Schools in England given catch-up funds to help pupils left behind during pandemic - BBC News

The “full return” of students to schools and colleges in England on March 8th is justified by the latest data and a “robust” Covid testing regime, according to the UK government.
The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson also addressed the fact that hundreds of thousands of students have missed months of classroom education.
He announced an extra £400m for what's being billed as a catch-up programme. £302m of that will be spent on the most disadvantaged pupils in primary and secondary schools.

  • Iam not buying the government's ideas of "children possibly will have to attend summer school" when my kids have been doing all their online learning, infact far much more than their pals who ve been attending school daily. Summer holiday is for my kids to relax and treats and not schooling. Enough of this!

  • I haven't been in school secondary school from October because of my crones disease and shielding. I do miss school and my friends and I am so far behind that I am desperate to go back on 8th of march and go to summer school to catch up. For me online lessons don't teach me much as in a class and sending so much work doesn't help. Students have there own way of learning not just throw the book at you (work) and doing it on a online class because you don't get much support as in a class.

In his/her paragraph if you read it they stated that theh haven't been in school for a while and they could be in a essential year, like year 10 or 11 which is why they may want to catch up but you didn't acknowledge that did you?

  • All schools should resit the whole year again like they do in Italy if you fail the current year you are in. This way the kids will definitely catch up and those that were behind before lockdowns will have a better chance too xxx

The average age of Covid death is around 80 I believe. For a while, in men in Scotland the average age of Covid death was OVER average life expectancy...

  • Keep all schools closed, teachers need protection. Total lock down with vaccination is the only way out, stricter rules are needed, no traveling, all educational venues including university’s closed for at least 3Years. We must take a zero Covid stance no matter what.
