Toyota Fortuner Used Car Buyer's Guide - Common Problems, used car pricing, our pick of the range
In this second episode of our new Buyer's Guide series, we tackled one of the most popular cars on our roads, the Toyota Fortuner.
View all of the Fortuner stock on our site here:
www.cars.co.za/usedcars/?make...[Fortuner]&sort=date_d&P=1
Since it's debut in 2005, the Fortuner has sold in incredibly strong numbers, finding homes across the country. And that means that there is a plethora of second hand cars to choose from, with nearly 1600 available on Cars.co.za right now.
In this video we take a detailed look at the first generation Toyota Fortuner, which was on the market for a solid decade! We're talking about model years 2006 to 2016.
We cover in great detail the range of variants which were available during that 10 year period, common problems, current used car pricing and our pick of the range.
Are you in the market for a used Toyota Fortuner? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Common issue: they steal them, full stop.
I would be interested to find out the actual stats on theft. They are quite popular and Toyota sells thousands in a year. So the only way of determining if they are more likely to be stolen than other vehicles is if it were possible to get the percentage of cars on the road that are stolen. Having said that, it seems that the thieves have an eye for a quality product I don't own one, if anyone is wondering.
@@ericnaude8158it’s actually the most stolen car in South Africa it’s paired with the Hilux since it’s essentially the same car
They're really nice for the time the buyer gets to borrow them. In JHB they'd literally follow you home - it's not just opportunistic car thieves, there are syndicates with quotas to hit on Fortuner/Hilux. They also really like stealing the spare wheel...
😂
Exactly
Easily one of my new favorite series on the channel, Keep it up guys🙌
The biggest weakness which you did not mention, is the fact that these vehicles are high risk and are regularly stolen while the newer versions are hijack material, would never put my family in one…
But that’s not Toyotas problem, that’s Mandelas problem
Got one in the yard, 2009 model 3.0 D4D bought from new. Just turned 150 000kms a few weeks ago. Full Service History from NEW!!! Never been stuck!
Great content. Please give us more of this series. I propose that you should prioritize popular/top-selling cars just like you've done with the FORTUNER. Good innovation!!!!!!!
Love this series! Could you do an episode on the Ford Everest and Ranger?
So informative. Ciro releasing bangers at this stage👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Many people still have the first generation Fortuner and a few facelifts here and there... But the new one is amazing to drive but many people are scared to buy one because they get stolen daily.
I dont think many are afraid of buying it if the extremely high volumes Toyota sells every month (it's the second highest selling vehicle in SA) is anything to go by
My dad bought this car in 2013, a Black one with all the features. It is now around 600 000Km and still runs like a new car, this is an amazing car, it is a D4D. The issues it had were just the Clutch which happened around 500,000 km, and some oil issues, It is serviced almost every month just to mention that.
Servicing every month? Doesn’t sound like a car that runs like new
@@fezilemkohli6844meaning they do 10k km per month. Not that it’s decolonized every month
If it’s serviced every month, it may be losing too much oil, an indication of severe engine wear. Earliest maintenance should be at least 3 months, 6 months on average (or 5k miles).
@@adonespitogonaifprobaby doing 10k km a month thus the monthy servicing
Big fan of this new series!
Brilliant review and informative 👏
I love this series. Please keep it going, it really helps alot
Great to hear, thank you! You can definitely expect many more
Great stuff, very informative
Man - I was captivated throughout this entire episode! Your charisma and connection with your viewer is tangible. Nice! Looking forward to the next episode....
Awesome! Thank you! So glad to hear this, we appreciate it
The subject on auto vs/or manual transmission would have been interesting to hear Ciro. Nonetheless, great addition to the channel - thank you.
Thank you for this.❤ been on the market for one and this is very helpful
Hi, I have one for sale, let me know if you interested. 2014 3ltr D4D auto with 95000km full service with Toyota
Great video, thanks! I'm from Costa Rica, most of the time there's a lot of content out there for several cars IF they reached the US market, hard to find otherwise, so this was great to come across, deciding if I'm changing my 2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD 5VZ for one of these 2009 onwards!
Loving this new series. Please do Honda CR-V next.
Thanks for this. Everest next?❤
The fortuner 2.5 d4d 2013 model my best car ever with no issues. SAC do a remaping with a performamce exaust a couple years ago and what was a real game changer with better performamce and exelent feul consumption
I can't wait to see you do this for the BMW 3 series
Best channel and presenter ever mooi so man
Brilliant presentation. Many thanks.
Great to hear, thank you for watching
Awesome video and this review is really helpful as I'm in the market for one after this video I just made up my mind to buy between a 2014 or 2015 model 😊thank you very much
Glad we could help! Wishing you many happy miles
Same het, i am in the market for that and i am now sold for looking at 2014 upwards models@@Carscoza
Great addition to the channel this series! A fantastic "all rounder"......UNDISPUTED at that, but the "risk attached" ownership experience has always been too off-putting IMHO. Some of the alternate option mentions are well worth a look instead, providing one would be willing to forego a bit of the "Toyata reliability" Looking forward to the next one in this series guys! 👌
Spot on!
Hi. Thanks for the update on the fortuner. Can it be possible to have a buyers guide in know more details about vw kombi please 🙏
Would love to hear about the fortuner GD6 engine
Thank you great content as always but l think it's time there was D-4D vs GD6 comparison
Awesome!
Great review! 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
That 3.0 D4d is extremely reliable I still love the Hilux 3.0 d4d 💯✊✊✊✊
I sold my 2010 Fortuner (upgrade, but not facelift yet - bigger rims/tyres and stability added) with 439 000 km on the clock and it was still 100%,i`m sure it could easily do another 400 000km! Now i have a Hilux 3.0D4d 4x4 with 135 000 km and it will never be sold! IMHO, most of the roll-over of the early version were caused by people towing too heavy caravans/trailers and add to that incorrect tyre pressures.
We still have the first generation 2006 3.0D4D over 300k and counting only replaced the injectors wasn’t urgent but still so lively and solid. The “rolling” issue was rear shocks they were single action shocks not dual Toyota would not declare this just replace with Monroe’s. Will never sell it, nice to keep around.
I take it you haven't heard of the "moose test" they performed with the Hilux...
@@donsicariofx Yes but We are still able to drift Fortuners despite them failing that test
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Please add information about running costs of fuel and maintenance.
Please review VW polo 2017 - Present
I love this, wish u would do them more often. So I was on ur app and I realised that the previous gen ford ranger raptor is about the same price as a base current Gen Ford ranger, which one would be the better buy?
Please hit like so they can make more of these 😅
We’ve had one in the family for 17 years. It’s a v6 4.0 powered fortuner with 380000km. No engine work done
the math is not mathing
Keep the series going, love it. How about Amarok for one of the slots?
Good idea! Up next, Golf Mk7 GTI
I just saw a 4liter v6 Fortuner with 200k kms on the clock, whats your takes on it.
Great review, unfortunately vehicles this size at this fuel prize, plus the purchase 😮prizes are a huge facet of affordability, but good review
Do GTI next
D4D very good engineering. Mine has 455000km
@Ciro would you recommend the 4 speed auto?
Had them all manual and Auto. The Auto has the edge
I dont understand why you did not cover the Gen2 models?
Mitsubishi pajero and Toyota Fortuner comparison the much better in modern feature is Mitsubishi pajero ultimate driving performance at urban road and offroad for Toyota Fortuner it only better at torque in offroad, both Japanese car is very practical daily use, easier to maintain repair and modification
I find my Fortuner a good all round vehicle. It does most things reasonably well but is not outstanding at anything except reliability. My 3 litre Grand Cherokee was significantly more powerful and comfortable. The fact that a Fortuner is a big theft/hijack risk is also somewhat concerning
Rather get a Pajero Sport especially the 3.2DID, they are just as reliable, they also mostly come in 4x4 for many selling for well under R200k. Oh yes…and they don’t steal them.😎
So to resume get a 2014/2015 Fortuner, 3.0L D4D engin 4x4 powertrain, right?
Yes, but I would even say anything with those same specs after 2009
Please do a buyer’s guide for Prado V6 2005 models
Never steal them!!... not entirely true, I know of two people who got theirs stolen!
Had a look at the Fortuner but settled on a 2013 Forester XT. It is my second Forester I find it just delivers better all round value for money for me and at 177KW and 350NM of torque it has Fortuner like performance but still pretty frugal at the pump and easy to get to the the claimed 8.5 l/100km.
Though it is smaller by a big margin, I think the Forester is a very good vehicle who is giving far more driver satisfaction than a Fortuner.
Go for a brand new Mahindra Scorpio N. Fantastic vehicle
Polo vivo buyers guide please team😢
Love this car bt I'm afraid to buy it 😢
LoL because they will still it or hijack it
Bro im with you, My father's was taken and found but we have permanently lost 2 Toyotas in the past already to theft so Im with you, Lovely cars but wow the theft is just extreme
Ford Everest
On these cars you need an aftermarket suspension.
WOW!! Never knew it was a 4-speed auto! Sheesh!!
2.5 auto with black interior is the winner .
hi there, i can't find the video about vw tiguan
Here you go! kzhead.info/sun/hpxshNl-lpmbp3k/bejne.htmlsi=lyss5nig2TE_QPcg
L have 2018
It is really a shame that the manufacturers listen to motoring journalists comments on interior colours. Black shows up dust and another colour is preferable in my opinion.
120kW? That's robbery.
Mine sits on 450k eish
The never die car
Hi mate please cover the used amarok v6
or you can just buy a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
How to pay as much insurance as possible, get two trackers, and still get hijacked. You are mad to buy any of these.
😂😂
Day 2 of asking for a Golf 7 gti & R buyers guide🙏
They are in the works, fear not.
Can't wait!@@Borsitheblade
Toyota car driving performance not very agile handling sterling like mitsubishi car very very good driving performance
Theft and hijackings of these vehicles. We cant buy what we want because of the criminals. But good initiative on these videos. Keep doing more. Do about the renault suv range please.
Great content but toyota yho nightmares hijack stolen 😢😢😢
4x4 was part time 4x4 not full time as mentioned.
Wrong! they're full time 4wheel drive
3.0 d4d and 4.0 V6 came out with 4 speed manual not 5 speed.
4 speed auto. 5 speed manual
Lovely reliable car but car thiefs and hijackers have made it a no no for me , So in conclusion , common problems brazen theft of it and hijacked at gunpoint
Fortuners are such high risk vehicles that it's borderline irresponsible to even consider one, especially if you plan on putting people you love into them.
That’s the problem with Mandela
