I watched the original documentary of Philippe Petit. He spent 45 minutes on the wire and made 8 trips from one building to the other. I remember his comment that it was no more dangerous to walk across the towers than it was to walk across a wire at 8 floors off the ground. If you fall, the result will be the same anyway.
The results are the same but the time of fear and regretting your life choices are longer
Only difference is 8 floors up it takes what? 2 seconds to fall and die. 110 stories maybe a quarter of a minute. Would suck

This movie took some serious artistic license with the police actions that day. Not a single cop leaned out to grab him. They knew any action on their part might cause him to fall. They opted for the safest action and that was to let him finish on his own.
And im guessing you know this cause you were there to see it all? Police are trash. They only care about officer safety. Not yours. Or anyone elses for that matter.
True. They didn't disturb him in any way.

You know what’s amazing? Phillppe petit actually helped glorify and popularize the World Trade Center and gave them much needed attention
He essentially brought them to life. They were viewed as eye-sores before for looking like 2 giant filing cabinets. Phillippe is a remarkable human being.
@@AlexTommo Yes he did! The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey even said that they were having trouble renting out office space there. Philippe’s wire walk between the WTC Towers helped bring them into the spotlight! People from all over the world had worked there! ( I only say that is from reading a new book about Elizabeth 2nd earlier this year, at least 67 English people were killed in the WTC Towers)
Maybe too much attention
So he caused 9/11? Pathetic…
He humanized them.. They are pretty damn bold and urban, which was why they were so powerful in defining the city skyline.
Police: "Get down off that wire!" Phillipe: "Very poor choice of words."
pulls parachute cord
Doing something like this takes courage and Petit really had A LOT of it! He's not the only daredevil to do something big like this involving the Twin Towers. In 1983, Dan Goodwin CLIMBED all the way to the top of the North Tower using suction cups. And in the 1970's, a daredevil jumped off the South Tower with a parachute and in 1990's, another daredevil did the same thing. They all survived uninjured. They were arrested but the owners and people in charge of the towers did not press charges because no damage was done and nobody was hurt and plus it was great publicity for the towers. So they all got off with paying a small fine.
lmao, I would never ever trust a suction cup enough to do that shit. As dangerous and irresponsible as it is, I can't help but admire these people.
I wonder if there's been a group of daredevils that also did something dangerous with the towers 🤔🤔🤔
i wonder if the atention coming from these is partly responsible for certain individuals planning to make sure of the end of this structure
Daredevils are not people who kill themselves INTENTIONALLY.
Dan Goodwin climbed other buildings with suction cups before he climbed the North Tower. The very first building he climbed was the Sears Tower in 1981, wearing a Spider-Man suit and calling himself Spider Dan.

To this day, I still can't believe that the Port Authority was so ignorant and foolish as to send up a helicopter in order to confront him. They should have just let him do his thing and then arrest him without any interference whatsoever.
They didn't send a chopper up. Neither did cops encroach on his space or lean over the building to grab him. They would make themselves culpable in his death if that caused him to fall and their only valid tactic was wait until he was bored or too tired, which worked. Doesn't make a good film though.
yeah. flying that noisy, distracting helicopter around him puts him in so much more danger, not to mention the force from the propellers that could've sent him falling to his doom if he lost his balance from it
Apparently in real life they tried not to interfere because disturbing him would make things worse but i may be wrong

Don't the dumb police ever think that yelling at him and circling him in a damn helicopter just might possibly distract him and cause him to fall? Lol.
They didn't send up the chopper, that's just Hollywood. The cops dealt with it quite responsibly, especially since they didn't want to be culpable in his death if he fell. They didn't lean over trying to grab him, shout at him or stood near his dismounting space. Wait until he's tired, bored or in pain.
