Brolin made the character, the voice the, nuances, the one liners, the emotion all of it he perfectly captured Thanos imo.
His tired voice is perfect for the Titan. Someone cursed with knowledge and blindly went down the path of destruction.
@@PowuhToSevenThat's a really good way to put it.
Nailed it like heath nailed joker if you ask me
He was *better* than Thanos from the comics. Brolin + the writing and directing + Next Level Motion Capture - all under rated. MCU just di#king around now, cuz they don’t know what else to do.
@@summertyme5748 How do they not know what else to do? They literally have all the movies and shows up to the next Avengers movies set up. The only issue is what has been going on with Jonathan Majors in real life.
Josh brolin has helped thanos become one of the most popular villains in pop culture.
Only for non comics fan
Thanos was a major player well before he showed up in the movies. I swear, people act like nothing before the MCU existed.
Thank you.
@@taterboobBut becoming such a massive presence in the MCU changed that dramatically. No non comic readers knew Thanos before then
@@issamchiche7343he was already a big deal for comic writers, so yeah, him playing it in the movies made him more popular by exposing Thanos to non comic readers and it being successful.
Brolin leveled-up the character immensely. Thanos is one of the best movie villains of all-time.
Thanos was lowkey a poet ! All of his lines were his best lines !
Back when Marvel cared
His lines alone we just menacing and well written.
It was..... inevitable
@@Thisthat1234 “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”
Perfectly balanced as everything should be
Josh Brolin gave us the greatest Marvel villain on screen for 2 movies. And NO ONE is ever topping that. No one. Majors wasnt remotely coming close with Kang. Same with Christian Bale as Gorr.
I agree but Thanos was also written way better than Gorr and Kang, credit to the writers too
@@versaviceversaHe was complex, but also noble. That's what made him endearing to an extent -- you could see that he was trying to solve a problem in the universe, not simply create a problem for problem's sake. And there are a lot of people who argue his motives, but everyone is arguing from the position of a microcosm of existence, whereas Thanos was looking at the big picture, he was trying to solve a macrocosmic problem beyond the likes of which any single person could comprehend. I know some people complain that it wasn't like the comics, but I'm glad it wasn't, because his conundrum posed a very interesting philosophical problem that extended beyond the singular existential threat, and that's why he will never be replicated again or have a villain remotely as interesting as him from any movies going forward.
Christian Bale never got a chance. Most of his scenes were cut so the movie could have more lame one liners.
Why bring them up? Majors had one movie and a TV show cameo, Brolin had like 6-7 years to build his character and 2 whole movies. Majors had the potential but Marvel is dumb.
Brolin was phenomenal as Thanos but Willem Dafoes Green Goblin for me is the greatest supervillain casting and performance of all time and its not even close for anyone else I believe. The fact he reprised his role for the MCU and still knocked it out of the park as well as twenty years ago just shows how much he owns the character like I don’t think any other actor could ever play Osborn as perfectly
Sicario role was very defining. Great character
Brolin saying that he loved doing the two Avengers movies is a big thing that I wish they asked him to elaborate on. Usually serious actors talk about how dull or mechanical the process of working on big movies is and how little “real acting” is involved, but here’s Brolin saying that he loved being able to develop the character and was encouraged to add nuance. It’s a a credit to Marvel for how seriously they took the task of creating Thanos and allowing the actor to bring his own creativity.
And that's why the character is good
Now, that he mentioned Brando. I can't unsee the similarities he carried into that role.
For real
Instead of saying "can't unsee the similarities" you could have said you "can see the similarities" just a suggestion.
Damn, now that’s all I’m a see now
@@jackhughes9811you need jesus
@@jackhughes9811 nah they said it the they felt at the moment!
His voice though, the character in every syllable. He didn’t even have to change it much for Thanos.
The money talk is rare in the industry, even a little peak respect for Brolin for the glimpse
Great actor. I loved his portrayal of thanos and tbh I think he was the best character in that whole thing, more nuanced. The others were a bit one dimensional imo. He was also great in no country, one of my fav movies.
I think Josh Brolin's performance as Thanos is extremely underrated. Of course Thanos is extremely popular today, but people don't bring up Brolin's name like they do with Heath Ledger for Joker or Tom Hiddleston for Loki. Brolin's performance is right up there, if not next to those roles and I think he needs his credit.
They do bring up his name
Underrated? Lmaooo
True, the cgi really hides him, same thing with Bill Nighy
@@hotcoldman77 im not saying the character, obvioulsy thanos is huge but im saying Brolin doesn't get enough credit as an actor for his performance.
@@bigb5362 Ohhhh I gotcha! You're actually really spot on. Never see his name compared to like Heath Ledger, Nickolson etc
The thing with Thanos is that he's a villain who thinks he's the hero. INFINITY WAR is kind of his movie. He's the protagonist of that film. He has a goal, and he's putting himself in the line of fire, and making sacrifices to achieve his goal. Thing is, his goal is monstrous. But he's such a compelling character, you almost forget that. When he talks, he's forlorn, like he's taken up an incredible burden even though he's completely insane and wants to commit genocide. You're almost satisfied at the end, before you remember "He just dusted all my favorite characters..."
I'm just so glad to see him back in dune 2
He killed it! Next level performance
One of the greatest villains of all time… And in Pop Culture. Right up there with Darth Vader and The Joker.
Great point at the end about success & wealth can bring on another set of problems.
Goonies never say die!
Josh Brolin as Thanos is one the ages.
He really doesn't get enough flowers 🎉
Thanos truly ‘Thrashed’
His voice is so majestic
If honesty was person 😂❤ Thanos was 10/10 and he killed it Sicario and Deadpool!
What I think he did impeccably as Thanos, was bringing a level of intensity that really impacted those final movies. The previous ones were very much lighthearted and funny for the most part, but he made Thanos give that edge that made them more like thrillers. You feared him every time he was on screen. In Endgame I though how he said "you could not live with your own failure" and "I will shred this planet down to its last atom" just made you really feel he was going to succeed.
The only sad thing about his Role as Thanos is how much Thanos was nerfed in the Movies but aside of that he did really great.
he was holding back in all of his fights, the only bs moment was Thor pushing through all 5 stones at once for the chest hit imo
IMHO, the last Thanos line summarized how Josh Brolin played the character, he could play it "cool" because he was inevitable. I didn't make the connection until now, but so was the villain in No Country For Old Men. They knew they were going to succeed.
I spent near 300 hours drawing thanos last year:)
...loser...
It’s funny they didn’t like how he did thanos in the gotg cameo but I kinda did. The way they went with was better but his demeanor when he did cameos was also cool
I will always will remember the immense respect Brolin earned from me when he did No Country for Old Men.
Soo...he got a bonus on the Monday AFTER opening weekend on BOTH movies....amd he says that all humble like!
Josh Brolin is threatening yet trustworthy. Tony Hawk is friendly and unthreatening yet powerful
Thanos is just one of many amazing characters that Josh has done in his career
You're point?
I think he mesnt to convey the idea of tjanos being just one of many amazing charcters played by brolin ya knob@@capndallas4918
"I know nothing about cartoons" is such a Chad thing to say
@@ImproveConditionseveryone has watched cartoons at some point in their life !!! Amen
I know right...saturday mornings growing up i watched porn and snuff films instead of cartoons. psssshh cartoons are for babies.
Is it though?
I'm not a nerd like you plebs.
Josh Brolin is DOPE...
He on MIB is incredible, I forget it's him, it's a so good impression of young Tommy Lee.
Love this guy
Brolin citing Brando in Apocalypse Now makes perfect sense, and now I will never watch Thanos scenes the same way again.
Thanos is and only could be brolin’s roll. Nailed the greatest villain ever
it's incredible how big and purple he got for the role of thanos. that's real dedication
Disney need to do a Thanos Prequel of how he grew up and how he became obsessed with Mistress death and the story of how he became the Mad Titan
ETERNALS 2 maybe
@@cedfarmer898Eternals 1 should never have happened.
Thrashin' vs. Gleaming the Cube!
Definitely iconic.
bro eatin good
Thanos was a Villain of depth of and nuance
Great vocal performance but the CGI for Thanos in the films proper was flawless. CGI in all the movies since End Game hasn't come close.
They should make a Thanos origin movie.
I say after GoTG cameo when he threatened to bathe the stars with Ronin's blood was the seller's mark. But its interesting to think who would have been the option.
My favorite villain, Thanos... Josh Brolin just excellent...
Underrated due to par for the course Marvel jealousy, and now Marvel is a mess so the haters just go - hey we were right all along. 😅
He said that Thanos was only going to be a cameo at first. Yeah... I don't believe that. The Infinity Stones (Infinity Gems in the comics), always lead to Thanos. All these years later, and he still doesn't realize that. Kinda crazy.
Except they didn’t display them as the infinity stones initially. Watch again and I think you’ll see that the retconned them into infinity stones. If you still doubt me, once you reconsider “the ether”, I think you’ll come around. They didn’t know how successful this would become. So, it makes sense that they had no endgame or one that didn’t resemble what we ultimately got.
In the movie, GotG, that he cameo’s in, they specifically refer to the orb as a container for an infinity stone
@@Eaglemna it takes years from the conception of a movie to its release. Marvel clearly did not know exactly where they were going all along. They even changed Thanos’ appearance (and maybe the actor who played him) over time.
He also may have thought he was only doing a cameo even when fans knew the Infinity Gauntlet was coming. The cameo was a few years before Infinity War
This is Josh Brolin saying this. If it was Kevin Fiege, it would probably be a different answer.
RDJ’s Iron Man, Holland’s Spidey and Brolin’s Thanos were my favorite parts of the MCU
Josh brolin looks like a Real Humble dude, He said i was doing drugs 🤣 like not even ashamed my boy street with it
So who should’ve been the main villain before they did the 2 thanos movies ? Or what kind of movie should’ve have been before those two movies ?
Ultron. Killing him off by the end of that movie was such a waste IMO.
I liked his charecter in american gangster the best out of anything hes done
Brolin sounds like he's about to give the most thanos line ever at any point of time😂‼️
Thanos was always going to be the main villain in the first Phase of the MCU. Brolin, the fine actor that he is, was lucky to be cast in the role after Marvel moved on from the original actor (Damion Poitier).
Whenever I read a comic with Thanos, it's always in Brolins voice
Him as cable was cool also
Tony Hawk and Thanos
Great actor but also he has a very strong business mindset on portraying Thanos. Didnt know how much strategy was put into character development in retrospect to profit sales
I can’t imagine what those checks looked like, and the bonuses were probably wild. At least 7 figure bonuses I’m sure.
Dude when he said Brando I immediately pictured thanks the godfather lol and it fits.
I think he was thinking more ‘Apocalypse Now’.
I'm not a Brolin fan, but his performance and his character is this generations Darth Vader. Ppl back then were scared of him ( well not now, they turned him into a clown) as ppl were scared of Thanos
Thanos will be to this generation what Vader was to mine as a kid in the 70s and 80s....when they grow up they will have movie call backs and all the stuff that is going on now with each property I grew up with..he was amazing and he made those movies for me
Lol no I love thanos but he will never be on that level
I can't unsee him as cable now. Perfect casting. He's as close to the 97 xmen cartoon as you can get imho.
'Cartoons..' haha. That's gonna piss people off.
🤣🤣🤣. I was thinking the same thing. Oh jeez these marvel nerds get upset about everything.
@@TJ-fe7rr Natural response to someone ignorant to a thing you're passionate about downplaying it like that. It's like an actor playing a skateboarding legend saying "I didn't know, let alone care about kids and their rollerskates before doing the part".
Interesting in seeing his original approach.
His voice is what sold me for Thanos
Thanos and Heaths joker are THE TWO BEST VILLAINS OF ALL TIME
A major Nemesis against all these dude 😮
It’s interesting how wealthy people have the same spending issues that average joe’s have but with the decimal point moved over. We assume we’d do better with their wealth but there’s always something more to buy with more zeroes. Same concept, bigger stakes. Doesn’t excuse them, no. But it does give insight into human nature.
Rich people may have that problem, wealth is generational, I don’t see any spending issues
And now you can finally rest, and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe.
Since when was it supposed to be a minor role? Thanos was teased as the big bad at the end of The Avengers and they introduced the infinity stones during phase 1 and phase 2 as well. It seems like that was always the end goal of the Infinity Saga
josh is a real one
That's fucking awesome he was doing drugs when he got the Thanos part.
Infinity war is an incredible movie
Yes he had some good writers but tht charecter is all Josh i luv his portrayal of Thanos a compelling villain.
That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. If I remember correctly, his first appearance was an after-credits scene. Surely they had some kind of plan for him at that point.
YEeEAH! NYEAH!
We need Thanos back.
No let him stay iconic
As great of a movie it is, it just wouldn’t have worked if they dropped the ball on Thanos, a big purple CGI villain. But Brolin killed it.
Josh! You were Bad Ass Thanos Bro!!! All your lines are classic! Bodied Hulk hahahahahaha
Marvel was pushing for Downey to get an Oscar for Endgame. I think they have pushed more for Brolin to get one for Infinity War.
so glad for him! So essentially he just played himself..cool!
This just made me think “what if he played another marvel character-“ and then realize he already did 😂 Cable lol.
Brolin in the goonies was good to
0:20 "i was doing drugs, and they sent me the script and i thought this was so cool!" lmao you can tell he had a fun trip reading the thanos real without knowing anything about the comics :D
bro said he was surfin and doin drugs ... lmaooooo
Also a wife beater.
Dreaded, run from it. Destiny arrives all the same 🔥
Tony Hawk with a podcast....wow how original. He needs to pay his power bills I guess.
The funny thing is he/The Russos/Fiege/The MCU actually made the character of Thanos BETTER imo. Like to me Thanos or atleast what I know of him now learning comics more, was always awesome but he was one-dimensional. And his goals were hokey and only work in a comic book setting. The fact that rather than him being some crazy guy worshipping "the goddess of death". Hes instead a megalomaniac with a god-complex who really believes hes doing "the right thing" by committing mass-genocide on a cosmic level that wont actually solve the problem he wants to solve but he believes it will sincerely. Made that character great on paper and then Brolin hit it home with his performance. And no guys, "Thanos wasnt right" and his plan was dumb in that it wouldnt have solved the problem, only kicked the can further or actually caused massive ecological collapse. But it works if you remember he is a villain and a "the mad titan".
Greatest villain of all time
Seeing Brolin with shoes on is so weird after Sicario 1
I've never seen Josh Brolin so loose before. Or, lucid.
So I was chillin and sh!t... 😂
he turned into full on Rich Piana
Did he live with his dad growing up?
Thrashin is a f'in classic!!!
For most people Vader was the top villain I’d bet those stats changed
Fucking dope
Josh is Thanos. No Josh no Thanos. period.
