To the untrained eye, this could seem like your run-of-the-mill gaming monitor, but with a high refresh rate, QD-OLED, 1440p resolution, quick response times, and amazing colour accuracy, it's hard to find a complete package better than this. Is Linus ready to "downgrade"?

How do you like it?
@@todamoonjoey I never got it. I currently have AW2723DF. I love it. I wanted to upgrade, but Dell were being douchebags when I discovered a crack on my side-panel. So they don't want to exchange or repair/return my current one. I also won't be going with a Dell monitor anymore since this whole debacle. I'd rather buy from a company like AOC that has excellent customer service.
That Microsoft account lock thing has been the bane of my existence in IT for a few years now. Our Active Directory account can get locked out at the "Azure" level, but not the Active Directory level, and there is NOTHING we can do as IT.
IT Systems Manager here. That doesn’t make a lot of sense if you’re using a hybrid infrastructure with on prem DCs and Azure. It’ll only lock out an the AAD/Entra level if it trips conditional access for risky sign ins or someone manually blocks it from sign in (which happens anyway if it gets blocked in on prem and syncs to Entra). I like a problem though, I can try and help if you can explain what happens. All that’s happening in this video is Linus types the wrong password too many times lol
I mean in the video Linus said it locked him out after inputting the wrong password once
So glad I don't have to deal with all that, I have a custom Windows 8.1 enterprise pro on my main gaming rig, it isn't bare metal like a console OS, but it's a whole lot closer, it cuts the memory footprint down by 90%, increases frame-times (latency) by a massive margin, has much better minimum frames, and average FPS is 15-30% higher, I also use a remote terminal from a home server with 384Gb of RAM and a RAM-Drive over 100 GB fibre for super low latency internet browsing, I never have to worry about malware, spyware, virus's on my gaming rig, and internet browsing doesn't eat up all my RAM, no memory leaking either which is nice.
@@NecroMorrius Don't forget someone using the "No, it's not me" response from Authenticator can cause an instant lockout or elevation to high risk state, depending on the tenant settings. It's all much more inscrutable for personal Microsoft Accounts though, which is the more probable account type to have a Game Pass subscription.
@@Wobble2007 Your Windows 8.1 is also an unpatched security disaster since the support ended a year ago.
Could some of your cameramen make a video about the colour space naming themes and how they are measured? Nice always to get the stats, but I don't personally understand the gamut space. Thanks!
Yup, I'd definitely be into this - maybe a series of videos breaking down different standards they cover in product testing once Labs is past the "getting started" phase. I understand a lot of them but definitely not all of them, and the color accuracy stuff is one I'm clueless about for sure lol.

Is the black not being perfectly black a problem for your work?
@@AemilianaRosewood Funnily enough the work I do 80% of the time would actually be potentially affected by this as I'm a deep sky astrophotographer, so a lot of the imagery has deep black areas. That said, for basically all the other content I work on, it's likely not a problem in the real world. It would be interesting to see though! As time goes on, I just hope high refresh rate + creative professional specs just become one.
@@BBROPHOTO They probably will, especially considering display manufacturers are trying to lean into one "ultimate" display, where it has the upside of every panel technology without any of the downsides (basically OLED but without the burn in) which is super exciting.

As someone who recently downloaded Halo and had to go through all the troubleshooting to login which finally culminated in deleting gibberish from the credential manager, it's so validating to see Linus go through it
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M not sure since I haven’t used that (I’m not a huge gamer tbh) but it’s preeeeetty damn janky. I mean I didn’t even know there was a windows credential manager before this! Had to get into the weeds.
My problems using the MS account while playing halo has made me swear off ever playing another Microsoft account requiring game or software
6:50 Linus if it makes you feel any better, the latest Windows 10 1-9-2024 Security update breaks on a lot of computers because it requires a larger recovery partition, which by default on Windows is ~500MB. The workaround is to run a bunch of commands to resize it because MS’s built-in partition disks doesn’t allow you to move the start of a partition
Those commands you run are using MS' built-in partition tools. Just not the gui tools.
How can anyone recommend using Windows when it's so obviously broken? I've had it with Microsoft's incompetence.
I already know this is going to be a huge headache for me at work
Something I find really annoying about the recovery partition is that they put it at the end of the drive. Every time I had to upgrade someone's SSD (or increase the disk size inside a VM), I had to type some magic commands to deal with that stupid partition. If the recovery partition was first and the system partition second, I would only need to resize the system partition when swapping the drives, which can be done with the partition manager built into Windows.
@@chibicitiberiu the recovery partition used to go before the OS partition during the Windows 8 days, but MS changed the behavior on Windows 10 to the current one, so it can be grown easier (if required). Windows will simply shrink the OS partition and create a bigger recovery partition at the end whenever necessary, if it were before the OS partition, you'd be screwed...
Tip for next time Linus, you can see your accuracy in Halo by going to the scoreboard tab after the match and arrowing over a few pages.
Just got mine yesterday. I can't physically explain how insane this monitor is...even coming from a previous 360hz IPS Panel. It's absolutely mind boggling how fast and beautiful this display is. 10/10 for this review.

I just upgraded my TV to a LG G3 last year & OLED is amazing. I'm still waiting for a good reason to upgrade my Acer Predator 27" 165Hz computer monitor though. I don't play FPS so I don't know if I care about super high framerates but I do love inky blacks. I want good contrast at relatively low brightness. This tech looks pretty close to being ready but as long as screen-burn is still an issue that has to be actively managed, I don't think it's worth pulling the trigger yet.
Predator 27" XB271HU owner here. After 8.5 years of flawless service... mine finally died the other day... So I'm looking at these Samsung QD-OLED v3 panels as an upgrade 👍
exactly, as long as burn in is an issue, there's no point. A desktop will always have several static elements that can cause burn in
Did you use the default "Creator Mode" with 2.2 Gamma for the color measurements or the Standard on the 27" ? And when you check for SDR color accuracy do you set the gamut from DCI-P3 to sRGB or were the tests done for SDR with DCI-P3 gamut ?
This! I don't know how and why would you not specify that. The results are basically meaningless out of context. No EOTF measurements as well...
Yes! I waited for this review after recognition of both alien wäre monitors in your former review to Samsungs QD OLED Review! 😄
Ironic im watching this while working and I'm in credential manager hell trying to fix a onedrive issue. I feel your pain Linus.
2023 in my mind is the first year since we tossed CRT to the side that we FINALLY have monitors that are comparable in motion clarity. Up until now I always thought CRT was superior in every way except foot print. I am currently gaming on a 55" s95c and it is FAR from perfect for use as a monitor but I cannot go back to anything not oled. I am 100% buying an oled monitor either this year or next... whenever I can get either a 1440p 480hz QD or potentially the 240hz 4k that can do 1080p 480hz (tho I am sad its w oled and not 1440p for the 480hz mode)
What's the notebook at 7:26? Is the cable sticking upwards a charging/power cable? Is the slit on the side of the screen a vent? Not a disc thingie, surely...
tnx for muting the background music - much better volume level then in videos before
This may be my next display. But not for a few years when the price comes down. I really like the idea of a great gaming monitor but also has really accurate colors. It's always a pain to try and calibrate them to get them as close as possible with photos that I want to print.
Probably can get it the next Black Friday for 600-700$ of next year when new models comes out. So it´s coming, the monitor revolution, but GPU cannot keep up.
If you plan on waiting a few years, then whatever's new will probably be better for cheaper by then. Screen quality only goes up, and screen cost only goes down. Hell, CES 2024 had shown the first QDEL display, and if it can hit comparable brightness/fps, then it'd EASILY be the best display type by a long shot. Given a year or two, it could completely replace LCD, WOLED, and QD-OLED.

Been using this monitor for 2 weeks now, It's frikkin amazing, A very well thoughtful upgrade from my Asus VG27AQL1A Linus messed up the unboxing tho, the instructions were pretty clear, Remove the stand, Insert to the back, And lift the monitor out of the box, Put it on the table Then remove the protective panel of the screen You don't want to scratch your monitor on the table Anyway, the best thing is definitely motion clarity and response time which is the BIGGEST update. HDR and image quality depends on games
What's it like on lower fps games, still worth it?
@andysPARK yeah, it runs great with my ps5 at 60fps + VRR, no issues. Lower fps games usually are story / narrative driven, hence the visuals usually are a step above competitive games. Add with response time which is 3x faster than LEDs , it's an amazing experience
would this not be recommended for a photo video editing monitor / music production using pro tools software for music?
This monitor is so good it makes Linus Sebastian good at games! - Alienware marketing team, probably .
I am playing singleplayer games but also fps games lile the finals and apex. What should i buy? The 32 inch 4k oder 27 inch 2k version. Any advice?

Depends what GPU CPU
In Halo Infinite, on the results screen, just press E twice or click where it says Scoreboard at the top to see all your stats.
Do these monitors disconnect when turning them off, or do they stay connected? (It's a displayport design flaw that has been a major issue for the last 15 years or so) I need to leave my computer on most of the time, and if the screen "disconnects", some software etc. crashes or outright can't start in an automated fashion due to the operating system not seeing anywhere to draw the application. Obviously leaving and OLED on 24/7 for years just so stuff doesn't crash wouod be... pretty bad for burn-in :P
Actually having an oled plugged in all the time is the recommended way to use it. When it's on standby it runs various pixel refresh jobs to prevent burnin.
the text fringing has always been a deal breaker for me. i know the sponsered one was talking it "down" but it is sponsered, i sat with the Alienware 27" previous OLED MLA, and it was unusable for me for desktop work, it was like the old Chrome 4:2:0 days, that bad, and i KNOW it is windows handling of the subpixel layout, but i don´t care, i have to live with it.
Hi, some people reported intense eye strain using this monitor. Is there any way the labs team maybe can run some tests like a spectrum analysis to get to the bottom of this. Or maybe test the same monitor with different people. Symptoms have been reported after just a few hours of usage.
You can see the spectral distribution at TFT Central. Doesn't look alarming. Nothing special vs most other displays. On the contrary, it's remarkably even. I have no idea what may be causing that issue and that worries me a lot.
I was waiting for this Linus. Thank you
glad we are finally getting companies to make high refresh monitors at a resolution that current gpus can actually use those refresh rates
I may be a bit of a nitpick, but the purple tint that's shown on this QD-OLED panel is a bit of a turn-off for me. The 3 year burn-in warranty though, holy cow. Maybe the purple tint thing with the QD-OLED panels can be improved upon on later generations of the QD-OLED technology? Anyway, there's the upcoming LG 27" 1440p 480hz WOLED panel to look forward to, but can it match the 3 year burn-in warranty of this panel?

@@bmo_preme9507The down side is that’s an additional cost. Not saying it might not be worth it but it is an extra VS dell having 3 years at the retail price.
Like linus said, it's a QD-OLED panel quirk. And only really visible if u shine a bright light at it. If it's on or off in a semi-dark spot (as in no direct light on it) you would not notice it
Looks like Dell still uses the "protective" foam on the panel that actually scratches it.

Unbelievable... I specifically came to this video to look for what material they were using this time and it's the same as the DW/DWF.
I couldn't believe it either. I'll be getting the asus

1440p is the best resolution period imo. it's sharp enough for me to really appreciate the detail of an image, video, game environment, or even a 3d render, but not too demanding for the graphics card that it start to hurt your productivity
But 1440p is so ugly compared to 4K resolution. And the jump from 240hz to 360hz is not that massive.
@@Shadowsmoke11Depends on the screen size. At 27 it’s minimal. Starting at 32 and up 4k becomes better.

A 3 year no burn-in warranty? ...Well, OK then, colour me interested. @@sven957If you're lucky?!?! If there is a 3 year guarantee I would guess that they last for longer than that so that Alienware doesn't have to replace all of them in 3 years
I dont think burn in is nearly as big a problem as people make it out to be. Phones have had much brighter OLEDs with almost exclusively static content for years, yet we almost never hear about burn-in being an issue at all.
@@sven957 It depends on the product and use case. I have a triple monitor setup and I'm solely eyeing up this monitor tech to replace my primary monitor, but I'm still gonna keep my other 2 newer ones. Hell, one of my 3 monitors is a refurbished 120hz TN panel I never bothered to replace because it's a secondary monitor. While OLED tech has come a long way, I really want to see more progress in the mini-LED monitor market. I hate the thought of a $900 monitor becoming borderline unusable in 3 years due to burn-in and general panel degradation. Obviously it's not a big issue with gaming or movie watching, but my PC does it all and that makes OLED not viable as static elements will burn-in to the display over time and no doubt it will lose brightness in an attempt to maintain panel uniformity.

If you will have a slightly prime tint, isn't that going to affect color critical work? How can you get such a good delta E if you can never achieve true blacks?
Did he lay the screen flat on the table? What is the world coming to? Linus.... we don't deserve this 😭
THIS! I've been waiting for OLED to mature into a great FPS gaming monitor. It's already listed on their website, someone hide my wallet please!!!!!
I mean, there were great 1440p/240Hz OLEDs last year. It's not like 240Hz is bad for FPS games. I'm personally fine with 144Hz, but more is obviously better.
My wallet was horribly assaulted today
@@zurnar1000 hopefully you and your wallet feel better when you’re basking in the glow of your new OLED!!
They got my money earlier today. I just couldn’t resist
@@TomiplyMatte coating/woled. It needed improvements, and now we have it.
Is this the thing Linus couldn't talk about in Wan Show the other day/week(?) when he said something about his performance improving because of some new tech he got his hands on? I was wondering if it was something as game changing as the switch from controllers to mouse and keyboard.
Is that a rainbow colored mouse what I am supposed to make of that?
Seeing Linus not suck at Halo Infinite is probably the best promotional material for this monitor.
Wish they would make a 27" OLED monitor that isn't 360hz so I can actually afford it, even last year's 240hz option is still $900 here in UK. If they made it QHD 120hz / 4K 60hz at $600 I'd buy it in a heartbeat
wait for the new generation to release before complaining about the previous ones price
It doesnt cost them anything to make it higher refresh
would aleast have to wait a couple of years for oled to drop to 500$ price point
@dvlx8453 yea probably but if gets to even $700, thats not bad
@@Frozoken Alienware's Ultrawide is often under $700, but the much smaller 27" is way more expensive. Really doesn't make sense
I know this is a monitor review, but what keyboard is that? i like the way it clickity-clacks
Attention to those in charge of sound on this video. This video is making my subwoofers go crazy. Every slight movement Linus makes, every "pop" sound coming from Linus' voice, and every thump of the table is coming though. Hoping this is a one off. But please look into this for future videos.
0:45 While I'm sure it's a great display, the fact that it has raised blacks INSIDE THE BOX is a deal breaker for me. I want black, not purple.
I don't understand leaving out a 3.5 mm jack for those of us wanting to hook up a PC and 2 consoles, especially to the 32" 4k model
Imagine not using wireless headphones in 2024. I feel like I play so much better without a cable in the way. I've actually lost several kills because of the cable moving around at bad moments, so I can't go back personally.
Bro, those 3.5mm jacks that come with the monitors are terrible. Even the PS5 controller's 3.5mm headphone jack sounds better
Is it just me, or were there no 2nd gen qd-oled monitors? There was 1st gen. Then 2nd gen was announced a year ago, but I never saw any products released. Now we have 3rd gen products already?
hey does anyone know when these will be available at best buy?
This is cool and all but you can get this one at 165 HTz for $360??? Holy crap that’s a good price!! Same color accuracy and everything for under $500? And the 280 HTz is only $600….
not exactly the specs change up when choosing a different option... LOL
That‘s not a qd oled monitor lol
Those are completely different monitors look at the other options after you change one of them
"QHD? Sounds like 4K for poor people" 😂

how about confortview plus?? Does it messes colors?? You cannot turn it off!
I'd trade 360Hz for HDR1000 any day. Otherwise amazing monitor!
Except it can actually do 1000 nits at 1%, 2% and 4% window for HDR highlights, 10% window is about 600 nits. They got instead certification for HDR 400 True Black for better color accurcy and save on cost I think.
@@KryssN1 cool. Makes sense, but as they say on this channel. If it's HDR600 it's barely HDR, 400.. it's not 😃

I'm really interested in the 32-inch monitor reviewed in your video for both gaming and work. I've understood that this monitor does not support 1440p resolution on consoles, which I find quite absurd. Could you please check if this monitor supports gaming at 1440p resolution on consoles? I'm particularly looking to play Apex Legends at 120 fps and use 4k resolution for work tasks. I prefer not to game in 4k on the console due to the significant performance drop in fps games, especially in competitive play. It's crucial for me to have the 1440p functionality for gaming. Your feedback would be incredibly helpful for making my decision. Thank you so much!
What mouse is he using im guessing the Logitech superlight or whatever it’s called but wasn’t sure.
I really hate glossy displays, though :( Release the matte version!!
They are not glossy I think
your just wrong
Irony?
When does this come out?
Was this your miracle device you mentioned on WAN?
I was very taken with these new monitors, but I don't understand why Dell includes two display ports and only one HDMI. It's crazy, also because on the 32" it returns to having the canonical two HDMIs and only one display port. I wanted to buy it, but it seems stupid to me, I'll wait for the Amazon restock of the MSI MPG 271QRX.
Gotta love Microsoft these days to use Windows...
Can you see if it makes a difference with ps5 and series x due to .03 ms responses time
What is the the Laptop Linus is using please?
I wanna see that 4k panel
Is this monitor available only in the US?
broo the way he just sat that thing down face down on the table just gave me pure anxiety my god. would it ever be nice to have so much tech on hand that you can just man handle a 1000 dollar monitor like that sheeeesh
I’ve got the aw2723df, is this monitor worth the extra money?
Is this the tech referred to by Linus in a recent WAN show that he said he hadn’t seen something that will make as big of a difference to your ability to aim and make headshots etc?
I would also like to know, he mentioned versing plouf though in the WAN segment
