If the FL2323 is a temporary substitute, I'd use something else until the FL910s comes back.
This seems to be a recurring theme these days. They call it "shrinkflation." Now the oil filter manufacturers are doing it too. Charging more and giving you less. I'm not impressed.
It’s not like you don’t have a choice of which filter to use and in case you don’t know take your own filter to the oil change place!
As noted, 910S Purolator made, temp replacement Champ Labs (ecore) made. Unfortunately, the 910S has more than doubled in price from ~$4 off WM shelf to $8+ now. Used to be an excellent OPE option for $4, now other options in the mix. Thanks for the vid.
You're Welcome faxmen09, Used to be prices went up a few cents at a time now they double in a short time🤪
@@WhipCityWrencher Indeed!
THIS!!!! The 910-S used to be 3.97 at WM before Bidenomics, by 2022 it went up to about 5.85, and now well past $8 IF you can find it in stock. The 910-S IS a GOOD filter that used to be in a "economy" price point, but now it is in the price point of PREMIUM filters without an upgrade to the product.
@@chirodocheilman While I appreciate your comment and agree with points about 910S price, I always prefer to keep extraneous political commentary out of my comments. In my experience, not helpful to the topic at hand. It should also be noted the production issues experienced by Purolator for the MC filter, likely a factor in the price increase. To use cliche, it is what it is.
That new style Motor craft filter looks identical to the PF61E AcDelco I use on my 05 Trail Blazer with 198k. Great video as always WHIP. Every one, have a great weekend.
Thank You Have a Great Weekend👍
The ecore reminds me of the Fram orange can of death filters. Nice work
Thanks😊👍
The old one for sure. Both would likely take care of business at mfr. recommended oil changes, but I am a fan of metal construction, larger surface area, and the unique filter bypass valve. I have always respected Motorcraft filters.
Yes sir, changing all the time, these filters.
Outstanding Job, Pete. I will not use a new filter until I see you cut it open. These guys can't hide from you! It looks like Ford is really going cheap. You are losing the silicone adbv upper bypass valve, filter media and metal endcaps. Plus you have that design where the bypass valve is stuck in the leaf spring. I have no idea how you have have a good seal for the bypass valve stuck i na fiber endcap. I'm less concerned regarding the nylon core but it does indicate a reduction in material cost. The newer filter just looks cheap. I never cared much for champ made filters and this does nothing to change my mind. Give me the older filter any day.
Looks like Ford is going GM
You're Welcome Jim👍
@@daewooparts A few years ago those would be fightin' words!
I am not of fan of that felt. Seems to me, the old one is better. I'd buy another brand filter if I owned a FoMoCo vehicle.👍
Same. The media looks ok, but it's just a cheaply made filter. I'd go Wix Mahle, Hengst Purolator Mann etc
I am not surprised Ford has gone with a cheaper filter. The company is in such a financial mess, they are trying to save every penny they can in every area they can. I think the old filter by Purolator is better then the new Champ Lab filter. Everything these days is make the customer pay more and give the customer less. A RECIPIE FOR A DISASTER!
You're right that they are a mess but so is this entire so-called society that's actually a horrible scam that the majority is too harmed to tell, too harmed to stop being harmful, & too harmed to listen to being told to stop & become actually reasonable like everyone actually needs.
Full watch friend
Thanks😊👍
Another great oil filter Friday 😊. Informative and good sharing Pete 😊. TFS, Have a good one!
Thanks, Merri Have a Great Weekend😊👍
@@WhipCityWrencher 🙂
Motorcraft oil filters are made Purolator which is Mann Hummel now. That's a champion labs ecore filter every manufacturer has secondary suppliers in case of shortages. I believe champion labs uses ecore filters on their AC Delco filters too. Here's my thing. I love seeing what's inside all these filters but unless you use a OEM Toyota filter, most manufacturers don't make their filters. I just buy the fram ultra synthetic because it filters to 20 microns. But really if you're an average driver just get a fram ultra, Purolator Boss or wix XP. These companies have been making filters forever. They'll all do the job just depends on you driving application. Love the videos keep them coming
Thank You👍
Thanks! Those shorter than the original oem, on some champ filters can make them very difficult to change in some applications like my F150 4X4. I learned my lesson the hard way. Those grippy Fram ultra synthetic filters were a game changer for my old F150.
The new base plate seems to make the oil have to jump through 2 hoops and it looks "cheaper", as well. Old one for sure. Great content.
Thanks😊👍
Great Video WhipCityWrencher thanks for great info. 🔧
Thanks WrenchingMafia👍
That's why I bought several cases of WIX oil filters for our Subaru and my Ford F150...................AMAZON, by by the case, came to about $6.50/per filter
trouble with amazon is the amount of knock offs they sell, and being hard to tell them apart from the original
Great info happy Friday
Thanks, Christina👍 Happy Friday!
A hot cup of coffee and oil filter Friday....priceless.😅 Thank you.
🤣 You're Welcome and Thank You👍
@@WhipCityWrencher Did you hide my reply to YukonHawk1's "priceless" crap? The one that I can still see but is hidden from everyone else? Or is it being hidden by, sarcastically speaking) - the good folks at YT? If I quote it, we should see it, so... "@01mustang05 3 hours ago You & the rest of the majority are letting & causing child abuses to continue, wake up as some say, stop being who you've become, & learn how to be actually reasonable - like right now, damn it!", yes?
i have a champ made canadian tire brand . Love it .
Years ago I bought an AC filter and was disappointed with its plastic internals and goofy baseplate design, the same as the Kmart branded filters at the time and yes they were made by Champ! Champ is now owned by Fram the pioneer of felt end caps. While not a fan I have never cut one open that showed failure but prefer not to buy parts engineered to maximize profit over durability. Based on that I would not buy a Motorcraft without looking inside the box first, Purolator only please.
Just for information: FRAM does not own Champion Labs. First Brands Group LLC owns both companies along with Trico Blades, Raybestos Brake parts, Brake Parts Inc., Anco Blades, Carter Fuel Products, Strong Arm Lift Supports, and Autolite Spark Plugs. It's a huge auto parts conglomerate.
Just another "Champ"; SuperTechs & Delco's😉
Thanks, Pete. I'm very disappointed how they cut corners just to save a penny. The older filter for sure.
You're Welcome Jonathan👍
And yet ford still recommending 10k mile oil changes on newer vehicles. Either filter is fine for 3-5k mile oci. I use 820-s filter on my 04 super duty. Can’t beat them for 4 bucks. But I tow/haul, stop and start a lot so I only go 3k max if not less. I’ve gone closer to 4K when I rarely do a lot of highway miles. I like the top adbv design. Thanks whip as always!!
You're Welcome, Thanks for Sharing👍
Great sharing
Thanks, Bo👍
I like the metal end caps over the felt ones. I think people will shy away from buying the filter with fiber end caps. I don't think it's a good thing from the advertising department. Just my thought.
Interesting thank you for your videos!!! Like the old filter is better.
You're Welcome👍
As a Auto Parts store owner the problem is that Wix/Purolator Mann Hummel isn't shipping very good. Champ Labs is largest maker of oil filters in the world. Champ is NOT inferior
I definitely agree with you the 910 is a better filter
Looking at it from the base plate - the FL2123 looks very similar to the Supertech ST 3614
Internally I would believe that would be the case. The St3614 is cheaper than the 2123. The cost difference between the two would be due to the sticker on the filter. I bet they filter the same
The FL910... I run the Optional FL400S or the FL1A instead, due to Filter Media size and Oil Capacity.
I didn't know the FL1A would fit, it's almost an inch bigger in circumference, Thanks👍
OLD MOTORCRAFT FILTER IS BETTER - METAL CORE WITH LOUVERS - SILICONE ADBV - METAL END CAPS - GREATER SURFACE AREA - THICKER FILTER MEDIA IM GOING WITH THE OLDER MOTORCRAFT HERE NICE VIDEO, EXCELLENT COMPARISON 👍
Thanks, Drum👍
Fiber end caps are an automatic deal breaker for me. I just don't trust them.
The 910 is the filter I use on my little ford. Looks like I'm switching to a different filter now. That new one is garbage.
👍
Older Motorcraft FL910s. Bigger and Slightly more filter media. If older Motorcraft made by Purolator then should be able to find the same size in a auto-part Stores.

In the 70z there was a saying that the cellulose micron rating would get better with use. Multipass?
As far as I know, air filters get better micron rating with age also.
My cabin filter had an inch of buggy crud. Not much flow, but still smelled like stale air toxifierz! Lol 5 years I did not know my 2018 toyotaco even had one! Lol got two and put one in after washing out the crumb catcher cubby hole! Lol sure smells better! No perfumes!
All bypass valves should be up front
Not much I like about these champ filters. Just looks cheap to me. Looks like I need to stock up the old Motorcraft filters if I can find them
I'd be putting a PBL10241 on my Ford Fiesta. So sorry Motorcraft. 😱me driving a Ford Fiesta!
Oops ! Almost missed a video ! But anyhoo looks like the new motorcraft filter took a step backwards ! Greedflation at its finest ! 👍
I have a used filter that I'd love to send in with a new one from the same brand for comparison, any way I can do this?
Sure, send me an email to, Poker4me007@gmail.com
@@WhipCityWrencher Awesome thanks!
Another AC Delco MotorCraft filter ,when Ford goes GM 😆....no box because they got rid of those GM AC Delco packaging.........can we technically call these new filters "MotorCrap " filters
One big difference between current AC Delco and topic Motorcraft, the ACD uses metal caps, not polyester used by MC.
@@faxmen09, yup ,but a few earlier ACDelco filters with the ecore did have felt several years ago, but they quickly got rid of those after people found out by releasing revisions in the actual GM part#'s ....technically the newer MotorCraft is more like a cheaper SuperTech filter
Actually it's 9 inlet holes on the end, that go to the 13 on the inside.
It's actually 8 inlet holes on the outside and 13 on the inside.
@@WhipCityWrencher No Pete, it's 9 "inlet holes on the outside and 13 on the inside". Pause your video at 2:17 & count again, but this time see what's really there right in front of you; don't be like the majority too harmed to see reality even when it's pointed out. Look closer, I'm not messing with you.
New motorcraft almost seems like supertech with that junk plastic.
Yep, it's basically a Supertech ST oil filter.
I had two 910's that had loose burs in them. The nylon core probably has a lesser chance of that happening.
