  • Emi loved Arsenal and waited years and years for a chance but they never loved him back. Villa swooped in and the rest is history. We love him and he loves us back. My nephew spotted him at a service station and he took a selfie with Emi. I may be biased but he's the best in the world for me.

  • For us, Argentinians, mind games are part of our football culture. We do it since we're little kids playing football on the street with our friends from our neighbourhoods. Kids could play football on the street for hours, and the games can get quiet savage sometimes. We try to intimidate our opponents as much as we can in order to win, and just like our national anthem goes in the last lines of the lyrics: "crowned with glory we live, or with glory we swear we'll die". We'd rather die than losing a game. However, when the match is over, we all hug each other, share a drink, and just keep chilling all together sitting on the sidewalk. That's why it's hard for us to be intimidated in football. Watching El Dibu doing all those mind games was like seeing an Argentian little kid playing football on the street with his friends as part of his everyday life. ❤ We're crazy, I know, but that's the way we are, and we love it! 😊❤

  • El argentino siempre empujó las reglas a otro nivel. Maradona movía hacia atrás el balón, en los tiros libres, para darle más distancia con la barrera. Simeone pedía la pelota a los rivales llamándoles por su nombre de pila. Esta bestia habla e intimida al pateador, usa cualquier método para crearles tensión. Lo mejor que tiene este psicópata divino es lo bien que se para en el área. Siempre está cerca del rival para achicar ángulos de tiro. Muchas veces parece que le disparan al cuerpo pero en realidad es él quien está bien ubicado. El mejor portero de los últimos años y el que lo odien y menosprecien hace que lo amemos aún mas.

  • Mind games are effective. I play as a striker, but when I tried goalkeeping for the first time, I was able to stop a penalty. I was joking with the player and felt a kind of confidence I never experienced before. As the goalie, you must treat the goalpost as your house and the player taking the penalty or attempting to score as an intruder who must be stopped at all costs. I can guarantee that if you have this kind of mentality as a goalie, you will always keep a clean sheet. Though not always, it will help you stay motivated and ready to prevent any player from scoring most of the time.

    • Mindgames can be effective, as you stated, but are absolutely useless without skill. In other words, you can play all the mindgames you want but you need to also back that up with actual goalkeeper ability in order to achieve results

    • Thank you for sharing! Everybody that takes part in a penalty kick feels pressure, both shooter and goalkeeper. A great tip is to first try to control your breath. Because your body is letting you know it's something happening that make you nervous. But it's only signals from your body and thoughts, right? By controlling your breath first, it can help direct those thoughts in a constructive way. Good luck in the development :D

  • vHe won the last 5 penalty shootouts he had. It's not just mental work, he has excellent technique and takes advantage of his height to save penalties. He uses everything in his favor, plus he knows the penalty takers he faces. It's much more than just his mind.

  • The best thing that happened to Martinez is he left Arsenal at the right time. It was the also the worst thing for Arsenal, coincidentally. A goalie like him, they would have pocketed the Premier League last year. Some coaches do not like strong personalities, EtH, Arteta ,Pep amongst them.

  • Fifa new rule is unfair for GK, Fifa really making this game the strikers game. Fifa maybe trying to be like NBA that soften up so many fouls and free throws given. However Fifa forget that in Basketball there is no GK like in Football. GK already has disadvantage at PK (70% goal chance) and still they nerf the GK so they can barely safe any kick (maybe they want them only safe 10%) Also if new offside rules is used, i think fifa is cannot make any good rule anymore. I know game with less goal is not as entertaining as the game with many goals. However if the goals scored easily, then the fun on scoring goal also less hyped. There is no dramatic comeback by weaker team anymore, where weaker team snatches a 1-0 win against big teams.
