  • Nikon putting out a strong competing camera at an aggressive price point is great for the industry. Everyone benefits in the long-term when competition is fierce. I'm a legacy Nikon shooter and chose to pre-order the Z8. I'm upgrading from a D750 so it will be a monster of an upgrade for me. • People were comparing flagship models Z9 vs A1 vs R3, now Z8 almost same as Z9 apart from ergonomics and battery, it's $2500 less than A1.. that's incredible and very aggressive price..

    @abhishekdey1144@abhishekdey1144 Жыл бұрын
    • Exactly, but I'm not getting one after seeing the battery performance. My main bodies are the D6, but I have and use the D850 as well. I really wish the Z8 would've allowed for an adapter to use the EN-EL18D batteries in the vertical grip. I get that most people don't buy the Z8 along with the grip, but I am someone who's always used flagships and or prosumer bodies with grip. It's amazing what the Z8 can do, especially for the price point. it cost me at least $4,000 USD for the D850 plus grip kit! So getting 20fps, 8K 60, internal ProRes RAW, etc., etc., is amazing, however the battery life is a deal breaker. Nikon screwed up with the vertical grip option. It takes two batteries but not in a way that helps me and there is no adapter to use EN-EL18 series batteries. I have D6 (x2) and D850 with grip and three EN-EL18d batteries...and I rarely charge them...they last me weeks at times. Carrying and needing extra batteries is just not for me. At least the Z8 has made the cost of used Z9's come down, so I might just one day get a Z9 and replace my D850 and one D6, and just have a D6/Z9 combo. However I am still not sure I want to do this, because I actually really prefer OVF over EVF...as I have light sensitivity issues related to my TBI/CTE. The Canon R3's OVF simulation mode is about the best I've seen in an EVF and the Z9 is not bad, but I do prefer the OVF experiences, especially when shooting for hours or all day long. We are already starring at blue light screens all day, from our phones to laptops, etc.! One last sorta concerning point for me is that I know of at least 5 different Z9 users who've had to send their Z9's in for service and repairs, within the 1 year warranty period. I've shot every Nikon flagship and prosumer camera made since 1999, when I sold my F5/F100's for the D1! it's amazing the D1 was $4999 in 1999, and over two decades later, you can buy the latest Z9 flagship for less money, when inflation is added in. Kudos to Nikon for breaking barriers on price and innovation. The 800pf lens another example if just how well Nikon is doing compared to the competition. Canon is gluing EF-RF adapters to old super-tele lenses and calling them new RF super-tele's and now they've glued 2x TC's onto the back of 400mm f/2.8L IS III and 600mm f/4L IS III lenses and adding a mount adapter, than magically they have 800mm f/5.6 and 1200mm f/8 lenses for nearly $20,000? Meanwhile Nikon is innovating, releasing brand new optical designs with built in1.4x teleconverter's! Not only the Nikon 400mm and 600mm primes sharper than their Canon counterparts, they are also much more usable or versatile with the built-in 1.4x TC. Effectively giving you both a 400mm f/2.8 and a 560mm f/4 or a 600mm f/4 or 840mm f/5.6, for less money than the Canon, since you'd need two lenses or have to attach a TC in the field, which is never fast or pretty. Now I'm splitting hairs here IQ wise, truth is Canon also makes amazing lenses. It's just Nikon is innovating in so many ways, that I feel in some ways, Nikon is embarrassing Canon and Sony. Once you buy a grip and two CFexpress Type A card's...the Sony A1 costs over $7,200 USD. So the Z9 and Z8 are definitely ground breaking!

      @patricksmith2553@patricksmith255310 ай бұрын
    • yeah I mean the only reason to pay the ridiculous price for the A1 was flagship specs in a small body. Now the Z8 offers that for $4000. Plus better lens prices. Unless you are a Sony super fan, there is basically no reason to go with an A1 anymore.

    • @@josh885 Especially since Sony rarely if ever offers discounts and then the huge issue of no firmware updates? I’ve never liked Sony cameras due to their ergonomics and feel in my hands. However their image quality and autofocus is amazing and I’m not against Sony, it’s just not for me. I’m a dual Nikon D6 and D850 backup shooter. I’m a photojournalist, so battery life, durability and survivability, along with low light performance is most important! This is why I’ve decided to stay with the D6. I bought a Z9 NPS priority and was not impressed with the noise performance. Also the built in Wifi/wireless is not reliable enough for me. I use and have been using the WT-6A and formally the WT-5A since 2014 with the D4s and it’s 100% reliable and works up to 650ft range! Whereas the SnapBridge and built wireless is much less reliable and only has a very short range. Being able to transmit images immediately from my D6’s is so important and the Z9 just can’t compete. It lacks a port for the wireless adapter. So does the Canon R3, so I’m really not sure where to go in the future. I guess I’ll keep using the D6? Should last me another 5 years?

I will need to get another Z9. Also brings up the question on FPS with and without the battery grip. they also cut out the FPS dial on the top left and need to use function button instead. to compare with other camera manufacturers...this was the easiest and cheapest way to kill the competition without doing any R&D. They didn't really hit the mark for current Z9 users. for Z7 and Z6 owners, great upgrade..but then why wouldn't they just jump to a Z9 considering after buying battery grip, only 900 dollars off. used Z9 will kill all lol Z8 just missed the mark for current Z9 users, for me anyhow.

  • In some cases, Nikon's lenses are so much lighter that the weight difference will vanish up the chimney, with Santa! Battery life - I've seen the squawks, they always shriek at mirrorless battery life - I've also read a review, already, by someone who shot THOUSANDS of frames on the Z8 and battery life simply was not an issue. Maybe it's our own fault? - it varies with our own competence, not the camera's? One "squawker" was telling us the Z8 couldn't cope with fast video - I suggested maybe he should just take the SD card out and all would be well. He bit my head off. Two days later, another pro discussed the same issue and told the world exactly what I'd said - if the SD card is too slow for the shoot, take it out for that shoot - you can put it back afterwards, and have NO problems. That's three issues. So far, all I've seen is "difference" that is not a real "problem". In each case, there seems to be a solution. Quoi? Here's one they CAN'T argue with. Nikon's mirrorless range has a uniquely Nikon solution to attaching the lenses. Meaning all sorts of things suddenly improve dramatically. Sorry to the rest of them - on that basis alone, I'm going with the Nikon Mirrorless range. Have one already - now I have to save up for this one! - just as well I haven't pre-ordered, the wait will help me no end.

  • Mainly interested in video and got the FX3 for that. For photo I think Nikon is king. I never liked the ergos of Sony alpha series. The Z8 beats the R5 and A7r5 because of the stacked sensor, insane video specs and ergos. The af of the z9 is better than on my fx3. It’s at the point where it’s really more than good enough. Af is the only thing that Sony fanboys still cling onto, which at this point becomes silly as the af from Canon and Nikon Z8/Z9 is more than good enough.

  • I'm not quite getting the rationale behind basically cloning the Z9 in a slightly smaller body and making it a little cheaper. I would have preferred a slightly cheaper body with slightly better video than just 8-bit h264. I guess the Z6iii is probably more what I'm waiting for.

  • Here's something to think about. The z6/z7 were cameras that were put out just to get something out there. The 2nd gen bodies are a little better but we've been disappointed that they haven't been improved with more firmware updates. And you are right, we do get updates quite often. One thing people are overlooking is that Nikon has been putting quality lenses out. Most of the z lenses have little to no focus breathing or chromatic aberration. The z mount is the king of mounts. We can adapt more lenses than any other system. We can't adapt Sony, Canon EF, Minolta and many offers. Nikon also allows third party companies to manufacture lenses unlike Canon (they will be soon). There's a saying in photography. Date the camera and marry the lenses. I think that's why it's taken so long for Nikon to catch up with the cameras compared to what Canon has put out. Sony has been there for a while I'm the mirrorless system and Canon had the M line so it's not new to them. And now the zf has just come out. That's an interesting camera. Especially for street photography. It gives us a look at what the third gen z6/z7 will be like. I think the z6 III will have even better video features. I think it will be around a 33 MP range and will have 6k video. And look at the new 135mm f/1.8 Plena just came out. Wow! That's a lens you need to look into and do a video on. The z8 will probably be my next body. I'm saving up for it. I might sell my z6 II when the z6 III comes out. I want you see what will be different between it and the zf.

  • It’s not a modern day d850. The d850 was the best camera nikon made when it was released. It was an all new sensor so good that for most people the advantages the d5 had over it wasn’t worth the much worse IQ from the d5. The better comparison is the d700, which came out after the flagship d3 and had the same sensor and AF system for much less money.

  • Honestly I would switch to Nikon with this camera but for one reason; lenses. I shoot wildlife and can't really afford the sweet but high priced lenses from Nikon. I love my Sony 200-600, and feel that while Sony bodies for wildlife are falling behind (A9 and A1) at its price point the Sony 200-600 provides a performance better than alternatives from Canon or Nikon. I can say I'm hoping for the Sony A9III fixes some of the shortfalls, but I fear it will still be 24MP and will jump in price to $5K. Nikon bodies are enviable right now.

D700 is basically a smaller version of D3 with only minor differences while everything else is similat, giving working pros a lighter, cheaper back up body with similar capabilities.

  • one of the most important words from your video Manny is " Unbiased content " that why im still here after many years thanks for that . Sony's firmware policy and the fact they skyrocketed their price for example on the A7 Range which is seems to be the " Basic" Shocked and desappointed me . Nikon take time to shake their world and the Market but their do it with the Z9 and now with the Z8 with the price . Canon extend their range whearas Sony only extend vlog range ( honestly i dont understand their strategy , who is the real target) and i feel their fear to canibalize the different range , so put less effort in improvement of the A7 Range : 2 generations ( A7 III , A7 IV) with 10 FPS in electronic and mechanical Shutter when Canon renew quickly the R6 with the Mark II with 40 Fps on the electronic shutter . they have also the leadership in some technologies like the new triple stacked sensor which was announced since the end of 2021 , but they prefer to raised their price in a Unlegitimate way without some true contributions ...
