My battery is low and it's getting dark. NASA's Opportunity has come to the end of a 15 year mission on Mars. But what did it discover? This episode focuses on its trip around Victoria crater!

  • My mind is blown away at all of this! I began looking at Mars through a 60mm refractor telescope when I was only 12 years old. I used to sit outside on cold nights and sketch the planet. My imagination was going wild. Now, I'm looking at these high resolution photos and it really does blow my mind.

  • I just wonder if humans ever make it to Mars what it would be like to find one of these rovers after so many years. I mean there's probably no point and it would require a stupid amount of effort and resources to get there unless they setup basecamp nearby. But still, I imagine it would be quite epic to retrieve one of these rovers.

  • It's incredible how clever NASA engineers are and the amount of control they built in. Knowing what time of day electrical resistance was the least and having the ability to deliver more power to the motor than usual is like NASA's version of "the fonz" fix when he hit the jukebox to make it work again lol

  • This documentary is delightful! I've never watched anything from Astrum before. This seems well paced, well researched and above all, easy on the ear - no strident accent and clear pronunciation. I also appreciate the good grammar - no errors or mispronunciations to distract you. I wish other content providers could emulate these good features.

  • People discuss, "can robots ever be considered alive? if advanced AI arrives, will people treat it as a concious being?" And right here in the comments section, people are talking to and about Opportunity as a brave little dog they wish wont die. Proves it right there, doesnt it? A robot can most certainly be respected as a living entity, depending on what it accomplishes. We dont consider Opportunity to be a soul-less metal husk. We consider it to be a friend, a brave explorer that helps humanity discover new frontiers.

    @Baleur@Baleur5 жыл бұрын
    • Baleur I love what you’re saying, but really I think it’s just people personifying the robot into something more endearing. It’s not so soulless, as it’s just being controlled by humans, or other souls, so there’s still that touch of humanity there I’d say. I’m kind a skeptic on how robots could become conscious, but I agree that I think I’d be willing to set my feelings aside for one if it proves to just be intelligent enough, yknow. It’ll be a longtime until we can get a robot to no longer show its strings when in conversation with it, but I’d like to ask an all knowing AI questions that only it can answer with the best possible calculations :)

    • I witnessed the launch of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. Voyager 1 is in its last few months. I may actually cry. I was just a child but we went to another classroom that had a television to watch Voyager 1 being launched. It was a really big thing back then. There was a lot of fanfare involved with its launch. There were magazine articles, television specials, newspaper articles and even tee shirts. Pioneer space probes did not get that kind of attention. But Voyager space probes did. Over the years I have kept in touch with what Voyager was doing. Soon, there will be nothing being sent from Voyager at all.
