friends, casual spectators... I was ready to see United lost the league, I was more hopeful of United scoring 9+ goals past Sunderland than City not winning against QPR. To be given that hope, that high and excitement, and have it all crushing down in 3 minutes seriously broke me.
I was expecting United to score a lot of goals too. We ended up only seeing 1 goal.
Not gonna lie, that's exactly how I felt watching the Bundesliga the other day. I was so ready to witness history, but no the football gods disagree. Bayern has to win the münchenliga. I feel like I'll die before I see another team win it.
Please, talk about the 1989 final day, it was even more epic!

This is for the Premier League, I know, but IMO, only Aguero has the chance of topping "Thomas! It's up for grabs now! Thomas!"
didn't you know that football only started in 1992?!
Also the only example where both potential champions were playing each other on the final day, level on points, level on goal difference, and it was settled with the final kick as the underdogs prevailed against the dominant champs. Hard to dream up any league scenario where the final game has higher stakes. It also had longer term significance as the final dethroning of the 1980s Liverpool powerhouse. Within a couple of years the PL money began flowing and the Man Utd hegemony was established.
@@osman732So true. Even if Sky refuses to believe football existed before 1992, what you just stated is true. That incredible Arsenal win at Anfield was the beginning of the end of Liverpool's hold on English football.

The final day of the 2010-11 is another good example. Five teams that could have gone down with only one already decided and they switched around multiple times throughout the day.
I believe if Sergio Agüero hadn’t scored that goal, Man City wouldn’t be where they are today.
True, not only it influenced Man city❤, it also raised Premier League standards
Disagree. Sir Alex's following season was his last - Manchester City would have capitalised.
The rise is inevitable tbh
The only difference that would probably have created is an earlier departure of Mancini.

Absolutely Agree with you. I watched live on TV and this is my first big game of football.
Hi tifo team, waiting for your sensible transfer series. I really love that series and hoping that it starts soon.
I'm just here to say one thing, and that is... AGUEROOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Although lesser spoken about (more so among Arsenal fans), the 2012/13 final day was interesting as both Arsenal and their local rivals were playing for the final Champions League qualification spot. Both of them won their games v Newcastle and Sunderland respectively, but the scenario was notable for Tottenham fans celebrating a goal that never happened due to Alan Sugar humorously tweeting a result.
Did Arsenal win the 2013/14 champions league? No. Ergo meaningless in the grand scheme of things
@@Matthew-bu7fg is that the whole point of qualifying for it? Why do teams care if they get cl knowing that they won’t win it then?
Costing Man United a title is still very fondly remembered at West Ham. Staying up with a Tevez winner at Old Trafford was the best final day though.
Remembering too that in 2012, it all looked so routine. City were winning 1-0 at half time, and even when QPR pulled one back, Joey Barton then got himself sent off (and tried to take the other 21 players with him). QPR took the lead whilst down to 10 men. Results elsewhere saved QPR from the drop, meaning that at 3-2, both set of fans were seen celebrating together and shaking hands in the stands!
I'll never ever forget that 11/12 season and I'm an arsenal fan. Ehat a final day it was ❤
This year's Premier League season was pretty dramatic! 😍 I'm happy for Everton 😊
We had that in the Bundesliga a few days ago.
There channel never disappoint with their content loved it already
Aguero goal was the 94th minute as it was on 93:20 👍🏽
That Dog fight graphic was brilliant Tifo team 😀
I distinct remember being at home, ringing my dad!! They did it! They did!
Even though there’s no nostalgia bias, but what Gündogan did last season was definitely top 5
This was a superbly made video
I remember this day so vividly. I was home in South Africa watching with Paps and my brother, when my Mom asked me to quickly drop her off at work. The game was on 80mins. I figured I wasnt really missing much. Boy was I wrong. Got back home and my Dad had recorded the second half.
Excellwnt game..... bravooo
It keeps getting taken down but there is a video of the United vs city finishes done in split screen in real time. It’s amazing.
QPR giving the ball back to City, among other strange things, is priceless for them.
A video about Lutton Town would be much appreciated, what they’ve done the past 10years is smth to be written in the history books, and is nothing short of a fantasy story you can only achieve in video games such as FIFA and FM
Ah yes 2012 a classic season for City's ffp breaches, QPR folded so hard in the second half, golden AK's all round for those boys.
Shout 'hooray!' as the fans celebrate with a nice pint of water of at the local.
The season United fans should remember 😅
@N. Woorey fingers crossed 🤞 City are appropriately charged for there 100's of breaches of ffp and the rightful teams are awarded there trophies. Personally, I'm shocked Man City owners have any time for football, given there so busy commiting genocide in Yeman.
@@ljmars3787 they made peace with Yemen now, and the Sheikh probably have a time watching and continue with City projects
@N. Woorey City is an advertising board and nothing else. Nothing exists of Main Road City now. And it's a cease fire, the conflict hasn't ended, im sure if the Saudis don't get their way bombing will resume. But silver lining! The UK sell them the weapons, so someone is going to cash in.
"it had dramatic moments and drama" is an average day in sports industry
Love that Dzeko gets respect here for his important equalizer in the 92nd
Should do one for play off finals.. they always deliver! Watford Leicester the most notable but even in recent times there are some peaches!
May 26 1989 is greatest day of any league finish. EVER!
I like the Battle of Britain esque Spitfire animations, though it is disconcerting to see them dogfighting each other. 🤔...Must've been the Scot that thought of that one 😆
This year's Premier league season was outstanding
Last season final day, more like final 10 minutes, were for me second on this list behind AGÜEROOOOOOO
That bottle job we did in that 2004/05 :(. I remeber that well :'(
that goal assist was one of finest moments
The Aguero goal was not the 95th minute, every Man City fan knows it was 93:20
Beautiful
Worth mentioning that Charlton and palace are local rivals, so what could of been a non event for a team safely modtable had a edge. We still sing about relegating palace despite the fact they are two leagues above. The irony isn't lost on us but still nice to think of better days under curbs
Idea of amazing
Its nice one and great sharing I believe..
I still remember where I was that exact moment Aguero scored....on the dorm at college.....
I've got to say it's AGUEROOOOOO because of it's impact on the game. Relegation battles can make for interesting drama, but they ultimately have little impact outside of the club concerned. Abramovich buying Chelsea was disruptive for the game, and set the tone of the EPL between 2004 and 2010 with a huge jump in player expenditure. However in the 10/11 season Man City joined the club by finishing third behind Chelsea and Man Utd. Unlike Chelsea they weren't a club expected to be able to challenge for the title before the money. That last minute goal was a clear indicator of where the game was heading.
Good work 👏👏👏💯💯💯

Amazing
09/10 season is also insane
Sorry guys but you should have put live table instead. Could have been be easier to understand the dramas😮
the 2005 relegation scrap you've mentioned but not the 1994 one? Everton scoring in the last 10 minutes to save themselves and then Sheffield United conceding in the final minute to relegate themselves and ensure Ipswich (who had drawn 0-0 all afternoon but were only in the relegation zone for the final ten minutes of their match) stayed up. Southampton, Oldham and Manchester City were also involved in that scrap too with Oldham going through the trap door too.
On the same day of the 04/05 season. Boro drew with City in a UEFA Cup decider. Fowler missed a last minute penna to send City into Euro. Good old Mark Schwarzer
great choices
Good work
