In my junior year of high school, I found myself in Mr. Thompson's history class. Mr. Thompson was known to be the strictest teacher in the school, and it didn't take long for me to understand why. From day one, Mr. Thompson ran his class with military precision. He demanded absolute silence when he entered the room and expected us to address him as "sir." We had to stand at attention when he spoke to us and ask for permission to do anything, even something as simple as going to the bathroom. Mr. Thompson didn't just teach us history; he instilled in us a sense of discipline and respect. He made us write essays on ancient battles and had us memorize important dates and events. If we made a mistake, he would make us drop and give him twenty push-ups as punishment. At first, I resented Mr. Thompson's strictness. I felt like I was constantly on edge, afraid to make a mistake or break a rule. But as the weeks went by, I began to see the value in his methods. I learned to pay attention to details, to take responsibility for my actions, and to work hard to earn his respect. By the end of the semester, I had a newfound appreciation for Mr. Thompson. While he may have made us feel like we were in the military, his tough love approach had molded us into better students and better individuals. I may not have always enjoyed his class, but I was grateful for the lessons he taught me.
