My biggest gripe is finding old clothing. When searching for key terms, the page is flooded with the same ctrl c+v as it has been for years already.
Again, I would check out the inventories of some old profiles! You can find a bunch of them by looking through Froast's forum archive

I don't think we should be dressing classic to be seen as a veteran or earn ppl's respect lol, I like the classic style because it's simple and cute and it feels so uniquely Roblox; modern avatars look like they're from a different game 💀 I joined in 2015 but don't really look the part since I just put random stuff together, thanks for this vid! It was really helpful :(
This!! I feel the exact same way, I sometimes dress like this on roblox just because its simple and nice and i think it looks cool, not to earn peoples respect. I don't care if you dont respect me
@@Goose88 based dude
People just try to express their own aesthetic in the avatar, nowadays people wear Emo, weeb and cute softie aesthetics and so on, with items they made themselves, while in old times people had to use what the shop got or the random leftover items on their inventory
Yeah speaking as someone who joined in 2011 that's the exact reason I choose to dress retro! Simply, eyecatcing, easy.
@@mtlins7 people have been dressing emo weeb cute whatever sense the beging lol
I joined during 2017, but I really like the style of old roblox avatars not because of its nostalgia but because it's straightforward and simple. I have an avatar that uses the brickbattle skin colors and even though I equipped 2 UGC items I still liked it because of how simple and clean it looked.
same but 2018
2016 for me
i did join in 2017 too, and oh boy things were better than nowadays. you remember when u didnt know what to play or how to play but nowadays people are getting toxic and overall just getting worse

Same here lol
The reason why a majority of players are having issues with making these avatars is because they didn't play roblox during that period, there were numerous avatar trends they never knew about, and they generally dont know what people during that time usually wore. You don't see a player in 2012 wearing UGC items or any items made after 2012.
And I'm here unable to make them not because of the reason you stated, but because I have a certified lack of robux
I beg to differ, my friends who joined when they were really young wear ugc all the time. The real ones enjoy ugc outfits more as it allows more creativity than what they were stuck with. I have a handful of friends who joined when they were like 7

this reminded me of an old "Classic" avatar i made a while back. it was supposed to be a mix of the old and the new, i used new UGC and a few old looking accessories with skintone edits. it looked pretty good and people actually considered it classic enough, i like to show how the new and old look together with avatars usually and this video helped me out. thanks.

Damn, I had no clue that so many people want to be like the classic avatars, as someone who actually played during 2008 and still does to this day as a developer, it’s surprising to see this because personally, the old avatars weren’t as nice as there are now. Way more options now. But really, to make an old avatar, chuck on a visor or a crown, have a gear, and use a nice png t shirt
I agree as a 2009er
Newer player here, the appearance of older ROBLOX avatars is simple, unique and mysterious. Sure, it is quite limited but it stands out and represents what ROBLOX was originally supposed to be.
Fr, being stuck with the 3 hat limit for so long really leaves a bad taste for classic avatars in a classic player’s mouth
2:35 I've been feeling that Headless Horseman is like my favorite package not only because of the invisible head, but because of the full gothic body, and the epic pumpkin. Same happens with Deathspeaker, I would use the full package as well.
How did u get it it’s so much robux
@@bigguy5029Through trading, buying the robux is just say too expensive.
Edit: after 2013 your character didnt have studs Note! if you are using a studed shirt make sure that the stud texture matches up with the dates of the shirt for example have the stud texture be the stud style of the newest item you're wearing. All the times roblox changed the stud texture: early 2009, later in 2009, 2013 (which was probably when studs on characters got removed)
Yessir!
Another interesting thing is that inlet pants aren't exactly accurate. Old Roblox avatars never had inlets on their feet because it could connect them to the studs on the ground, making the avatar immovable.
pretty sure studs on blocky avatars werent a thing in2017
@@Milennium1902I think you confused roblox with lego since both are just textures, the ground and studs on limbs

Something else that could help you find classic accessories: *Most* classic items have a unique name, such as: The Azure Gate Bridge or Headdress of Aken-Aten, the Sun King. These items describe themselves as unique according by their names. They literally describe what they are in a unique way. What I mean in "a unique way" is that it's a one and only item, that there's only of it.
so you want me to search for the green vomit azure green fedora?
how am i suppoused to know what im searching for is gonna be tgat like if i search for green something pink pops up
I've always had the gripe of people with korblox and headless, saying it's a total waste of money if not used with the full set. And I'm happy that I'm not the only one that thinks that. I prefer these classic avatars nonetheless. I Also have a pseudo-classic avatar at the moment that I'm always minorly changing with new different items that fit the vibe I'm on. So right now I'm on the whole vaporwave vibes.
Though I joined 2019/2018, I've always loved old avatars. I've tried making an old avatar of my own but it never felt right. After watching this I've made an avatar I'm pretty happy with, thank you for making this!

This is SO helpful! Thank you!!! I've been wanting to make classic avatars for a long time, but I couldn't find a detailed tutorial like this one.
I either use guests, or 2011-2014 default, they're easy to make and are quite good looking even today, they have style, and generally look rather more interesting than most modern outfits.
honestly i WISH roblox would add a feature where you can type in the time period of accessories or clothing. I REALLY WISH

This video was very informative, not many people get straight to the point, but you did. Now I can create multiple old skins without having to wait 30 mins. Thanks
The 2012 style is really cool. I joined Roblox in 2016 and had to adapt to the style from then on. I have gone through several styles, but I always had this love for a style from 2012 and 2015 (looking at people's old designs or videos of the time, I found it interesting between the two dates) and several times I base myself on that, because it is the style with the one i feel comfortable with (now styles aren't bad but just way out of my style) and i really love this video, thanks for this content, keep it up :)
this video REALLY helped me out. i tried making classic avatars back in early 2022, and they did a lot of the things that were frowned upon in the video. so i made a 2008 style avatar going off of the old roblox tralier, but ended up really liking the 2012-2014 era a lot more and followed the video (mostly about package use) and i love how my avtar turned out! thank you. you need more subs
i still went back to an avatar i made in that early 2022 era too though, because i made an obby centered around it and felt like it needed a revamp, so i did! it wasnt really classic, but it was to me. honestly i think thats the best kind of classic avatar, having sentimental value to your own imperfections
I was following along with this video while making an avatar with a budget of 47 robux and random items I own. The end result is honestly pretty good. Thanks for the advice :D !!!
This is an incredibly well explained and well thought out video, and thanks to this video I’ve been able to make a more accurate classic-styled avatar!
as someone who came from 2010, if you wanna use ugc, my best advice is to use it in a way which makes it so you're less going for an "era" and more just a general idea
Bro you made this movie quality this is the first channel I saw about classic avatars. Definitely a sub you're like the old og underrated version of KonekoKitten especially with the mic lol. Wouldn't doubt if others have noticed that
I love making classic avatars, though it can feel a bit hard to get something quite right. Currently I go for a 2012-2013ish style because what’s what I grew up with, but I make earlier style avatars too. Hopefully this video helps me create better and more accurate avatars Really hope roblox gives us some sorta “search by date” type feature one day for clothes Edit: wow this video is super useful thank you so much
so glad this video blew up and ur youtube career is finally taking off at long last
4:50 From what I know, in April 2016 the classic ":D" face got replaced with "Happy :D". The difference isn't that big but the original face had bigger eyes and some OG players still have it nowadays.
No way! I had no idea this was a thing! I thought classic avatars had been abandoned completely but it's nice to see some people are still going for that classic look. A part of me kind of wants to get back into Roblox, though not sure
As another fellow 2016er I don't have much to talk about other than the fact these avatars look a lot something I would see on the cover of Catalog Heaven so I perceive em as hella accurate!! All of these have a certain vibe to them and it hit me when you mentioned your opinion on the ":]" & ":D" faces because I didn't expect others to feel a specific/"stereotypical" stigma to some accessories! Great video!

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy :)
I like the ending a lot, and it made me think of one of my outfits where I wore a bright red fez, it probably looked really bad, but I liked it
I'm not much of a fan of the old style, but I love the accessories from back then. Thanks for the video!
the mystery city clothes are great for classic avatars imo. cheap, stylish, and has great synergy
I remember when most of my toons would merely wear only the red roblox cap, default face, and the torsos and legs would be colored in simple shades of blue, green, red, or gray as stand-in for clothes just because I didnt have robox or a lot of tix those days lol. Ty for bringing back those memories
Just wanted to add onto 8:44, shirt templates are still stored this way, but you'll have to subtract from the ID multiple times until you find the template, and go back + subtract again if you come across any places. With how big the site has become, so many assets are being made at once that the template gets a little bit lost among the sea of things being made at once. But with patience, finding stuff past ~2015 or so is still possible!
i cannot be trusted with this info 😅
Both my accounts are form 2012. My first one which was my main one until 2019 (nearly entering 2020) that account my hacked so I switched to the backup I made all that time ago as well. The two were only 2 months apart. I had a lot of old Roblox items on that one( lots of limited to) but on my now main I recreated a ‘2016’ theme using more Morden items. It made a lot of people happy to see.
Oh man this brings me back, i remember going through dozens of pages of Jeff Hardy shirt and sleeves to find that one colour of them i wanted for my character 🤣
17:30 Can confirm your avatar is cool, everything meshes well, good job
Interesting video, I agree with most of your points. I joined in January 2012 and I remember the prominent styles being: 1. The skater/streetwear type with DC clothes, monster energy stuff, the sk8r boi hats, shaggy, etc. 2. The scene/emo style with the clothes primarily by Shaddic, neon clothes, Domo shirts, Beautiful Hair for Beautiful People, Auburn Scene Hair, hair combos, shutter shades, etc. 3. The swagbro style. 2.0 package, TBK and Adidas clothes. False hair extensions (aka where the hair was just drawn on the shirt) were popular with girls in this style. Funny thing is, even back in 2012 people were saying modern ROBLOX sucked and trying to dress classic. Now people are still saying modern ROBLOX sucks but going after that 2012 drip lol!
i appreciate this video and how it brings light to the history of roblox
My account was made in 2016, but I always loved the look of old avatars. My account is not old and not from the time zones of the old avatars but I still just loved their look and they just give off simple and a good feeling.
This is so true lol. I joined 2011 and when I play games like "flex your account age" I see a lot of accounts that were obviously purchased because they are wearing lost egg and bodycolors only, instead of the regular stupid stuff that people actually had back then.
Back then there were also more Packages that you could buy back then but we’re removed. I don’t know when they were removed but I’m betting some disappeared when rthro came out. The only package I can remember that was removed was the Don’t Tase Me Bro! package.
oh my god bro you helped me so much i literally made an avatar based off of the captains robomilo shirt, and i personally like it. however, what i really wanted was a trac and field shirt, and tbh its hard to find for free
honestly, Indont care much of my avatr looking accurately classic, but this helped me a bit to get a good avatar that looks “classic” to the naked eye while it can have personality traits that would be impossible without UGC or R15 emotes. Good video bro!
Thanks!
sorely tempted to go back to my 2013 egghead outfit after watching this, oh man.... those were the days
i really liked the un-beveled limbs back then, just squares and rectangles with sharp 90° angles
I’m not a classic player (only been on Roblox since 2016), but I love learning more about the sites past and this vid was great! Now I’ll be ready if I ever wanna hit up The Boys and Girls Dance Club with some real old fashioned drip

When I say "making my avatar look classic" I almost always mean making it look like a 2015-2017 avatar 'cause that's when I was new/super active lol. I'd say it's much easier to make an "authentic"-looking 2017-style avatar than it really would probably be to make a pre-2012 one, seeing as it's just a lot easier to find shirts dating back to 2016 or 2017 than it is to find really old stuff.
Amazing guide, pretty accurate from what I saw back in 2010.

I wasn't even here for the classic era (played as a guest in 2017, made first account in 2018, made current in 2019, so yeah, pretty old but not THAT old), and I don't want to pretend I was, but I just love how the classic avatars looked. This helped a lot, thanks.
