How A Pro Gamer Successfully Faked His Death (For The Dumbest Reason)

When Sketchek would die unexpectedly in Late 2015, his audience, and the entire Team Fortress 2 community, were understandably devastated. Extensive tribute videos were posted to KZhead dedicated to Sketchek’s incredible skill level, users on reddit would pour their hearts out in threads that discussed how Sketchek had influenced their play style, all while the developers of team fortress 2 would add a weapon attribute to the game in memory of sketchek’s life. The only problem was, Sketchek wasn't really dead.
This is, How A Pro Gamer Successfully Faked His Death (For The Dumbest Reason)
Thank you guys for watching, like and sub if you enjoyed, SunnyV2 XO ❤
The idea for this video was partially inspired by TheGamerFromMars's video in October 2019 titled "The KZheadrs That Faked Their Deaths - Internet Mysteries". You can watch his version here - • The KZheadrs That Fak...

Internet relationships (whether they be one sided hypothetical relationships with a content creator, online friends on discord, or just people you know on the internet) are very fragile. In the sense that, if someone suddenly stops all online activity, you have no way of knowing what actually happened to them. It's kind of sad to think that something like this might happen to some of us in the days to come, and none of us would be any the wiser about what happened to them. It's kind of sad.

A came into the groupchat one night saying some VERY concerning suicidal stuff, and then suddenly disappeared without any context. Nothing. Gone. I reached out on every platform I could think of, I was either blocked on everything or they deleted everything. I was on the verge of a panic attack, my friend E WAS panicking and I was about to call the police because I knew the general area they lived in. • As someone who has been in the TF2 community for a long time I can confidently say a large majority of people watching TF2 youtubers are beyond unhinged and have no sense of boundaries. Had he just quit his audience would have thrown a fit, I don't agree with him faking his death, but having seen other TF2 youtuber's audiences do a total 180 on them and become almost hostile because they either want to branch out, or got bored with TF2. If it's to be believed that he felt videogames were ruining his life, it's probably true he was suffering from some degree of mental illness, and I can sort of understand why he would lie about his leaving, especially if he's seen other people in the community face backlash for not wanting to play the game anymore. I think the the terms of morality on youtube, stating you have a terminal illness of some sort isn't the worst thing anyone could do. I don't like the fact that he had donations on his channel, that's really scummy in my opinion. However this doesn't really hurt as many people as some of the awful stuff other youtubers have done (scams, false flags, child exploitation etc)

    • Internet went from 2012-2019 being the extremely harsh/horrible levels of dark humor with no boundaries, to 2020-2022 where everyone gets too sensitive and has to share their opinion on any matter. It just sounds like Sketchek said, it was a horrible joke, but when he made those vids saying «un named terminal illness» or whatever, atleast he pulled his sick joke by vaguely mentioning shit and letting the fanbase build the rest of that story in their imagination. I feel like it would’ve been a lot worse if he genuinely faked cancer or ALS or named an illness that people have lost lives to. I remember being a teen online 2012-2017, it was so fucking normal for people to say «get cancer you fucking loser» as like an attempt at dark humor, but now that shit just feels so childish because most of us grew up beyond that.

A lot of tf2 fans seem to think if a creator got their start through tf2, they now belong to tf2 forever and can't do anything else or they are abandoning and failing the community that made them popular in the first place. Since there's a lot of toxic fans like that there would be a pressure to not be honest. The community might turn on him as quickly as they did to people like STAR_. Dying seems like he would go through a lot less drama in the short term since no one could really get mad at someone leaving tf2 for that reason.

Do you even know what it's like to be popular enough that that kind of harassment is pretty much a given? It's not nearly as easy to ignore as you think. It's not the same as somebody just leaving you an angry comment which can be easily ignored. It's thousands of people ganging together trying to dog pile and destroy you in any way possible. I feel like when you don't deal with that sort of level of harassment that comes from popularity it's really easy to try to play a moral high ground and just be like, "ignore it." cause they've never had a crazy fan going to their grandmother's Facebook page to harrass their family, or call their job lying and saying they've been stealing, or calling the police to swat their house. Beloved or not, this dude casually faked having a terminal illness just because he "wanted to go out with a bang", something that's incredibly disingenuous and extremely gross to be regarding so flagrantly. I know that people can change and it could have been a matter of him regretting his action years later, a lot can change even in 3 years, but from the video played it doesn't seem like that, it just seems like a casual shrug like "oh btw i faked my illness but i wanna make videos again haha". It tells me that he didn't really understand the gravity of what he had done at the time, even after three years of letting it settle in. Then had to spend a year or 2 wandering Japan as a hikki until he was basically saved by a friend. There are reasons why some people go off the deep end at times and I am just happy he is doing well mentally these days. I do agree he should have been just straightforward and admitted to the reason why he had to leave, I think people would have been quite understanding and empathetic. But young edgy teens on the internet thought "going out with a bang" like that was the thing to do. Internet culture can be quite the drug.

    • I think times have changed from the early 2010's Internet culture wise. As we can see here from the wide-ranging sentiment that faking chronic illness is a bad thing otherwise. Sketchek talked in his apology video wanting to make it as hard as possible to come back as at the time he left he thought that the video game addiction he had was ruining his life as I said earlier. The point I do want to make is, today 2022-wise people are much more accepting of mental health issues and saying "hey my parents are kicking me out of the house, I won't have access to the internet in a stable manner for a long time and I need time for myself to get better" I think folks will understand. But from what I gathered, the TF2 fanbase at the time would probably had just made fun of it or whatever. Which is why if you look for his Sketchek content nowadays it's been scrubbed by him. He wanted a fresh start away from all this drama, and I am quite happy that he is at a better place living plus mental health wise, and with what content he is creating nowadays.

      @NettoAzure@NettoAzure Жыл бұрын
    • What if I told you, he lied about all of that? That it was just a sick joke and to manipulate the narrative to bring in more viewers.
