This is the 4th video of a new video series about gadgets, myTech! In short, my partner needs a desktop setup, she likes Apple products and she does not need a top notch device. Hence, let's give an old-dish device a second chance!
I always loved the iMac 27" and I thought I could turn her need into a little project in which I will do my best to invest as little as I can while getting the most out of it . How? You will see!

Awesome work, keep it up bro
Awesome video! great great content!
Amazing work 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Awesome stuff! Loving the detailed video, step and mods you did to it. I do really hope that the iMac serves you well!
Thanks a lot Roy! I am pretty sure you too kcare of it pretty well too! 👌
Can you tell me what termal pads did you use for the graphics card? What is the thickness of them? Thank you.
Nice work bro
Thanks a lot!😃
Perfect man
Thanks so much
You‘re awesome.
Thanks a lot for your appreciation!😉
Hi Javito do you recommend k3100m on 21.5" 2011?
Did universal control work after upgrading the wifi card?
HI have the same machine spec for spec but I get stuck in a boot chime loop whenever i install the new gpu (Quadro k3100m) I was wondering if you could point me towards the right direction to solving this.
Hi there, what thermal grease/paste did you use for the graphics card?
AWESOME VIDEO AS ALWAYS! Had to subscribe! I am looking at doing a K3100M upgrade to my iMac 27 inch as the GPU does bad, stops it from booting up Linux. Which is what I use on it. The only thing I do not know is does the card work with the 2010 version of the Mac 27 inch! :)
Hey! thanks a lot for your comment. You made my day! Maybe you can check that information in Open Core Legacy Patcher: dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/ ? Just saying. Good luck!
@@javitobosch Glad to hear dude, honestly thank you for going through with the topic. Super excited to be doing this, my plans are to get a new GPU sorted in April! :)
Great video!! I found an Imac 27 2011 i7 2tb and 16 ram in the garbage incredible it boot up but with gpu failure I try to fix the original card but I couldn't now I'm waiting the nvidia quadro k4100m from aliexpress and I change to a ssd I hope it works !
Did the quadro worked??? Thinking to get it as well
Did it ever work that’s an interesting upgrade
@@jrockit_ hi Yes it works perfectly!! No problem with brightness control and using last OS with Open core legacy patcher only download and install . For photo editing(lightroom , photoshop) no problem it can handle photos from a7iv 33mpx but in video only 1080p , and other things web browsing , documents I think for normal use not heavy editing it works like a charm(now I have 20gb of ram )
@@dwaynethomas9265 I answer now to other guy . Yes it works!!!
@@NAM3L3555just bought one for my 2011. Is there any modification i need to do to the heatsink?
Did u broke the pins on the CPU socket? because I bought the I7 2600 and does fit on my iMac 2009 and 2010 models.
Hey WLKGOD! Sorry, I have been abroad and this week has been intense at work. The iMac I have is a mid2011. The most complete model of this segment already included the i72600, so I did not have to buy any CPU or modify the socket. About that, be careful, because sockets are specifically made for a certain type of CPU. If the CPU from other models/years fit, it does not mean that it will work. I think "everymac" is a rather detailed webpage where you can find further information about your model. Success!
Can the ALT splash screen be displayed after the graphics card is upgraded?
Hi! What do you mean with the ALT screen? I guess it is not the boot menu upon the computer's start after keeping the "option" key pressed, correct?
Are the links for BCM94360CD WIFI + BT + miniPCIe adaptor right? I see only a solo card, no adapter.
Ha! These guys (Aliexpress) completely changed the product! Thanks for letting me know =). Just changed the link to what I got and I know it is working (all included). Price is ~10% more expensive if I compare it to the one I bought months ago. Also, I know in the add description it says that it is valid for iMac2013, but it also works for iMac2011. It is a mPCIe adapter and the BCM9430CD =)
My iMac 2010 shut down randomly after changing PSU

I am laughing my ass here off man haha!
You can short the 1st and the 4th wires. Not 2 and 7. Google it
Hi Anas! Thanks for taking your time watching the video. Could you please be more specific, so other viewers can follow? Many thanks!
Good day. I have the same iMac also with an upgraded GPU to a k3100m by a tech guy. Before everything is working nicely, I am using high sierra. But when I reset the PRAM, the display brightness control is missing. Do you know how can I get back the brightness control?
Hey froi rivera! I think you erased the stored settings from the GPU firmware patch. I don't know if you actually have OpenCore installed in your computer, but usually after installation you run "Post-install root patch" and that solved the issue for me last time I could not adjust the brightness anymore. The computer was also very slow. Let me know if this helped!
@@javitobosch Having high sierra OS, I booted on CATALINA via external drive and did the steps below. After reboot the brightness was now in 100% but still the controls was missing. So I just installed a 3rd party on the Apstore called BRIGHTNESS CONTROL. Post-installation Requirements: Brightness Control Stepping Mod: -Turn computer on, hold down Command(⌘)-R -Choose Utilities > Terminal -Enter:csrutil disable -MacOS Catalina: requires you to make root writeable: sudo mount -uw / -You can download 'Hackintool v3.05' , navigate to Hackintool_Tools.png menu, use the Hackintool_House.png icon at the bottom to disable gatekeeper and mount the disk in read/write mode. -Download and open 'Kext Utility v2.6.6' -Navigate to S/L/E (System/Library/Extensions) -Copy "AppleBacklight.kext" to Desktop -Edit: AppleBacklight.kext/Contents/Info.plist -Scroll down to: IOKitPersonalities > AppleIntelPanelA > ApplePanels -There you find several Apple LCD profiles. -For the iMac 2011 27" machine locate: Code: F10Ta007 ABEABgALABQAHAAnADMAPwBOAFwAZwBzAIEAkQClAL8A2wD/ -Change the section to: ABEAAgA3AF8AigCzAOsBJAFnAakB1AIJAlQCogL4A00DlgRpBGk= -Drag your modded kext into Kext Utility, allow it correct permissions -"Applebacklight.kext.bak" folder will be created -Reboot
@@froirivera hi, did your lcd backlight also adjusted when brightness control adjustment, I still have hd6970 in my 27 imac catalina, I can adjust the brightness using brightness slider app from app store but the lcd backlight stays bright at 100% causing much heat, i want to upgrade to k3100m and just want to make sure that the lcd backlight will work normally.
my iMac is stuck on the apple logo after I changed the CPU and installs everything and formats the disk but when it goes to Start to the first settings of the new install stays on the apple logo loading. don't know what is going on
Hi WLKGOD. Thanks for reaching me. I suggest you try to place the old CPU back to see if everything works. If so, you found the problem! May I as what CPU are you using (e.g. i7-2600S or i7-2600)?
@@javitobosch I try out PRM, hard reset all of it and it’s strange because I can make everything formatting, installing the OS and it gets stuck doing the loading screen in the end. I don’t remember I will check.
Sure. Take your time and if it does not work today, then leave it aside and try again in a few days. iMacs are picky. It could also be that you are using a corrupted MacOS copy, or a version that is not supported (assuming that you are not using Open Core)
@@javitobosch no no I’m using direct from the recovery of the iMac. I wanted to try with older Os like LION and maybe that helps.
@@javitobosch the cpu inside is a I7 860 that was not working
How do you have 32 gig of memory in a 2011? Mine is limited to 16
Hi! Thanks for your question! Technically yes, but if you type in google the CPU model you have (mine is i72600) you will see that the "Maximum Memory Size" for this very CPU is 32GB (4x8GB DDR3). Now, Apple do not recommend that but it is possible. Try to use the DDR3 RAM, not the DDR3L (low voltage) if you fancy a try.
What seller did you buy the k3100m from? I'd like to get one that is already flashed
Hi MrTruthAddict! Apologies for the late reply. It is all in the description. It was from Aliexpress and in the add description already specified that the GPU was flashed already for MacOS. nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005001876690765.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.7a1a4c4d3EXjX4
Good work, but next time, speak up. Stop whispering bro.
Hi Pile! Thanks for your remark! Will keep it in mind for the next one!
