  • Thank you so much for doing such a great , clear understanding & outstanding Video Tutorial mate . Jay , You are the Best... You have no idea how much it helps us , Beginners and New Owners of Sony RX10 IV . I hope that Sony Head Office looks after you for promoting their Product as you are one of the reason i purchased my RX10 IV last week despite having been so angry at Sony Japan for mocking his Customers with the Rumors of a RX10 V since September 2019 . Keep it up , great Job .

  • Thank you very much! I shoot mostly videos (previously with Canon DSLRs using L telephoto lenses) and was about to give up on my RX10 iv and send it back. Your video explained what I had spent two days trying to dig out of a very confusing 269 page user guide. The video section of that guide does not start till page 200 and assumes knowledge of the previous 200 pages.

  • I use this camera for sports photography and replaced my 15,000 full-frame Nikon Camera and prime lenses. The only problem is in low light, pictures become useless, at least for moving objects. For the moon, I took handheld pictures that look as pro as National Geographic. I still love my RX10 IV after 2 years; I will buy the next one when released. I was thinking of shooting a video, so I looked at your tutorial. Can't get over GoPro 10 4k 120 FPS; 30 FPS will look like a VCR tape, haha. By the way, did you ever seen professional videographers zoom in and out? hardly ever, and there are a few reasons. If you look at the video theory, there are different shots to communicate your message, from ultra-wide (long shots) to ultra macro (extreme close-up shots); therefore, zooming in and out is not made for recording video unless you want to look amateurish. On the other hand, zooming in and out after video compression will look terrible. Stick to the classy way of composing a video and avoid features that will make your video suck! I knew most of the stuff you presented, but you did a great job; well done!. Guys, don't forget to storyboard your ideas before shooting and only record what you need. Otherwise, it will take ages to go thru your content. I will produce a video clip using GoPro 10, ND filters + macro lenses + DJI 2 Gimbal camera + robot (Auto camera tracker) for the first time. My hypothesis is that this setting will be excellent and so portable ;-). After that exercise, I probably won't look back to DLSR/mirrorless video. Cheers, J.

  • The most Important thing to teach/show the viewer is what memory card to buy to shoot 4kHD Vids. The "tiny V3" to the "right of SD logo" on 2 cards that seem exactly a like is lost in translation and when you get the warnings when attempting 4K video it's frustrating to find the small detail on card and huge difference in price. Thanks.

I read that if I used the USB power ON (& connect USB power cable on the side port), it would continue recording as long as I have space on the sd card. Can you offer some advice on how to set for continuous record (longer than 30 minutes)?

  • Hi Jay, better than the manual, thanks for your vodeo on this camera. In video it's often recommended to use 1/50 sec or 1/60 depending of the film rate. Is this also your recommendation? thanks.

    @patrickl3140@patrickl31406 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Patrick and yes I think the one over shutter method is "best practice". That is how I general film all my videos. Sometimes the lighting can make it difficult to do this though, and it can force the aperture to f/11 territory without a ND filter. In those cases, I let the shutter speed go up to whatever in order to maintain exposure. I rarely use a ND filter when testing cameras or lenses, but it's a must have tool for filming at the proper shutter speed in bright conditions. Jay

    @UfukSahinDenmark@UfukSahinDenmark4 жыл бұрын
    • Hello, and no I do not have the RX1R II. I only had it for review, and the IQ was far superior than the RX10 IV, but this is due to the huge full frame sensor vs the much smaller 1" sensor found on the RX10 IV. You get incredible versatility the RX10 IV 24-600mm effective zoom unlike the RX1R II which has a fixed 35mm f/2 prime lens with no zoom.

      @Jason_Hermann@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
    • Jay SonyAlphaLab A less used RX1R2 costs as much as a new RX10 IV here in Denmark. I only want to have a single camera. RX10 is very versatile, but in my opinion, it is only really usable in daylight, while RX1R2 can perform anytime anywhere. I mostly shoot my kids, some street and landscape. But I also really like to have a compact mega zoom that can catch some birds and wildlife. Total dilemma 😅

      @UfukSahinDenmark@UfukSahinDenmark4 жыл бұрын
    • @@UfukSahinDenmark It is a total dilemma I agree ;) I always prefer to have my full frame camera with a fast prime lens, but it's just not practical a lot of the time. Sacrifices must be made, or a camera bag with lots of gear needs to be carried, or you get something like an RX10 IV and you always have something that can get a great shot at the cost of a smaller sensor which yields less depth of field and more noise in low light... You never get something for nothing my friend!

    @ChristopherDillman@ChristopherDillman4 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, af still works and clear image zoom will work when recording video and give you an "effective 1200mm zoom" with video, but it's really just cropping in. It looks really good though, so a great feature nonetheless. You can zoom in even more if you have the digital zoom enabled. • What are the best settings for wildlife videography???

    @wildanshuman6203@wildanshuman62033 жыл бұрын
    • Well that is highly dependent on your situation honestly. I would try and have the shutter speed double whatever your recording frame rate is. So/ 1/50sec if you are recording at 4k/24p for example. The camera otherwise will be in continuous autofocus when recording video by default, so your good there. I would set the white balance to a fixed setting to match your conditions whether it be sunny or cloudy for example. You don't want to use AUTO WB, because it can fluctuate around. I would set the ISO to AUTO and probably just use shutter priority exposure mode within video mode. I hope that helps, Jay

If you have 4k selected or 120p selected in your video mode setting and go back to photo mode you are stuck in standard steady shot and have to go back and change your video settings to be able to use active or active intelligent stabilization in photo mode. That is a pain in the ass if you are shooting video and stills in the same shoot because you need the advanced stabilization beyond 300 mm.

  • Tried using video mode last night (1st attempt) and not very successful at all! I had been taking some shots at night of xmas illuminations using a tripod and shutter priority to do long exposures and most of these came out great. I then tried pressing the movie button and panning slowly around to get a short video clip. First it took a second to focus and then as I panned around the image was blurred as the focus kept getting lost and refocussed! A far worse result than my camcorder! What did I do wrong? Are there specific settings which help to maintain focus while panning or is the camera simply not up to it? Havent tried in daylight - this was night video. Cant remember exact settings but as I had gone straight from taking pictures I probably had the camera on Shutter priority and flexi spot focussing

    @jimgardner6394@jimgardner63942 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, focusing at night is very difficult, because the camera needs contrast to focus. A lot of times the lights will mess up the focus and the camera will hunt. For these types of clips I would try setting the focus manually then panning and the focus will not change during the pan. This is a more advanced move you can take when the camera is struggling for one reason or another. The flexible spot focus also make it a lot harder for the camera to focus when panning, so wide mode probably would have worked better in that case also... I hope that helps Jim ;)

This strangely does not appear in the manual but has been told to me by a repairor. Therefore, I set it on fast, and then go slow pushing the button just a little.

    @petebuoy@petebuoy6 жыл бұрын
    • Depending on where the focus is, it will change when zooming if the camera feels like it needs to. I'm not exactly sure what clip you are referring to, but the camera is in continuous AF mode when recording video, so it is subject to change depending on what the camera sensor sees in front of it. It also depends on what focus area you are using. If it's small or large will make a tremendous difference in what the camera decides to focus on.

      @Jason_Hermann@Jason_Hermann6 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you. I watched more of your reviews and get better ideas about camera focusing and basically have my question answered. Overall focusing looks quite good. I have another question. You did test while shooting cars on highway but you are quite far away from the highway. I also seen tests done during Sony event, shooting Hawk, flying toward the camera, it looks to me it is too extreme, I mean far end, close end and a speed of the object. Sometime I am filming sailing boats from another boat and missed a lots of great shoots when boat is coming toward me and it is getting really close like 15-30 feet, camera goes out of focus. This is supposedly be the best moment which I will not have. I wonder if you can do test, while being close to the road like 20 - 50 feet away, and see how good camera can track cars coming toward the camera and away from the camera. Best if this is local road, where cars moving 25-35 mph. Highway is kind of too fast, but can be done on highway, if there is no spot on local road is available. Just be careful when filming cars, people may stop and come asking why you filming them in case you on the local road. Don't like you to get in trouble :). Thank you much.

  • Have you noticed the video picking up sound of the camera zooming in and out?

    @maltillo1751@maltillo17516 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, you can very faintly hear the zoom motor when it's very quite. It's not completely silent, however when there is some background noise I don't notice it much at all.

    • I've just done another test and noticed the audio whilst zooming is becoming muffled for duration of the lens extending or retracting. I can better describe the sound of the zoom motor as a scraping slurping sound (It may or may not be from the motor) Please could you do a zoom test indoors in a quiet room and confirm what sound is picked up in the video?

    • Thanks for the comments Scott :) I think Sony is making a APS-C bridge camera that is similar to the RX10-series, and will announce it at some point in the future ;) I just have that feeling.... The market is clearly there and so is the technology! Jay

    • That lens coating helps with glare and contrast, but does not affect the color. Your White balance is what affects the color. Have you tried playing with that in the Fn = Function Menu?

      @Jason_Hermann@Jason_Hermann3 жыл бұрын
    • @@Jason_Hermann Yes. I tried that and can't get an accurate color balance. There is no color separation; it's muddy. There's definitely something wrong when a 10 year old iPhone has better color than an $1800 camera Sony needs to hire people that aren't color-blind.

      @johnsimpson7437@johnsimpson74373 жыл бұрын
    • That is odd John. After extensive testing I never found the images to be muddy other than when shooting at very high ISO values. If you check out my full review you can see all the sample photos and in my opinion they are fantastic considering the 1 inch sensor size. www.sonyalphalab.com/my-sony-rx10-iv-review-real-world-perspective-lots-of-testing-and-tutorial-videos/
