So sad, their eyes are still closed so they can't even see what's attacking them. All they feel is the almost nonstop bites and stings from the ants, completely helpless. They thrash around from the intense pain trying to get them off but this just agitates the ants more, causing more bites and stings. Baby birds aren't capable of much in the way of facial expression but at 4:02, the agony the chick is in is blatant on its face. Mouth hanging wide open, eyes clenched shut, it's a haunting visual. The other chick whose eye gets injured seems to fade much faster than the other two. Nature can be cruel.

Ants don't eat animals and insects like predators instantly. Their priority is to bite them constantly till they're tired. And from being tired and very stressed, they die. Then they start with taking them into their nest. That's how ants were and always were. Birds aren't that smart to know where the ant nest is. They build somewhere where it's safe.

@Moonblmuband11 ай бұрын
All right but then the ants could die and he's just choosing one piece of prey over another prey animal. But the bigger issue is that the person is not standing above the nest holding a camera, the camera is placed there and they control it remotely. These live cams are sometimes on these nest 24 hours a day for months at a time. There are not always people nearby to intervene and intervention should only be a last resort for animals that are going extinct or need help building a population. Fact is the only chance these ants had was if the parents could get there in time. It's not the job of people that film nature documentaries or bird live cams too be their security guards 24/7 in effect it would be probably bad for the survival of the species if they intervene too much. I mean humans could theoretically save every single chick but then they would starve to death because their parents wouldn't have enough food for them all. This is why the parents themselves often kill their own chicks or neglect them or the siblings will kill them. Birds are brutal

Ants are found almost everywhere on the planet. The only areas that don't boast populations of ants are Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, and some island nations. Most species live in soil, leaf litter, or decaying plants. | One thing is certain, those ants in this nest are venomous. | I'm highly allergic to fire ant venom and years ago I carried an EPIPIN (Epinephrine injection kit) working in landscape construction in the southeastern US.

Ants like: you see you guys *ARE* causing a disturbance which is why you guys must be dealt wit
This is like something out of a horror movie. First it starts with just a few ants, and eventually there are dozens of ants attacking these nestlings. The mother can't save her brood because there are just too many ants.
It could have picked them up and carried them away one by one. Sadly they are usually not intelligent enough to come up with ideas like this.
That's was a kama law.
@@LordProteus That's why i keep telling it to myself. Animals are not innocent, just reeeeeeeeaaaaally dumb.
It was a long slow death
@@LordProteus They don't possess the ability to remove them. There is no part on the chicks bodies they could grasp without killing them. Looked like the father took a swipe at trying to pick off some ants, it could be they possess a painful bite or sting, eating them is probably painful also.
What kind of ants is these. The whole colony is coming onto the baby. Probably went into the baby mouth too
Now imagine just having tiny ass arthropods eat you alive.
Cometelos a ellos primero
So sad, their eyes are still closed so they can't even see what's attacking them. All they feel is the almost nonstop bites and stings from the ants, completely helpless. They thrash around from the intense pain trying to get them off but this just agitates the ants more, causing more bites and stings. Baby birds aren't capable of much in the way of facial expression but at 4:02, the agony the chick is in is blatant on its face. Mouth hanging wide open, eyes clenched shut, it's a haunting visual. The other chick whose eye gets injured seems to fade much faster than the other two. Nature can be cruel.
My respect for ants to kill these dumbs animals
Depends on you perspective. If you look from the ants point of view, they just fed the entire colony. Hundreds of thousands or millions of them. Still cruel tho I guess either way you look at it, now that I think about it. Lol.

WHELP. looks like that ant colony is gonna have protein for WEEKS
Like other animal parents, birds should take precautions when building the nests. This silly mother surely missed out an ant colony nearby. Thus the gruesome end for her hatch.
Sad that her chicks have to suffer her stupidity
Ants don't eat animals and insects like predators instantly. Their priority is to bite them constantly till they're tired. And from being tired and very stressed, they die. Then they start with taking them into their nest. That's how ants were and always were. Birds aren't that smart to know where the ant nest is. They build somewhere where it's safe.
Definitely a skill issue on the mothers part now that you mention it
Word has it that the blueprints that she used weren't even certified or approved.

Them baby birds are prey at this age so is it prey eating prey then?

I thought ants would eat smaller creatures. First time I've seen him attack a living chick
Ants attacking live nestlings is a common occurrence and usually the parent birds will eat the ants unless the ants are toxic or venomous.
Ants will chew these things down to nothing but bones.

He's not literally holding the camera though it's stationary and he's controlling it remotely I'm pretty sure. Even still what could he do remove them all from the nest.... And then what. Personally remove all the ants, and then bring them back. I don't think that would have been successful. Parents probably would have abandoned them because they were too weak to survive

Ants do not fight honourably.
And instead of helping the birds the person is just filming i saved already 3 little birds two from falling down the nest and another from ants its easy to take care of them the 3 of them survived and are now in the wild

I could identify the species of ant but I need to know what country this nest is located in? | There are more than 12,000 species of ant, most of which are black, brown, or red in color.
