don’t get discouraged by the fact that your 3D stuff has to create value right at the beginning of your jurney.. in my “portfolio“ i have ton of stuff that is not obvious to the viewer to see the value in it but for me it’s important to have them as some sort of milsestones I can rewatch any time to see the progress I made. Another big point is: never underestimate where you can be after some years of experience in the field -this you won’t know at the beginning! ..and if you decide too quick to develop in a certain direction you porbably won‘t be flexible to change into another niche. This actually happened to me so be aware that you need to reinvent yourself all the time.. it‘s a never ending process. Acquiring new skills and try out new stuff is the best you can do, it brings fulfillment and you can explore your artistic side. I been doing a lot of stuff lately that didn't really contribute to my financial outcome BUT I have been able to develope and that's something that brings new wind.. Once you have enough money to make a living as an artist u either think how you can scale up to make more money or in my case: explore new stuff in the 3D field

Hi regarding timelines & deadlines how do you handle it? I'm experimenting to see if I could actually build a portfolio and the first project took me a month(It was composed of 3 different shots though. An animated commercial , but I think the final quality isn't something I would like to showcase to potential clients due to bad lighting mostly) . Would a client ever wait for a month for you to finish a project? Rendering alone might take a week and then you have post production with music and sound editing

Be up front on how long it will take you to finish the project. Some clients might be find waiting a month, others might want to be a lot sooner. As for portfolio, I would pick smaller projects to finish at first. Even if it's not for a client, you can still have it part of your portfolio. @@athinasdesigns

Interesting video, I have been thinking of doing a job as a VFX artist which will take time but starting off slowly is the best option. This video has good tips for starting off which I am thankful for.

I'm not a complete beginner anymore, but this was definitely a helpful video. Thinking about the job as selling something rather than as creating 3d art is useful for informing what to make for a portfolio.

Interesting video 👍. It would be great to go into further details on value generating renders. I kind of see what you mean by that but it’d be useful to get more of your thinking process. And I agree with you, it’s about selling something, what is being sold isn’t relevant, the problem the customer wants to solve is the main point. Keep up the nice videos !
