Then again, they usually go to high-end hair salons that don't have black stylists or stylists trained to work with textured hair. That contestant with the afro looked so much better with her afro than with her weave. Also, why do they always get stylists who don't know how to do weaves properly?! 😭 It hurts.

  • we need to stop making fun of girls who cry when their hair is cut. There is a lot of inscurity there, we feel like we are losing our femininity. Hair represents security, comfort, beauty and femininity (in most cases, even if its not true). Even if our hair doesn't define us, it is still a part of us and it is difficult to let all that go so suddenly. People who have never had long hair (that they actually adored) will never understand so please stop making fun of them. Edit: I just wanted to add: I don’t mean that having long hair is feminine itself, I mean that in the past it was linked to femininity and that stigma has stuck. So even if it’s not true, a lot of women have a hard time cutting their hair because they are afraid of challenging their own femininity.

    @lucyd57@lucyd573 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, I used to have extremely long hair, down past my waist. For me it was a kind of safety blanket. I've always had social anxiety and agoraphobia and having people look at me always made me incredibly anxious and insecure. I started to grow my hair longer just because I liked the look in the beginning, but as it grew longer people started commenting on it and somehow that helped me to feel like if someone looked at me in public it was simply because of my hair, not because of any of my other insecurities. When I decided to finally cut it I did it because I had gotten to a place mentally where I no longer felt the need to hide myself. I can't imagine how I would have felt if someone had forced me to cut it before I was ready. I would probably have had a panic attack, for real.

Some people even see shorter hair as “masculine.” I remember when I cut my hair, people CONSTANTLY would ask me “why I cut it” and “Your hair was so pretty.” We need to remember that not everyone in this world is so progressive and people can influence your thinking and we can project that onto ourselves.

Like you have a range of acceptable haircuts to choose from and if it's shorter they question your sanity, sexuality or health and if it's too long they question your sanity, hygenity and social abilities. Just let people have the hair they want it's none of your buisness. They have to be happy with their haircut, not you.

This wasn't an on the spot announcement say bye to your hair kind of deal, these girls knew what they were in for when they signed up. • don't listen to the other comment, you're allowed to feel attached to your hair. I know a lot of girls (very much including me) who are super protective with their hair and its not because they're 'dependent on their hair' its just because they like it and it makes them feel good! Right now your hair might not do that but I hope than you can soon find something to love about your new hair :) I don't know how short your hair is but I also have short hair and I love that I can use it to hide my face in public! Its not the same happy feeling my long hair gave me but its still good. You don't have to feel the same way about your new hair as you did your old hair but I hope that you can find a new source of happiness and safety in your new hair :)

She was scared and thats okay. Don't ever be ashamed of feeling that fear. When its uncontrollable and you no longer have the thing you've had all your life, its hard. Or if they are wearing a natural like weave they give them straight weaves that are crappily sewn. They always end up looking horrible. It's kinda complicated but it dates back to bordering school would cut natives hair to "civilize" them. My dad was in charge of cutting younger boys hair in bordering school. But yeah their are cultural reasons people have long hair and have a deep connection to it. Also a lot of native boys get teased for their long hair. Just some info.
