  • The moral is: we should not fear death. We should live with it. When the time comes we should meet it with understanding.

    • I wouldn't call it a moral -- that would constitute right and wrong -- and while the thought is poignant, and certainly romantic (in the actual sense of the word), it does seem a rather cliché platitude, and personally, I would think it arrogant to not fear death: there is nothing wrong with being terrified of finality.

  • Death was ashamed of himself, hating to have to kill beautiful things. All he wanted was friends and fun. The deer helped Death realize that nobody is angry at him, and that letting his friends move on is caring for them.

    • He wasn't ashamed of himself. He just realized that he held the power of taking life with one touch of his hand. And it's not that he wanted that power, in fact you could see that he struggled with it, but it was his task and he understood it and knew what it meant. In the end, he reluctantly gave rest to his best friend, and felt the grief of it. I think if I had to think of it in a spiritual sense I could imagine G-d loving us just as death loved the little deer. But like death, G-d realizes that He must deliver us to our death. Though it hurts, he does it. But it doesn't mean He doesn't love us. It's simply our time.

  • In my opinion, the character of "Death" touches the animals not to kill them but because he wants to touch something, to play, to have an embrace. This is clearly evident when he touches the flower and it withers immediately, shocking him. So in the end, the deer chooses him to touch and give him the embrace he was seeking. It was time for her to die. This is apparent because the deer seems to tremble and not be well when the others depart. Very, very touching from every perspective.

    @kaounis@kaounis19 күн бұрын
  • Death loomed over her. Over the many years that it followed her she got closer and closer to it. Sleeping along side her, being with her while she ate, and watching over her family. Over time she grew old, weary, or sick. She knew it was time... As her family left the forest to graze she stopped. Pausing only for a moment and looked back to the death that had watched over her. She walked towards it calmly. She had lived her life; with understanding and trust she embraced death. The friend that would come for her and all that followed.

  • Notice how all of the other animals lay down immediately and fell into slumber the moment Death touched them, but in the deer's case, at 3:40 it did not, as Death (I guess) himself don't accept it, but seeing the deer tolerating the pain, Death hugged it with acceptance and peace. Just a realization that made me cry even more.

  • I’ve refused to watch this for years after it making me so sad the first time. Today I walked in the vet with my dog and never walked back out with her. I knew what was coming and her eyes looked at me just like the deer looked at death “don’t be sad, I’m going to feel better once it’s done” I came home and tried to nap a couple of hours later. During my nap I heard sounds of her by her bed and then what sounded like her walking around the room. 30 minutes later the doctor called and told me she went into cardiac arrest and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. R.I.P. my doghter, my little girl, my best friend and little monkey. We had 15 amazing years together and I know you loved me as much as I love you. We will see each other again Trinket 🐶 💙💙

How can anyone be happy on knowing that all this happiness and joy is temporary..and everything has an end... Truth is painful.... My God how have you started believing that someone you loved and played with for 15 years is no more... How painful is it... I can't write anymore🥺

    • Death is sad because we’ve cultured it to be sad. Obviously because loved ones are no longer with us, but we choose to look at our own loss and rather than celebrate the life they’ve lived and moved on from, and rarely look at it as peaceful end to pain. Almost seems self-centred and egocentric, really. I like Neil Gaiman’s Death as portrayed in the Sandman comics; young, pretty, friendly, intelligent, warm, and reassuring rather than a dark and foreboding being. If you’ve never read it, I highly recommend the series.

      @travisjg80@travisjg802 жыл бұрын
    • @@travisjg80 It is indeed self centered. But we literally can't call these people up any more to catch up on things, to shoot the breeze. And the ache in our hearts sometimes never ever subsides until the day finally arrives in which we may join them--usually not soon, usually not today. So what are we to do but be sad? Yes, yes, our roles now as survivors are to go out and to gather more stories with which to bring to the afterlife and to share with our loved ones. But upon forming each story the instinct is to share it--now!--and the one for whom it's designated can no longer respond.

If you are always afraid of death you won’t be prepared for death. Death co-exists with us as long as we are physically alive. People fear death,not because of what’s going to happen to them,but because of what’s going to happen to the ones that knew them.

  • I love how you made the Death so nice and gentle, shows how he doesnt mean to do harm to anyone, he just does what hes meant to. Even tho he makes the animals die, he does it as gently as he can. Also you can see how every single time he feels bad for the animals that die, but its just their destiny, its just time for them to go. And he learned about it later thanks to the deer he loved so much. He didnt want to hurt it, but it accepted that its time for it.

To one who is tortured....to one that endures the passing of ages.....Death is the greatest gift they can receive. Alas, just as with anything given, when it is Forced on another, that is when it becomes a true tragedy.
