Randip and Dan are back to debate whether or not hockey analysts overrated the Calgary Flames coming into the 2021 season. With the way they have been playing recently are they even a playoff contender?

Yes, and I refuse to call Gaudreau Johnny Hockey unless he regularly proves that he's elite. By elite, I mean top 10-20 in the league.
He's a long way from that.
Johnny 'Regular Season' Hockey
@@DanRiccioGolf no he has 21 23
@@DanRiccioGolf he has 21 points and 23 Games
Johnny Hockey is exacting like the Laffs. Fairly good regular season but ghosts come playoffs
I am in full agreement with Randip: Tanny and Marky are not the issue. In my opinion, the Calgary Flames' two main issues-which, coincidentally, result in player overlap-are the leadership and the core. As much as I love that the Flames are a close-knit team, we should be breaking up our core and striving for a new identity (that is, if there is a reasonable block-buster trade to be made). Furthermore, if Tre can find a partner, we need to sever ties with Bennett; I think he may be having a poor effect on the team's morale.
The reason that it has taken Calgary so long to realize that Monahan and Gaudreau are not building blocks is because they overachieved so greatly in 2015.
@@salsuh Only to get walked by the Avs. Also hey Ry!
Don’t forget the fact that people think Canucks will lead the division.
No body but canuck fans where saying that.lol
Yes, Canucks are a huge disappointment too.
The Canucks were doomed to fall off a cliff unless Demko played like the next Dryden anyways. No surprises at all. Losing Markstrom was a mistake.
I’m a Canuck fan and nope didn’t think this at all
@@robertselles257 Yeah fair enough man I didn't mean to lump you all into the same category. What I should have said was who predicted that one?
when flames fans felt big because they got 31 year old Markstrom
Flames have had 13 different goalies since kipper left. Markstrom was very important in a multitude of ways. The issue is Monahan and Gaudreau. Mainly Monahan.
Agree. Markstrom has done well when healthy. Can't blame him for the team being ranked 27th in the NHL in GF per game.
Everyone made the Markstrom signing out to be the answer to all of their problems. Have fun with that contract for the next 5 years
as a canucks fan i’m pleased
I called it he’s Crawford 2.0 I warned them then they chirped me
You don’t sign goalies to massive contracts. Bobrovsky, Holtby, Markstrom.
@@xbeastone3764 i think goalies should get a max 3 year deals
Ironic snc is saying cgy is not replacing where they need to when content like this won't replace Tim and sid.
tim and sid was overrated. They were getting old
As a flames fan, I don’t like Monahan. Wouldn’t care if he left, he’s lazy
When you lose Brodie and Hamonic you need to replace them, so tanev makes perfect sense. The flames have also needed solid goaltending since kipper retired.
Literally. Because they burned out kipper
@@NolanHockeyPodcast I agree they rode him until he dropped
Amir Esteki favorite goalie as a kid it's a real shame. Also man throw us a subscribe if you can we're trying to grow our channel and we're at 210 and hoping to grow!
Them and the Canucks. When all these brilliant pundits had both teams ranked higher than the Oil because of who the Canucks added and how the Flames won the Markstrom lottery; it shows that maybe anything can happen and they aren’t as smart as they think they are. Calgary should blow things up now and rebuild around Thachuk before they waste his years like with Iggy.
Call me nuts, but ive never been that impressed with markstrom. I dont think hes truly elite, outside of his contract year in 2020. They basically paid a ton of money for a mostly decent goalie who's only going to get worse with age. Would have rather picked up Matt Murray from Pittsburgh for cheap and did the 1/1a with Rittich
You're right! He's always been consistent, but never otherworldly.
no team winning a cup without an elite goaltender. Riccio needs a better argument lol tanev pob best argument
Their core just doesn't have it. Monahan and Gaudreau aren't gonna be the ones
Flames blow....if they shipped out that floater "Johnny Hockey" for a nice package to re-tool.
The Flames play like they are playing shinny hockey... All the other teams are putting in real effort. 🤔 It's pretty hard to cheer for the Flames when they're just not really trying. Bench or trade the loafers, they can collect their money and ride the pine. 🙃
The team is just inconsistent. On paper they have the pieces to be very good. Markstrom improves their goaltending. Defense still looks fine. They have good offensive players. It's just consistency their issue. If they don't figure it out, they must change their core group.
They're missing top-end talent.
@@DanRiccioGolf I guess maybe they aren't up to par with what we identify what a superstar is. But there are several teams that would kill to have guys like Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk on their team. As a Habs fan, either of those guys would easily be their best forward at least right now. I wouldn't say their lacking talent cause they've shown they can produce. It's just a matter of finding that consistency. Gaudreau is 2 years removed from 99 points. Monahan I believe had around 80. Lindholm and Tkachuk were not shy of that mark either. The talent is there clearly. But since it isn't working, we view that as the problem.
@@TheIceBreaker There is definitely talent there, but I think they would have benefitted more from targeting a Dubois type than Markstrom/Tanev. Monahan can produce offensively but he just isn't a top-end C like the others you see in this North Division. Habs do have a similar issue, you're right.
The first line has been very streaky going back a few years. At some point you have to take that next step and produce consistently...don’t think it’s there for them
Treliving trades DOWN for goals with every trade. Look at the last 5 years and you will see our output just gets worse and worse. Tavev is another step to 1.5 goals per game. We get weaker and weaker with every trade. Treliving has got to go. Monahan and Gaudreau can go with him and in trade some players who win in the playoffs.
No it's literally just a terrible coach, they just need a good coach and a good system, the talent is there
Yes as a flames fan yes you did
Yes absolutely
Happens each year
I’m surprised you expected anything from them in the first place
Fleury is 37 and having a vezina season
@@CarsonElc12 buddy this video is talking about the flames not Marc-Andre Fleury
@@itstoothless8249 it’s called a comparison m8. Markstrom is 31, and if the flames could get 4 good years out of him he’d be worth it
@@CarsonElc12 my bad, it was just confusing how off topic the comment was compared to the video.
Yes
Flames have been overrated for years haven't won anything and never will
Randip was completely right for everything he said
Hi
Trade Gadreau and Monahan this year. Time to retool for a Sutter type team.
You think getting used Canuck players will give you wins ? Hahaha
Disagree. How can they go one night beating the leafs to losing 5-1 to Ottawa. It’s a coaching and leadership problem. Clearly the players have no desire or respect to play.
How many times can you blame coaching with the same core?
@@DanRiccioGolf ^coaching and leadership problem. It’s certainly a mix of both players and coaching. Everyone’s accountable.
They also lost 6-1 to Ottawa
@@MattHargest That's why they had to shake up the core of this team instead of trying to paper over the issues with a free agent goalie.
@@DanRiccioGolf hey.. I was right lol.
This is an easy answer for oilers fans. NO
Lol, you talk like your team achived something and have the rights to talk like if you above the others😂
At least the flames didn’t get shutout by the leafs back 2 back games from Hutchinson unlike the oilers did🤣🤣
Fire Geoff ward and we’ll be good
We’ve had 4 coaches in five years. Coaching is not the problem.
It's time to get rid of Mark Giordano and Milan Lucic that's where it stars
Good luck getting rid of lucic
@@dwaynesbgb there's trash day for every team but if a buyout has to happen it has to happen rather sooner than later
@@dallascook928 I thought the flames won that trade. Have you seen that guys contract structure? It’s basically buyout proof
