Swarm Catch - April 2023 [Spring Swarm Catch by a Professional Beekeeper]
We've made a swarm catch! Watch as John catches a spring swarm in the bee yard. With years of experience under his belt, this professional beekeeper knows just what to do to safely capture and relocate the swarm to a new home. If you're wondering how springtime swarms are caught, learn more by watching this video!
It's important to have a plan in place when catching a swarm of bees. This swarm catch went smoothly because John and Corinne (and Cora) had the materials and tools on-hand. They were prepared when the swarm happened. We exist to help you be prepared when the time comes to catch a swarm. Check us out online for more info!

Just Subbed. . . 👍 I collected an over Wintered Swarm here in Scotland 🏴 last Wednesday. They were living in a Composter Bin ! All cosy with dry Leaf Litter all around them as Insulation. Found the Queen : Put into a Queen Clip. Also had the use of my DIY Bee Vac. A Screened Mesh Nuc Swarm Box, with a Converted Lid with a Regular Vac Tube Inlet (a Block off a Wooden Pallet !) And some Clear Tubing via a Double Washer Threaded Connector (used on Heating Oil Tank Outlet Junction !) Gizmo and Tube cost £10 ($17) Had the Swarm Nuc Box already, DIY Lid made from Scrap Timber. Added a couple of Super Frames (extracted Honey) for them to gather on, Oh and a bit of Garden 1"x1" Grid Plastic Mesh. They hung on that awesomely ! 👍 All in all, a great first 'Swarm Wrangling' Experience. Sweet. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
That was great!! I Love bees. My favorite is the honey.
We all love the honey! 🍯
I love swarms!!! Thanks!!!!
Coooool 👊🏿
Queen excluder over the entrance. Very important step! I learned that the hard way just today. Rookie mistake
7:00 love it
They needed a little bridge to get up from the buggy. Really good work though 👏
I love how "by the book" this was. I also love how, even after Cora left, maybe upset, maybe not, you were still talking about what she would want and likes. Take care, Conner.
Thanks for the comment, Connor! We're surprised Cora didn't come back with a jacket on. Growing up is fun, right?

You all did very well in this one . I think you did get about 99.9 percent of them . Keep up the great work and THANKS
Thanks Kathy!
Good catch! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Brian!
Great video. Really love the videos.
Thanks Shane!
Great job he's very kind to the bees, good set up, thank you
Thank you!
I like spraying the swarm and frames with sugar syrup. I think it helps them from flying and helps them to stay.
Great suggestion! That would absolutely work.
That’s a beautiful sight
We agree!
It's going to be a swarm year. I'm working on # 11 mine and catches in swarm traps. Get ready for it .😅❤🐝
You are definitely a busy man! Best of luck this season!
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply my favorite thing to do besides eating is swarm catching. ❤️🐝👍

While I really enjoy watching your videos, I sometimes wonder 🤔 why there aren't any wild flowers that attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to the area around the hives? Would this though have a negative impact on the bees or around the hives? I don't have any 💡 idea which is why I'm asking? Thank you for any insight and knowledge on the thoughts 🤔 I have. Beautiful box for the swarm! Nice video 📸👍! 😊
This is a great question, Derrick. We have several acres worth of wildflowers, blooming trees, and a wide variety of pollen sources that our bees utilize on a daily basis. Maybe we'll make a video showing some of these things with distances and such. Great suggestion!
I bet you wish they were all that easy.
You got that right, my friend.
At 8:12 we got the mass majority ? You could have got every single one if you have done it differently !
Thanks Jim.
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply , Thanks for what ? Pointing out your mistakes and your added Drama . You are Welcome !
@@jimthomas1989 Yep! It's nice to have professional beekeepers like you stop by and "point out our mistakes". That's how we learn. So, thanks Jim.
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply , I didn't say that I was a professional bee keeper . What I said was , you could have done it DIFFERENTLY ! So you must not know how to read and then comprehend what you read ! Comprehend means understanding what you was reading . And it's your own video that says BY A PROFESSIONAL BEE KEEPER And it's your own video at 8:12 you say we got the mass Majority Don't blame me for your own video and your own mistakes and your own DRAMA ! I'm just pointing it out to you ! PROFESSIONAL DRAMA MAN !
Thanks, Jim. @@jimthomas1989
