As happy as this song sounds, it's a sad song. Actually, he describes his life in a few minutes; In the first verse, he talks about losing everything. An important part is the death of his parents when he was 12/13 years old. In the second verse, he talks about how alone and lonely he is. He also says that he needed help because of depression and homelessness and apparently did not get enough help. I don't understand the reference to stromai (bad in french). The leonardi da vinci (The Last Supper) scene may refer to one of his songs in which he sings that he is god. The Black Guy with 12 Point is a KZheadr who made clips about bulling. Joost has been bullied, and look at him now. If I remember correctly, his father once told him that he should keep writing poetry. The house with the mill is the place in which he grew up (with all the shit) and possibly burning it down, taking a new step into a new world without borders in which he can do whatever he wants.
Stromae's song is called Papaoutai....which means Dad where are you.
This song "Europapa" has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is happy hardcore - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, also called gabber music. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art. The lyrics have a lot of layers: Europe let’s come together! It’s now or never! I love you all! Mja, 't is mijn soort muziek ook niet. Eigenlijk vind ik het nauwelijks muziek.
Ik denk dat je dan heel bedrogen uitkomt. Hij is zelfs in het buitenland mateloos populair. En ach tis weer eens wat anders. Ik kan het wel waarderen zeker met het verhaal erachter.
