5:13 Oh come on! You had Nothing Else Matters, but none of the first three Metallica albums?
4*
@@zephyrmusic_ No, I specifically made sure to only count the ones with Cliff still in the band.
Theyre on the 1970-2023 quiz.
A more accurate title would have been "Guess the Metal/Rock song..." since some of the songs I would consider rock instead of metal.
So because you consider certain songs to be rock instead of metal, everyone else should? Are you the definer of all things metal? LOL.
@@Frodojack Some of that shit was clearly not metal. If you were a real metal head you would realize that. Just because pop culture wants to label it metal, doesn't mean it's metal.
@@tommymckiddy7872 No True Scotsman fallacy. The only one I'll give you is the first song by Rainbow, which probably should be listed as hard rock. The others all qualify under different subgenres of metal.
@@Frodojack He's not even forcing everyone to agree with him, wtf is up with you lol 💀. He's just saying that he considers some songs to be rock instead of metal, its just what he thinks, its just his own opinion, if anyone wants to agree with him, they can, but he isn't even forcing anyone to consider or agree with him. But honestly he is correct, there obviously is some shit that isn't metal at all.
@@NathanBrittt I didn't write that he was forcing anybody to think anything LOL. WTF is wrong with YOU? I wrote that he made a No True Scotsman fallacy, which has nothing to do with force. I agreed with the Rainbow song not being metal, but the other ones all qualify as a subgenre of metal. If you disagree, tell us which ones and why instead of making blanket statements.
No Lamb of God? But you had Breaking Benjamin???
I think those of us over 40 year old metalheads would have gotten most of the songs after 2004 if you had the songs of Mastodon, Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, Electric Wizard, and the like.
I concur.
Even us 30 to 35ers would do well.
The battle waged on and on...
There should have been some Nightwish.
Playing kinda fast and loose with the definition of "Metal"
I'm 55 and this went exactly like I thought it would...I knew all the older stuff and very little of the newer!
Same 😂
I hear ya. I did so well in the 80's and 90 and as soon as the 2000's started it dropped off. I didn't check off any songs from 2010 to present minus 72 seasons.
Everything after 2000 I was clueless about except for Type O Negative. Just a bunch of pop metal bullshit that real metal heads would never listen to. The only songs I would listen to were the new ones by Iron Maiden and Slayer. I just haven't heard them yet.
I'm about to hit 50 in June and got everything correct until about 2003 - then it was, let's say, sporadic..... 🤣 Guess I'm a 70s,80s and 90s guy.... Glad I got Type O and Gojira right though!
me too, i guessed everything pre 2000, but everything post 2000's i couldn't. All that Nu Metal. .
My only issue is that there are too many repeat artosts on here, which isnt a bad thing normally, but i coulda found 50 different metal bands that sound nothing alike. Actually. I have a playlist of over 300 songs and no single artist is repeated that spans the entire history of heavy metal. It only took me a year amd a half to do it, and im lazy
I'm 55 and got maybe 5-6 band and song combinations, I recognized way more of just the band. I'm a fan of music across all of the decades. You played some obscure parts of songs that were hard to guess. Fun to play along though. I don't know if I'm just old and my recall isn't what it used to be, but 6 seconds went way faster than it should. 😅
Not me feeling uncultured after this video 😂
Hahahah, me too :)
If most of that new shit is considered cultured, then kindly leave me the fuck out of it.
I'm glad I didn't recognize Limp Bizkit, embarrassed I didn't guess at least the band on Kreator or Sabaton, 6 seconds is short sometimes. Bummer no Exodus, Testament, Helstar or OverKill
i was not expecting amaranthe on here
Um. Whoever compiled this list seems to be extremely confused about the difference between metal and hard rock. Detroit Rock City and Girls, Girls, Girls are not, in any way, shape or form, Metal. Some of the stuff selected from the '90s and '00s is kinda borderline, but I'll give you a pass because Grunge and Nu Metal did weird things to meld different styles together. So, two songs each from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Rammstein and Metallica, but only one each from Megadeth, Motörhead, Sepultura, Pantera and Anthrax. And where were Exodus, Candlemass, Nightwish, Helloween and Blind Guardian? I realise the list has only 50 spaces, so I'm not necessarily expecting to see Crimson Glory, Rage, Metal Church, Meshuggah, Cradle of Filth, Obituary or Powerwolf in there, but you have missed out some of the genre-defining bands.
in fairness, at the time, KISS and Crüe were considered metal. not by today's standards, but it was back then. if Twisted Sister was in there, i would have recognized it. I totally would have caught cradle of filth, they are unique and distinct. and yeah, most of the stuff after 2000 was "nu" metal. i guess, technically, it's "metal", but not my metal. the one iron maiden song was so new, i barely recognized it, even though i know that song, i still failed to see The Writing On The Wall.
obviously, i meant 2 maiden songs. I knew The Number Of The Beast. the other one, i didn't expect them to use a 2021 song. I fully expected some 2021 band i never heard of
Most of the songs arent even metal like comoooooon
Welcome to the evolution of things
@@diesel9vs1milch It's called "When a non metalhead tries to make a metal list" , I'd say only ~15% of the bands mentioned are actually metal
Agreed 😇
I'm 56 and liked the first 20 years, then I got old
1975 to 1995 the best 20years for metal .period
Awesome blind test, thanks !
I did not realize that Motley Crue was a metal band.
hair metal
Glam/Hair Metal…unfortunately
Shout at the devil is very metal.
How in gods name is BMTH on here but not slipknot man
Has the killers album cover on the thumbnail… doesn’t have a song from killers😂
Tbh not enough maiden 😅
Hears lots of open chugs on extra strings Me: “Korn probably” The video: Korn Hears high, fast, melodic harmonies past 2000 Me: “Dragonforce probably” The video: Dragonforce (Based on a true story)
I didn't guess the first song, by Rainbow, probably because the only song I know from them in the Dio era is "Man On The Silver Mountain." But I knew every artist from 1976 through 1993 (and the only song title I couldn't remember fast enough was "Madhouse." I'm going to sound like a curmudgeon here, but not only did I not guess any artist right after 1993 except Metallica, but they and Iron Maiden were the only entries I liked from after 1993. DragonForce sounded like they might be listenable. Disturbed has some songs I like, but not the entry here. My goodness I'm getting old. Now get off my lawn! 🤣
You need to hear Stargazer snd Gates of Babylon from Raindow. Among others
Holy fuck you had 49 years of metal songs and you had to repeat bands Come on dude 😩🤦🏻
Ugh i was doing so good until Drop Dead Cynical (which I should've known), Bismarck, The Writing in the Wall came up. I got everything from 1988 up until those few at the end correct, and most of the ones before 87 as well, but i guessed the wrong Mötley song and said Looks that Kill 😂😭
Haha, excuse me... Where's Slipknot ??
In the ring of hell reserved for shitty music where they belong.
I personally, but it’s only a personal thought, that’s it’s not metal, it’s not music. To me, it’s only an ear-breaker
@@pierreferdes3382 That's fine, your ears are just broken mate, not Slipknot fault :p
@@NipponTAB this bro has Nirvana and BTS in one playlist, that says a lot about him...
@@pierreferdes3382 lol, your hearing is broken because of the crap that is on your playlist
Its criminal to do no slipknot you had 1999, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2014, 2019, and 2023 and no slipknot
If somebody showed me their metal playlist and this was it, I'd stop talking to them about music immediately. Breaking Benjamin? BMTH? Fucking KISS? KISS wasn't even metal back in the day lmao. Surely you could have found something else besides slayer for 2015 as well. May as well throw three days grace and nickleback on here lmao. This is saaaad.
Yeah. This is a terrible representation of metal.
If I had no idea what Metal was and this was presented to me as a playlist I probably would’ve never gotten into Metal. I appreciate the effort but there was very little real metal. Pantera, Sepultura, Manson, Tool and a few others are great but the 80’s and 70’s choices were really bad.
I got 33 of the first 36. I couldn't hear the first Judas Priest song, I knew bands for Rammstein and Dragonforce but spaced on the song. After 2010 I got Gojira, Slayer, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. I think that makes 37/50.
Up to mid-90s I think I nailed every single song. After that it all went downhill. I'm not sure I would call all these songs "metal" however.
Honestly surprised 1984 by Slaughter to Prevail wasn't used for 2022 or their song VIKING wasn't used for 2023. Both of those tracks were absolutely incredible
Dude the fact that STP, Lorna Shore, and Knocked Loose aren't on here is CRAZY. I mean they put fucking Iron Maiden for 2021 over something from Kostolom or AIRTN, and I like BMTH but surely Blinding Faith could've been on here. 2023 could've had Deep in the Willow or Viking.
no Darkthrone or Bathory? At least I recognized Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Sepultura :)
37 70s and from 2014 onwards just killed me
Like the scientific way you approached that "feeling" Guess my brain is broken because I can't seem to feel it . (Romantically) Friends...... works great.
Limp Biscuit is my favorite metal band.
Got 19 right. Roughly speaking, leaving a few exceptions aside, most of the stuff from 2000 onwards I'm not familiar with. They have pretty much the same kind of voice, the same guitar sound and the same production, at least in my estimation. Anyway, thanks for sharing
90s golden times for metal
I absolutely flipped when Still Counting by Volbeat came on and when Here To Stay played😂 Great video!🤘🎵🎶
Where is Slipknot songs?
16/50. was doing alright until about 2002 onwards lol
34/50. thought i kind of question a couple of the later songs on whether they can really be considered metal. but my wrong guesses half and half between some of the earlier years and more recent years.
Notcme getting like 6 right 😭
Over Kill ,TestamenT
Where are children of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Kalmah, Misþyrming?
the author of the channel just doesn’t know what metal music is
@@beeyouri0uyi333 true
I guess, it's hard to make a list with only one song per year. Obviously there will be folks, who will disagree (including me). But it's not a "Greatest Metal Song of the Year" list, but a "Guess the Song" list, so all is fine. Oh, and I sucked at this.
Soooo much NOT metal in here!
Anyway metal is subgenre of rock, we can call all this as rock
That was fun, thanks for making that
Great Video! What is the song at the beginning of the video?
Look at description
NO WAY VOLBEAT WAS MENTIONED , LOVE TO SEE FELLOW FANS OUT THERE
Well I suck at song titles apparently, I could identify most of the artists though
Let me get this straight, you have Limp Fu¢ks as heavy metal but not Slip Knot?
No killswitch???
13 i should have gotten more, i really need to taken notice of my collection better
20/50
44 missed a few during the grunge era then swayed back into metal properly. Seen Anthrax 9 times, just can’t decipher the seconds, weird. 2nd test i failed on them yet knowing every word.
C'mon no Lamb Of God, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, but had Breaking Benjamin, Bring me the horizon, Drop dead cynical ( who ?????? ) wtf
Only 20 wrong mostly of the 70 n 80 25 of 40 I don't even know much metal I more rock. SongPop just helped me
Why no LAMB of God???
No Alice in chains?? Jinger? In This Moment? Halestorm?
I was lost after 2012
How many times did Ronnie James Dio appear within the first 10 years listed in this video?
Funny but several times I guessed the song just looking at the year it was released, specially the old stuff
was better before 1996
37 points
I got 13 of them right. Not familiar with the 90s "metal" (Marilyn Manson crap) & so forth.
I thought I was a metal-head... I got like 6 maybe
No Killswitch? No Amon Amarth? Testament? . All in all pretty good except for a few that are not metal.
Rock & roll hall of fame is t the same anymore either
40/50
From 1982 all right
I was killing it until the 2000’s kicked in. Didn’t like much music then or now. Rock is dead. Surprised no nirvana, sound garden or Perl jam was on this…Alice in chains.
40/50 I don't understand why some people are upset, about you using metal. I never understood it, there are so many subgenres it's stupid. Why can't I just say Metal without someone having to specify actually it's hard rock or nu-metal or industrial or whatever. While I do agree with bands/songs being different I don't understand why it needs to be so important to identify it.
More like metal according to a classic rock radio station....🤷♂️
23 right
Genres and categories changed over the years . R& B is not what it used to be either anymore . It’s all been changed .
8 / 49
I'm 59 and I knew I would do pretty well from 1975-201O and I got them all (I did pause on 2). After 2010 I got Slayer and Kreator right. Then I knew about 3/4 of the bands but not the songs. I did know Bad Company by Five Finger Death Punch but I hate that F*cking band. Can they do anything besides covering songs that don't need to be butchered.
Slipknot????
I sucked at this! :D
2015 onwards have only great bands! (exception of only one band that I've never heard)
you put alot of sub genres in there
I quit after Tool Rammstein and R Zombie.....
got 24 right
How did you make a list of metal songs from 1975-2024 and not include Manowar?
Probably because they suck.
That Amaranthe rif is totaly MM Beautiful People rip off.
You guys missed a ton of heavy metal artists that were a hell a lot better than half your picks CMON lol
Almost half it was metal.
Lost me on the first hair band
11 songs acurate. But for real metal and rock differ. I guessed 7 metal and 4 rock. I'm ashamed
Google...what is hard rock?
Uuummmm where's orbit culture???
Not one mention of Japan’s hottest act, Band Maid.
it's hard rock
Motley Crue lost.
I'm sad to read comments that these song/bands should not be classified as metal - Ignorance in my opinion. Metal started with Black Sabbath in 1969 and has evolved in to many subgenres since then. If You say that any of those does not fall into any of the metal genres - then You are lost. Educate yourself before speaking/writing. I'm born in 1963 and have been a metalhead/hard rocker since early 70s - I had hard to pin both the band and the song, but I managed to nail 17 out of 50 (34%). Mainly the ones from the 70s and early 80's. I did however nail 2 from the 2000s.
les extraits sont plus courts qie la présentation ! oh c'est gaie ...
Up unitl 1986 i only missed the Rainbow song. Next one i missed was refuse Septula. Next one was fury of the storm. Never heard it but knew it was Dragonforce. Then still counting After that idc. Once Bring me the Horizon stepped in 💩
Mastodon, Slipknot, Ghost, Alice In Chains should have made an appearance.
