Handling Carmen, my gentle Poecilitheria metallica.
The Gooty ornamental tree spider.
Ths spider is highly venomous so always be very careful,
she is a sweetheart though, most of the time :)
0:54 I love how it’s swinging it’s legs like it’s trying to gain balance like a drunkenman
For an old world tarantula, she's pretty chill.
Except when she´s not.. that´s the problem with old worlds, they can be very unpredictable
In my experience, Pokies (except for the Ornata) aren't as defensive as other Old Worlds are.
@@arachnokitty8058 will it really bite you if its just crawling on you i have one but people been saying dont handel it i handled a few T before
Balls of steel very beautiful turantula I'm looking to get one here soon
I guess the algo's trying to get me to look at huge spoods, which is cool because I love seeing huge spoods. She is gorgeous.
Oh my gossshhhhh so curious! What a baby...💜 I love her so much
Absolutely amazing!
Beautiful P. Metallica. I recently got one and she (I'm pretty sure it's a female) is pretty chill, but I have noticed she can bolt if scared. Some Old Worlds have a deserved bad reputation for being defensive, but Pokies (except for the Ornata) in my experience are calmer and less prone to biting, but I would advise very strongly against handling them.

Ive watched tons of tarantula videos not only with our terrific group of people leading the way like Tom Moran,Richard Stewart,Alex,Kat,Beasty Dave, and Petko but regular Tarantula keepers. As a snake keeper for over 55+ years, there are huge discrepancies in how T keepers address their spiders. The results obtained by the folks mentioned above and the relationships they enjoy with their T's is from gently, tenderly, methodically, manipulating, their spiders. There is no jabbing, stabbing at, muscling their spiders. To get the results these folks get with their animals is directly due to establishing a non threatening relationship in ALL facets of spider keeping. Why is it that the supposed insidious reputation of H macs,OBT's,Pokies, etc is not seen in videos of rehousings or feedings with the above folks. Last night I watched Dave of "Daves Little Beasties" rehouse about 6 Tarantulas into new, larger enclosures. Whats notable is these spiders were sent to him by another keeper so Dave had little or no knowledge of their individual behaviours. There was no banging the cages,no jabbing the Ts with metal or wood just methodically easing the spiders over. As a result,no temper tantrums,no threat postures,no Daytona circlings, etc. And this has been replayed many times with Tom, Richard,Alex,Petko, and Kat. Maybe,if we are just too afraid of the animal and it is reflected in how we interact with them, then maybe large spiders arent for us. Maybe a Ball python,a Bearded dragon or box turtle is best. The goal of the keeper should always be to try to develop a trust relationship on a daily basis with our house guest.
WoW! So if there's anything I really respect, it's the temprament of my Poecilotheria. I prefer something more cuddly like an Avicularia.
What a stunner man

Your spider is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
If u ever get bitten by her.. u would never ever handle a spider in ur life again hahaha
I got bite from adult Pokie Regalis 10 days ago. My first bite from T ever))) First 2 days i felt like i was smashed by the train and couldn't even walk, and even stand up from my bed was almost impossible. Every muscle was hurt, spasming and cramping. Now it's better. Hands and legs still hurt a little bit, but in general it's ok. To be honest, i thought it gonna be much worse. But still it is not the most pleasant experience that i had)))
@@zakkman wow Sound like u had corona 😅 Except that spasm and cramp.. but yeah a very toxic spider can give u a experience similar to a flu I had my pleasure with a P. Murinus 3 months ago 🤣
@@N0RFUS no, i had the corona experience in september, different feelings :))) Wow! Murinus experience is interesting too, i suppose :)))
Although any OW can be dangerous, the p. met. notoriously delivers a “dry” bite when threatened. Not to say it is always the case but still a fact. I have a 1 year old and so far has been fairly docile. Oddly enough, my Seemanni the daughter of satan. I swear she just waits for me to open her enclosure and she bolts out of her hide and tosses up a mean threat pose.
Beautiful girl!
Where can I find some nice bark for the terrarium everything I found so far seems small

Absolutely stunning footage! Is it okay if we us a short section of this clip in our upcoming video? You will be credited. Thanks!
Go ahead:)
@@arachnokitty8058 Thank you!
Amazingly beautiful and fascinating I have a Wolf Spider, Hogna Carolininensis. She just had babies. I released most of them, but am saving some to breed. It is an incredible process to behold. She nurtured her egg sac for nearly 40 days!!!
No, DO NOT DO THAT!! NEVER RELEASED DOMESTICATED ANIMALS INTO THE WILD-- *EVER*! AND IF IT WAS WILD, YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER BE HOUSING WILD SPIDERS AS PETS! Take this comment seriously.
A two week old sling is not a domesticated animal!!! Spider slings naturally leave their mothers and balloon into the wind shortly after they have left the mother's back in the case of lycosids!!! Your statements are completely misinformed.
@@sparassidae8938 My studies are showing that they are already domesticated at 2 weeks, but I can check again.
Lycosid slings have different rates of leaving the mother's back to balloon. Some do it in a week and some leave the mother's care as late as 14 days. The key is that when they disperse completely from the mother, they must either be separated into individual cups to prevent cannibalism or allowed to balloon.
@@LucidityVR Chill, bro. She clearly knows what she's doing. Or he.
And to think a red knee tarantula is even more calm.
Very true, my red knee Daisy is an absolute gem
She’s beautiful and I think pokies don’t deserve the reputation, almost every one I have observed has been calm and non aggressive or even very defensive. But...PLEASE DONT COPY THIS especially if you are a novice keeper. 😉 ps love the enclosure
ive got a good few pokies, 6 with 3 more on the way. so far ive found the tirgra is the most chill and the p regalis has the worse attitude

How do you know when you can handle them without them being angry?
i sense its intellect
the males of these are gorgeously bright blue all throughout the body. these are so pretty but not good for beginners.
She is beutiful
I want one so much but they are so frigging fast and if a breeze blows wrong they’re up your arm and on your face quicker than you can say boo to a goose--long before you can do anything to stop them. Then you get to sit there for a while and try not to shit yourself while you figure out how to get genie back into the metaphorical bottle without pissing off the blue demon currently clinging to your face. Worst part is that 90% it will be your face they go for, because its the highest point on your body unless you raise your arms and they’re arboreal which means that to them, higher is better. Nope. No thanks.
Dude I'm scared to hold my new world brachy but damn you can hold a old world it's crazy but sick tho awesome
Ask anyone educated and they will tell you to not handle your tarantulas. There are very few occurrences where it is okay to hold them. From my experience, brachys can be super docile most of the time, but even as new worlds, I have seen my fair share of brachys that have the temperament of a Thailand Black. Just don't hold them.
@@LucidityVR I had a B.Boimie ( I'm butchering the spelling) It would threat display all the time and slap the container walls. What a demon. lol
How you are sure that this spider will not bite ? Or you are not sure ? Just risking ?
You can´t be sure EVER, so yeah just risking..
👌👏👏
I am beginner my pmet is 1 inche can inch's handle him/her when she/he grow up? In juvy size
Well you CAN handle your spider at any size, but the risk stays the same. Small spiders are just as venomous as adult larger specimens of the same species, they just carry a little less venom. So should you handle a spiderling or juvenile.. I would say.. NO The reason why is because smaller spiders are generally more easilly frightened, and they are harder to read... I have handled this particular spider because she was remarkedly chill that day. Having said that, I still made a HUGE gamble.. Had she bit me I would have been in a world of hurt...
No. No benefit to the animal and as Arachno Kitty says you get bitten and you are going to very deeply regret it.
I am very surprised, this is about the third handling video I have seen of P. Metallica. Is it me or are they quite docile for an old world.
dealing with my arachnaphobia one day at a time but I enjoy these videos more and more and started handling spiders at my home without a sweat (handling = putting them outside gently) ... my phobia was x-fer by my mom but slowly I studied them and learned how gentle they are most of the time.. not ready to handle a Dolomedes yet or a tarantula
I was exactly the same and now own 14 tarantulas. I don't handle for the safety of the animal, but it helped me greatly to overcome my fears. Knowledge is the death of fear.
Not a smart move to hold these species of tarantula but, beautiful.
I’m thinking of getting the p metallica as my first. I don’t plan on handling it like you do though lol. Any thoughts?
Well my official advice will always be, do not handle your tarantula´s ! Now that that´s out of the way, I do handle mine on occasion. P. metallica is generally pretty chill for an old world, especially compared to the other Pocies. But they can be unpredictable, and their venom hits HARD! Harder than most old worlds even.. Do NOT underestimate that fact.. I have handled this one as you can see here but so far this has happened once.. Now as far as buying an old world as a first tarantula you could definately do worse that this beautiful species.. P. metallica is a shy species, they can give a good threatpose from time to time but nothing compared to the rattle snake like ferocity you get to deal with when you piss off a P. murinus or a C. lividus. They will bite you 3 times before you even realize it was moving towards your hand..
Don t get it as a first T. In general you shouldn t start with an old world, especially if it is the most venomous T in the world. Get a new world, there are plenty to chose from, and after you get used to keeping tarantulas you can get old words
Get a new world for your first unless you've been around these & know what you're doing, pokies bites hit hard as well I've got a few different pokies and they can put obts to shame with the attatude
@@arachnokitty8058 Damn you got bit by this tarantula?
I have the curly hair, costarican stripe knee and my p. Bohemi. I would recommend the fireleg first. They are really calm but they get really fiesty when feeding time comes. Or the curly hair because of their docile nature.
Nice dude I handle all my pokies as well including my big female Metallica
Terrarium size?
This one is 20 x 20 x 30 cm which was too small for an arboreal spider this size, but it was only a temporary since I allready had the enclosure, she's living in a habistat enclosure now 30 x 30 x 45 cm which you can see in this video kzhead.info/sun/atiLlKivfXaaaKs/bejne.html
There are really people looking to be bitten
Epic
If I was a spider, I would like more room to stretch my legs! I don't understand why people keep them in such small spaces.
Agreed, this was a temporary setup. She was in there for a couple weeks. She’s in this now. kzhead.info/sun/atiLlKivfXaaaKs/bejne.html
@@arachnokitty8058 I always thought a wider tank would be better than a tall tank? they don't really venture far from home?
@@zodiac6968 This little lady is arboreal, they live in the trees. A taller enclosure with a little climbing verticality gives her the option to feel high and safe if she wants too
@@arachnokitty8058 Ah! ok, thanks for the info, incredible looking spider.
Although tarantulas don't have too much brain capacity, they have enough the be stressed if their tank is too wide and/or tall. Especially if you have a large tank in general with almost no cover and burrow at all, their stress levels SKY ROCKET. In fact, tarantulas can die from too much stress, and that amount of stress is easy to get to if you don't have the right set up. The terrarium in this video is a bit too small, but a few more inches in width and length and that tarantula would be perfect in relation to stress levels.
Thats an ornamental tarantula and its venomous
I am aware of the risk:)
Every spider is venomous.
@@derspielographdsg7435 pfttt no
I understand you know that they are very venomous but even just taking out the water dish with your bare hand- even when they are in their burrow/hide, is super dangerous. I've been studying tarantulas for a while now, and it doesn't take a beginner long to know just how dangerous a P. Metallica's bite can be, even to someone who is not allergic. I do not control your actions, but I can definitely suggest something. Please do you and the tarantula a favor, and do not ever handle handle any tarantula that you don't know for sure is in a great mood- not to mention the fact that you shouldn't really be handling tarantulas at all, *especially* those from the Poecilotheria genus.
Mkk
Next: Dropping and killing my expensive, rare blue spider over a hard surface, that shouldn't be handled anyway, to demonstrate what you shouldn't do.
This species is arboreal, light on her abdomen and about half a feet over the table, dont worry she´s safe...
Obviously the venom has been removed
And by doing that sentencing my beautiful spider to starvation? Why on earth would you think that?
Rediculous comment. "Removing" a tarantula's venom isn't like the venom glands of a snake and the procedure would kill them. On top of that, whilst it's potent venom for a tarantula, it basically just causes lasting pain and discomfort. So not everyone is going to be scared of handling one let alone fabricate stories as to why someone else would.
Uh you can't remember spider venom like a snake since it's not a gland unless you cut in half and it dies
Nice color but no thanks
You crazy
How?
