    @barbbrown9489@barbbrown94898 жыл бұрын
    • +Barb Brown Hi Barb. I'd heard about that, but is it true for both African and Indian elephants? The trunk on this fellow can be turned upwards, but then he'd stick out a long way from the wall, and in my little house I'd keep running into him. ;)

  • On my last reindeer model, I used plaster bandage over the paper/carton base. This gave strength to the fragile structure. Especially at the base of the horns. My home made paper paste is not so smooth as yours. I have to check the recept. Why not use plaster?

    @petermarcglider@petermarcglider6 жыл бұрын
    • Do you mean using plaster in the paste? I do, when I make paper mache using blue shop towels. It dries hard if you really soak the towels well with the paste, and even brush extra paste on top.

  • What do you use on the BACK of your sculptures for HANGING them? Any suggestions...I am having a hard time finding anything that shows this part of the process for making sure things you hang are secure from the BACK of the sculpture...PLEASE HELP...THANK YOU!!

    @sparkjunk@sparkjunk5 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Spark. There's a pattern piece for the back. Did you find it? I have two ways to hang my wall sculptures. The easy way is to drill a hole in the back piece, about an inch from the top. Then I slip the hole over a nail, and call it good. Another way is to attach it to a wall plaque using a good epoxy glue. To make sure the back piece stays flat, don't cover it, except for the very edges, with paper mache. Then glue it to your wooden plaque. I hope this helps.

  • Is it safe to use joint compound in my air-dry clay?

    @JakeBoer@JakeBoer7 жыл бұрын
    • I'm not sure what you mean by "safe." Do you mean is it edible? The answer would be no. If you sand it after it dries, you need to use a dust mask, but you always need to do that when you sand, anyway.

      @UltimatePaperMache@UltimatePaperMache7 жыл бұрын
    • I was just wondering, if it touches your skin for prolong periods with their be any harmful affects from using it in your clay mixture? By the way, thanks for responding.

  • Hi Jonny, i would like to pay for the print out for a larger elephant head mantle, with tusks and a more serious look. Can you help me with that?

    @joseybelle7908@joseybelle79084 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Josephine. I don't make patterns on commission - they each take over a month to create, and I really don't have the time. However, many people have used this pattern and altered the shapes by printing it larger, and adding tusks made with crumpled foil and masking tape. The expression can be changed with the foil, too, before adding your paper mache.

  • +Samantha Geelal I use Silo for the design process, and then move it to Pepakura to turn it into a papercraft pattern. They both cost money, unfortunately, although there may be free versions that I don't know about.

  • Can you prepare no flour paper mache and store it? If so how long may you do so?

    @UKnowMeIMURDaddy@UKnowMeIMURDaddy5 жыл бұрын
    • I don't know how long it will keep. Someone told me that she made some paper mache clay without flour and it kept for a year, but I don't know if she kept it in the freezer or not. Without the flour there would be no yeast, and it's yeast that makes paper mache paste smell bad after a few days. If you do some experiments with it, let us know how long it keeps.

      @UltimatePaperMache@UltimatePaperMache5 жыл бұрын
  • I was told by someone who collected every form of elephant; that if the trunk wasn't turned upward it was bad luck. So if it just pertained to one type of elephant or not; I know not. You said you run into it; maybe if you put the trunk up over the head as far as you can. Maybe then you wouldn't hit it. Just an idea.

    @barbbrown9489@barbbrown94898 жыл бұрын
  • I made clay using paper shreds and it just is not nearly as smooth. Any hints for making it better?

    @wompol7117@wompol71175 жыл бұрын
    • I don't know it it's possible to get it as smooth as the toilet paper. Some people soak the recycled paper overnight, and then throw it in the blender with plenty of water. But it will still have a lot of texture. You could also try using less paper - it will still be quite strong if you use less.

    • Quite a few people have used the elephant head in theater productions, but each person does it a different way. He's too big for the headdress, though, and the actor wouldn't be able to see out. Jenny, one of my blog readers, printed the pattern a lot larger and made it out of EVA foam. It will be worn by two people, I think, after the back end is done. We haven't seen how it looks when it's finished, though. You can see it here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/elephant-head-eva-foam
