I honestly think Berdly is my favorite part of Chapter 2. Just about every scene involving him is hilarious, his battle theme is a banger, and it was nice seeing him get some much-needed character development. Mention Snowgrave in the replies one more time and I’ll put you in a real grave

Can we talk about the similarities between Mettaton and Berdly? -Both are fought in the “normal” route, and in order to spare them, you have to impress them -Both have special boss fights in the genocide route, with short underdeveloped themes because the battle is meant to end quickly, right before the final boss -Both are surface-level “cocky annoying self centered” characters who actually have a deep arc related to how someone they loved helped them and they feel like they’re using that person and don’t know how to approach the conflict (Alphys/Noelle) Coincidence? Probably, but I think it’s interesting to point out.

Chapter 2 was really just I big nod to mettaton neo. The main enemy was a robot with a similar build to mettaton other form, The hidden boss is called neo like mettaton neo, and the whole technology based aspect of chapter 2 is just vary mettaton.

unfortunately noelle is literally objectively better than ralsei so i don't think it'd work for game balance reasons

@@samario7935 I don't see why not, as long as the party is together genuinely swapping who's in for combat doesn't interfere with the dialog unless its battle specific, at which point Toby could make scenarios that may seperate the party from time to time where it matters. Or hell, he could use that to his advantage and have different routes depending on who does what while in your party. As an example in terms of balance-- I can play through xenoblade with the best team comp for damage and ditch sharla if i want to, but it doesn't mean i have to.

I seriously believe that berdly is one of the best characters in chapter 2 , just because you find him annoying doesn’t make him a bad character or unlikable. Sure he is a jerk but we’ve seen many characters who were like that and got a good development.

Susie becomes more compassionate during the events of Chapter 1. Noelle overcomes her fears and timid nature in Chapter 2 (provided you aren't a truly atrocious human being ofc) Berdly himself becomes more humble during Chapter 2 and starts being able to admit his (several) problems. Deltarune has a theme about people being able to change and improve. As Queen says, there's nothing wrong with him - he's just an asshole. And that means he's capable of change and self-improvement.

!Spoilers for Ch2's Alt Route! . . . . I like that Berdly got some development from 'smug smarty', and I especially love the change between normal and snowgrave route. It's incredibly subtle but he quickly sees the situation as serious and switches from the smug attitude to actually trying to save his childhood friend. Instead of targeting both he targets exclusively Kris until he is down. His attacks become more focused. Even his sprite loses a single black pixel that knocks away the smile off his face. I imagine if he isn't dead his perspective will have taken on a much more serious and protective one, but it's just as likely at the end of the snowgrave route Berdly is "fallen down". F for the bird nerd.

Yeah its really tragic that some people still hate him, especially after playing through that route myself. Maybe he's a bit of a nerdy prick sometimes sure, but he stood up for his friend regardless, and is probably brain dead now because of that. His actions there aren't of someone trying to use Noelle to keep his status as the smartest, but of someone who actually cares about her well being. It just makes his (unconfirmed but probable) demise more unsettling and undeserved.

I personally think that Berdley is permanently in a coma, since he never got out of the ice from SnowGrave. And if he went away alone with the Dark Fountain, then that probably means his consciousness is gone. Essentially, he's dead, but not actually dead.

The main reason it took so long is because toby was establishing everything about every other instalment, which is why later titles are going to come out a lot quicker because the story and the like is already established

I really like the way the Berdly character was designed. He was designed to be a total jackass with an interesting backstory. Plus he was a catalyst to making many Queen scenes extremely funny. He was basically used as a punching bag for Queen. Edit: I feel like this song perfectly reflects Berdly's personality too. It's kinda annoying but it's a little bit sad too at the same time.

I can imagine that, Like in the queen fight where she captures him, instead she manages to capture susie and ralsei in his wires, and when about to capture Kris, he appears and cuts the wire (maybe with Noelle?) and says something cool Like susie when saving Kris from the King. something I noticed about berdly is that you never really DEFEAT him with attacking. In the coaster battle, his coaster explodes. In the alley battle, he’s exhausted and tired no matter HOW you end the fight. Keep in mind that you and ralsei (with pretty weak weapons) in chapter 1 can knock susie out MULTIPLE TIMES if you keep just spamming attacks. Berdly takes a good amount of hits from both a full party (with super strong attack-focused weapons) and even more hits vs you and Noelle. I’m probably reading into this way too much, but if this isn’t a dark world-exclusive power up or something, then Berdly is pretty damn tough

Berdly is just so Ironically Cool and unironically cringe that he actually became Unironically Cool, you know what I'm saying? Fire design, amazing theme, an amazing Weapon and an actually hard fight with some attacks actually being pretty creative (like the spear one for example). I'd say Berdly is one of the best characters in chapter 2, if not in the whole game.

It's probably safe to assume every chapter of Deltarune is going to feature a "problematic" character that antagonizes the party and needs to be swayed over time. Chapter 1 was Susie. Chapter 2 was Berdly. Chapter 3 will probably be Catti.

Chapter 2 made me love Berdly way more than I thought I would. To see him actually admit his flaws throughout the Pacifist route, attempt an apology and then apologize again after having misunderstood Noelle's feelings really showed you that he meant well. Of course though, it's the Snowgrave fight where he drops all pretenses and definitely confirms he cares for Noelle far more than we'd have believed.

Berdly…the second I saw him working for queen I knew he’d have a redemption part like Susie. I just didn’t expect it to hit so hard, he’s an arrogant egotistical jerk on the outside and a frightened little bluebird on the inside. I felt a real connection with this since I have been told I’m incredibly smart by my peers but because of some learning disabilities, not severe but enough to make things a bit tough at times, I don’t feel like I really am. Expectations are high for me and that’s terrifying…it’s why I resonate with Berdly so much since he’s in a similar situation and I’ve never had that connection with a character before.

Okay but we need to acknowledge about Berdly: -Children who receive adequate attention and love from parents do NOT go power-hungry searching for more praise after they win a single spelling bee -He says "I was a forgettable bluebird. No one even remembered my name." Queen thinks his name is Burghley throughout most of the chapter. Queen may or may not serve as a mother figure to pretty much everyone, it's debatable. Either way, worrying. -In SnowGrave, as soon as he realizes we're doing something to Noelle, he immediatly fights us with all he has, and in the SnowGrave fight he stops targeting Noelle when she has low HP. -He's literally the funniest character in the game. -Hearing that it's okay not to be smart was probably therapuetic for a lot of kids who are great but don't get great grades. This is why Berdly is my favorite character ^v^

I think it's a bit more balanced in this game. Fights against other lightner monsters (Berdley, Susie) function mostly the same as battles against darkner monsters. Unless you count the ability to create a Dark Fountain a standard Lightner thing (everyone seems to think that any Lightner can do it, but we've only actually seen Kris's SOUL interact with the Dark Fountains in any meaningful way.

the reason it took so long was because they had to switch engines twice during development. Chapter 3, 4, and 5 (which will all release at the same time) will probably take around 2 years

Can we talk about the similarities between Mettaton and Berdly? -Both are fought in the “normal” route, and in order to spare them, you have to impress them -Both have special boss fights in the genocide route, with short underdeveloped themes because the battle is meant to end quickly, right before the final boss -Both are surface-level “cocky annoying self centered” characters who actually have a deep arc related to how someone they loved helped them and they feel like they’re using that person and don’t know how to approach the conflict (Alphys/Noelle) Coincidence? Probably, but I think it’s interesting to point out.
Chapter 2 was really just I big nod to mettaton neo. The main enemy was a robot with a similar build to mettaton other form, The hidden boss is called neo like mettaton neo, and the whole technology based aspect of chapter 2 is just vary mettaton.

Berdly was my first death in Chapter 2. I really like how his character changed and I hope he becomes an actual party member in later chapters. I'd like to have the ability to freely swap Susie/Ralsei/Noelle/Berdly for more interesting gameplay

@@samario7935 I don't see why not, as long as the party is together genuinely swapping who's in for combat doesn't interfere with the dialog unless its battle specific, at which point Toby could make scenarios that may seperate the party from time to time where it matters. Or hell, he could use that to his advantage and have different routes depending on who does what while in your party. As an example in terms of balance-- I can play through xenoblade with the best team comp for damage and ditch sharla if i want to, but it doesn't mean i have to.

Susie becomes more compassionate during the events of Chapter 1. Noelle overcomes her fears and timid nature in Chapter 2 (provided you aren't a truly atrocious human being ofc) Berdly himself becomes more humble during Chapter 2 and starts being able to admit his (several) problems. Deltarune has a theme about people being able to change and improve. As Queen says, there's nothing wrong with him - he's just an asshole. And that means he's capable of change and self-improvement.

!Spoilers for Ch2's Alt Route! . . . . I like that Berdly got some development from 'smug smarty', and I especially love the change between normal and snowgrave route. It's incredibly subtle but he quickly sees the situation as serious and switches from the smug attitude to actually trying to save his childhood friend. Instead of targeting both he targets exclusively Kris until he is down. His attacks become more focused. Even his sprite loses a single black pixel that knocks away the smile off his face. I imagine if he isn't dead his perspective will have taken on a much more serious and protective one, but it's just as likely at the end of the snowgrave route Berdly is "fallen down". F for the bird nerd.
Yeah its really tragic that some people still hate him, especially after playing through that route myself. Maybe he's a bit of a nerdy prick sometimes sure, but he stood up for his friend regardless, and is probably brain dead now because of that. His actions there aren't of someone trying to use Noelle to keep his status as the smartest, but of someone who actually cares about her well being. It just makes his (unconfirmed but probable) demise more unsettling and undeserved.

I really like the way the Berdly character was designed. He was designed to be a total jackass with an interesting backstory. Plus he was a catalyst to making many Queen scenes extremely funny. He was basically used as a punching bag for Queen. Edit: I feel like this song perfectly reflects Berdly's personality too. It's kinda annoying but it's a little bit sad too at the same time.

something I noticed about berdly is that you never really DEFEAT him with attacking. In the coaster battle, his coaster explodes. In the alley battle, he’s exhausted and tired no matter HOW you end the fight. Keep in mind that you and ralsei (with pretty weak weapons) in chapter 1 can knock susie out MULTIPLE TIMES if you keep just spamming attacks. Berdly takes a good amount of hits from both a full party (with super strong attack-focused weapons) and even more hits vs you and Noelle. I’m probably reading into this way too much, but if this isn’t a dark world-exclusive power up or something, then Berdly is pretty damn tough

Berdly is just so Ironically Cool and unironically cringe that he actually became Unironically Cool, you know what I'm saying? Fire design, amazing theme, an amazing Weapon and an actually hard fight with some attacks actually being pretty creative (like the spear one for example). I'd say Berdly is one of the best characters in chapter 2, if not in the whole game.

Yeah, it feels like the whole team made a huge effort for nubert and the relevance of him while berdly feels way smaller and non-complex compared to nubert

Maybe he'll become a party member in later chapters or something, seems like Toby ain't afraid to add new party members later down the line. Unless something happens to Berdly at the end, haven't finished chapter 2 yet.

It's probably safe to assume every chapter of Deltarune is going to feature a "problematic" character that antagonizes the party and needs to be swayed over time. Chapter 1 was Susie. Chapter 2 was Berdly. Chapter 3 will probably be Catti.
In chapter 3 toriel and undye will probably be in the dark world, if you seen the ending.

Chapter 2 made me love Berdly way more than I thought I would. To see him actually admit his flaws throughout the Pacifist route, attempt an apology and then apologize again after having misunderstood Noelle's feelings really showed you that he meant well. Of course though, it's the Snowgrave fight where he drops all pretenses and definitely confirms he cares for Noelle far more than we'd have believed.

Berdly…the second I saw him working for queen I knew he’d have a redemption part like Susie. I just didn’t expect it to hit so hard, he’s an arrogant egotistical jerk on the outside and a frightened little bluebird on the inside. I felt a real connection with this since I have been told I’m incredibly smart by my peers but because of some learning disabilities, not severe but enough to make things a bit tough at times, I don’t feel like I really am. Expectations are high for me and that’s terrifying…it’s why I resonate with Berdly so much since he’s in a similar situation and I’ve never had that connection with a character before.
even though he’s the butt of a ton of jokes, i fucking love berdly. his themes are all absolutely amazing oh my god. each chapter has been fucking phenomenal so far, so excited for what chapter 3-5 has in store

Berdly, the character who was either everyone's least favorite or completely forgotten in Chapter 1 Now has amazing boss battles, even better battle music, and a role in the game and plot. Truly an epic man.

Crazy to think chapter 2 came out two years ago, and yet Berdly’s theme is still my favourite song out of Deltarune and Undertale, I really hope he isn’t dead since he had got to be one of my favourite characters, I loved everything about him. Okay but we need to acknowledge about Berdly: -Children who receive adequate attention and love from parents do NOT go power-hungry searching for more praise after they win a single spelling bee -He says "I was a forgettable bluebird. No one even remembered my name." Queen thinks his name is Burghley throughout most of the chapter. Queen may or may not serve as a mother figure to pretty much everyone, it's debatable. Either way, worrying. -In SnowGrave, as soon as he realizes we're doing something to Noelle, he immediatly fights us with all he has, and in the SnowGrave fight he stops targeting Noelle when she has low HP. -He's literally the funniest character in the game. -Hearing that it's okay not to be smart was probably therapuetic for a lot of kids who are great but don't get great grades. This is why Berdly is my favorite character ^v^
Man.. this chapter was so awesome! Chapter 1's ost tbh is a little better but the ost from this chapter is still amazing! This theme is my favorite battle theme. I'm so happy they kept Rude Buster as the main battle theme!

Chapter 1's OST is more consistent while chapter 2 has higher highs. Some parts of the ost also had to grow on me first.
yeah, i think chapter 1s ost is a lot better. chapter 2s is still really good tho thanks to songs like smart race, big shot and cybers world. and tbf chapter 2 has only been out for a couple days so ive had less time to grow to love its ost compared to chapter 1

What i mean is that it sounds like in undertale one human is more dangerous than one monster, but would the same apply to lightners be they human or monster being more dangerous than one darkner?
Hm... Considering that the Lightners usually need to be in a team to win against Darkners, I don't think that's the case..
I think it's a bit more balanced in this game. Fights against other lightner monsters (Berdley, Susie) function mostly the same as battles against darkner monsters. Unless you count the ability to create a Dark Fountain a standard Lightner thing (everyone seems to think that any Lightner can do it, but we've only actually seen Kris's SOUL interact with the Dark Fountains in any meaningful way.

@@paulrance5445 Yeah, but without context, the sentence just seems like a terrible snow-themed version of “I see a living chicken nugget” and the fact that defeating him normally says something like “You’re filled with the power of chicken nuggets” means that there really isn’t much spoiling since most would probably think “oh haha noelle’s a snow user”.

The worst part about Berdley is when he is actually kind of badass. His animation when he fires the bullets out of his weapon like a gun is so cool.

the reason it took so long was because they had to switch engines twice during development. Chapter 3, 4, and 5 (which will all release at the same time) will probably take around 2 years

Berdly might be a nerd, but in the Cyber World, he can THROW HANDS. He held his own against our three main protagonists and only got beat up then because he had a car. Then he beats our asses when we’re with Noelle, only saved because she’s Noelle. I genuinely believe that Berdly would’ve beat our ass in the weird route if we didn’t strongarm Noelle into using Snowgrave.
The fact that there’s an actual dialogue when he downs Kris could very easily lead to believe that he canonically downs Kris in snowgrave tbh
