Sawmill Shed Finishing Touches | Repairs, Log Oil & Cutting Spruce Siding

2024 ж. 22 Сәу.
288 420 Рет қаралды

The sawmill is back in action after we make a few repairs. We get started on cutting siding for our shop end walls and button up the sawmill shed with additional bracing and log oil. Just because we are working hard doesn't mean we don't have time to cook up tasty meals, blueberry brioche for brunch and caribou fried steak for dinner.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

  • If you go to the Forestry Forum, there is a whole section on what people use to keep the pitch down on the blade of the sawmill. Most do a combination of water, Dawn, and diesel fuel. Good luck!

I’m so glad that he did as that is what makes part of watching so awesome. We get to comment in our head but not be interrupted by either of you as the other does the tasks. I’m sure you’ve both perfected that over time with your channel and other times the interaction is nice too. You both seem to know when to interact and when to stay silent. • The only things I thought of that could have been factors were is the saw still perfectly level? Because that would affect the angle at which the blade hits the wood. You put it on those big beams you cut and the wood could have been from different trees with different moisture content and the amount of solar access or angle of wind hitting them could cause differential drying which could put it out if level. Freezing the water in the wood would make them swell, which could also affect the level. The other one was the speed of the blade. I have a cheap pole chain saw from Harbor Freight and there's a little sponge in the oil reservoir that *theoretically* keeps the oil from leaking out. It can move out of place easily and then the oil drains out all over everything. Yeah, sucky mess. My neighbor has one of those cut little Ryobi ones made for pruning branches and while I am completely in love with how light it is, it doesn't have a built in oil delivery system. You have a squirt bottle you're supposed to use as needed. Whatever that means. That experience made me quit hating on the HF saw though, lol.

  • To help with Sap build up on the Blade use water and some dawn dish washing liquid. Or you can also use Diesel fuel in a spray bottle and periodically spray the blade with diesel fuel. The Many different kinds of Pine & Spruce are full of rosin sap and it will build up quickly on the saw mill blade and also on your chainsaw bar, So some diesel fuel sprayed periodically with a pump spray bottle will help in keeping it removed.

  • I love Cabot's stain. It is what our decorating business sold. It is a good outdoor stain. I love that Eric seems to be able to fix any machine. Arielle, your baking "problems" are probably caused by a combination of humidity, cold temperatures, and a different elevation. I live a mile up, in a valley no less, and to cook pasta, I have to add half again as much time for it to be cooked, even al dente. I have a friend who moved barely a mile but several hundred feet down in elevation and proximity to the valley vs. mountain. She has had to redo all her cooking times. Something to keep in mind.

  • Guys, sawmill trick if you are sawing a lot of pine or spruce. Get yourself a small spray bottle and fill it with diesel fuel. Spray it on the blade after each log. This will help stop the build-up of sap and residue on the blade and keeps it cutting perfectly. The build up of this residue on the blade makes it sticky and is most probably the reason its jumping the guide roller. Also works on your chainsaw blade.

    • Was the problem tree frozen ? I've used my full hydraulic woodmizer and a frozen tree will cut very different.

  • In certain pines and spruce you will get a build up from the tree rosin so you can spay some diesel on your blade and it will keep it from building up. When your in heavy rosin you will just need to keep spraying the diesel. Love watching y’all.

  • You haven't fixed the problem of the bent bracket. The new one you replaced the bent one with needs to be stiffened. Weld a tab on the back to stiffen it.

  • Wow, you guys have really hit your spring chores list early! That's so awesome. The sawmill impresses me every time I watch you use it. Makes a lot of things possible without nearly the cost. And eating like royalty with some wonderful recipes (I was drooling just watching the bread being plated)! Thanks for sharing some great spring days with us and have a great week. Cheers.
