See how to install a JVC KW-Z1000W floating head unit. This installation is on a 2020 Subaru STI. Any stereo you get will have a very similar installation, if not the same. Don't forget part 2 for the rest of the install. Got questions? Let me know!

Review of this head unit: kzhead.info/sun/htlqdZuGenaJm6c/bejne.html while there, please sub as I’d like to get a dedicated car audio channel going. Thanks!
Great Video. I just ordered an STI and will be here last week of July. Seeing yours when I picked up the elliptical put me over the top to get one.
That's awesome man. Send me some pics when you get it! Tell the Mrs. I said sorry 🤣
Thanks for making these videos. Always look forward to them, especially this one!
Thanks for watching! Hope it's useful someday
Nice! Looking forward to pt 2
Thanks, already out
best tutorials on the internet
You make the best videos for this stuff.
Thank you I try to be thorough
Great video mate! I wish it was this simple on my car... I have the premium Australian version with the harman kardon speakers and amp... made it so much harder. I also made a video, but explained how I got around the factory amp!
You just connect an Audio control LC 7i to the stock amp. Thats all
Jvc has great sound quality
Hey, can you please confirm that you were able to keep the usb in armrest working? Thank you! Your videos have been very helpful!!
Thus is a legit video. 👌🏾
Hi my friend, I've upgraded all my speakers after watching your videos. I have just found out my stock head unit wont allow me to play music from a USB flash drive. The flash drive is getting power to it as it lights up but the head unit USB icon remains greyed out. I've even been to my Subaru dealer who cant resolved the issue. You appear to be supper clever and I was wondering if you could suggest anything I could try to play music from a USB flash drive through my stock head unit? Regards Martin
Do you think this would work in a 2016/2017 Subaru Crosstrek?
great video i have a quick question! in the 2021 subaru wrx sti limited it has 9 speakers if i wanted to upgrade them are all the speakers the same size ? 6.5 inch ? and would i be able to add 4 inch super tweeters ?
6 speakers and a sub maybe.
Would this void the warranty?
Thanks for the video. Did you utilize the factory usb jacks in the center console or relocate?
I relocated, I used an extension I already had. That said, most aftermarket units do not support a hub so the factory USB plugs would not have worked anyhow.
@@akqjtn I figured as much. The 2017s still had the single USB. Thanks for the confirmation.
Great video! Also, are you selling the OEM headunit?
I am not, I usually keep all of my stock parts to bring the car back to stock if I ever decided to get rid of it.
Hey I have a 2019 STI limited with the HK. This unit would be the same setup? With no issues?
You need the ads-mrr2 and the su3 harness.
Any suggestions for those with the HK system? I've got a 2015 STI Limited
You mean a HU suggestion? Other than the slight differences of the install, you can use all the same decks as the non HK.
Any idea where to find the harness that would bypass starlink features so I dont have to mess with the telematics unit?
www.autoharnesshouse.com/69018.html
Would this work for a 2019 mustang Gt? All shops in my area have said there's nothing that will let me keep my stock controls.
Go to the idatalink website and enter your car's info. It will tell you if it supports it or not.
@@akqjtn cool man,thanks. Great channel.
I have a 2021 wrx that I just did the 6 kicker speakers in. I want to add a sub for a more full sound. Do you think that doing a head unit is a better next step?
Absolutely, the stock HU sucks. Aftermarket ones sound better, are more responsive, don't roll off bass, are more powerful, you can add wireless android auto, give you a proper equalizer and way more options, low level outputs, etc.. I can go on, but you get the point.
Get a quality one though, the are a lot of cheap junk coming from overseas that looks good and works at first, but you end up regretting it.
Do you have brand you’re loyal to?
I do not, my last one was Pioneer, this one JVC. Kenwood and Alpine also come to mind.
Thanks for dropping by! Got questions? Let me know! Don't forget Part 2 for the rest. Take care.
Just wondering if this guide would also work for the wrx (non sti) head units I imagine they would be very similar setups Thanks and great guide!
Same deal, just make sure you use the instructions for the particular stereo in the car. I had a 2017 WRX and all of the stereo stuff was the same as this. Again, the different size head units these cars come with have slight variations on how to put the harness together, but almost the same.
@@akqjtn Sweet man! Thanks for the reply been wanting to upgrade the head unit for awhile this makes it much easier
Can you do like a 3 month or however long review of this head unit? How it's working how you feel about the head unit and does the size gets to be too big and if it should've been a smaller one. 🤔 thank you
@@islandman183 in the works!
Does this retain the center console usb plugs?
It doesn't because it is a proprietary hub. Last HU I had also didn't retain it. I simply install my own or use the included cable.
@@akqjtn I found a metra adapter that connects to the receiver side and converts to USB A. I might give that a try when I get to this. Did you adjust the height to use the MFD?
I would go pull that GPS metal sticker off your dash it's going to make a discolored stop if you ever want to remove it. It doesn't need to be mounted on the surface of the dash you can actually probably get away with mounting it under this tweeter grill.
I still don’t get what that telematics unit is. European Subaru cars don’t have that, which obviously makes it allot easier to put anything aftermarket.
It's for remote services, like GPS locator, remote start, Starling, etc. Think onstar...
The car also complains when you disconnect it.
@@akqjtn Yeah we don't have that, remote start is illegal here anyway.
I love my Subaru, but Starlink if just so underwhelming. I knew that it wasn't great before I bought the Subaru, but I wish they did better by their proprietary infotainment system
