Some places around the world have become must-sees for millions of tourists, but we rarely know what secrets they are hiding. The Roman Colosseum used to be nearly twice as large as it is today! Its architectural glory started to dim down in 217 when a fire struck the upper parapets and much of the building's interiors. The downfall continued with an earthquake, and a big part of the Colosseum's outer ring was damaged. What else happened to the Colosseum and other famous monuments of architecture worldwide? Let's find out!

As for colosseum broken in half, I've always thought that a superpowered gladiator slice it in half in one swing to escape
wow that’s so smart why didn’t I think of that ????
Anime plot right there
I'd watch that anime.
Thor vs Hulk Attack on Titan Edward and Alphonse Elric, take your pick.
@@Manofvideos292 Torikowashi Guradiētā "Demolition Gladiator" 1987, it's rare but that's the finale for season one
Lebanon is NOT located on the eastern shore of the Suez Canal in western Saudi Arabia as 'graphically' indicated in the video.
These people dint understand real geography or country vs city names
I thought i was going silly!
I think this was a great video. Only thing I noticed was that Lebanon is not situated on the Arabic peninsula.
I noticed that too!
Is it just me or did they go through many different ancient locations and only touched on “why half of Colosseum Missing” for 45 seconds?
Clickbait be clickbaiting...
@@KimonFrousios yeah, informational video but will never watch channel again with their CB tactics
I’m 1 min in and was wondering how this thing found in the sea was related to the colosseum so thanks for saving me time
@@monicarenee7949 you’re welcome. Have to admit that seashell thing was sort of neat though
In some of these places, you gotta wonder what's underneath them. It could be ancient ruins that they just built over.
Ground radar imaging sonar there are ways to know for sure. I am sure they already know
Nice job with another video! Keep it up!
Verona Arena, built 30AD, is even older than the Colosseum and is still in use today.
This short video should remind all of mankind that our individual lives are very short. There is much we don't know about what happened thousands of years ago. One thing for sure is that if you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.
6:11 This is Mecca Saudi Arabia not East Lebanon.
@ 6:11 into your video ~ your "map" actually shows Saudi Arabia and ½ way down the Red Sea ... nowhere near "Eastern Lebanon".
heliopolis is in eastern lebanon , not western Saudi Arabia?
So interesting! I love Bright Side!
6:13 “Eastern Lebanon” shows Saudi Arabia
Not Eastern Lebanon at 6:13.
I thought the entire outer shell was gone from years of outsiders coming in and taking the marble after the empire collapsed.
Not just that. The area the colosseum is standing on is earthquake prone. So a lot of the walls were breaking due to it, and then the outsiders came in took pieces of it. Even the Vatican was built by pieces of the colosseum
You failed to mention the colosseum in Nemes France? It looks a lot like the colosseum in Rome but is complete.
So, what about the Margate Shell Grotto? And what does it have to do with the Colosseum?
🥰🥰Thank you for the perfect video from start to finish! This is definitely one of the best works of the year.😘😘💕👍👍
Bot
As always I learned something new, thanks!
Great video and infomation.
6:10 You put the red dot on Saudi Arabia instead of Lebanon
Um... Machu Picchu.. no way that was only built in the 15th century . Maybe the newest layer, but they are pretty cool ruins built over even cooler ruins, which you will find built over walls of such complexity that we couldn't build them, today... A species with amnesia, indeed..
You mean the drainage system under MaPi?
6:13 yep, definitely eastern Lebanon
Thaaaank you
He lost me there
Lebanon location on map is wrong
The 🌎 is wrong too. 💋s to you.
Hey I'm from Margate, Kent, England. Nice to see our local treasure mentioned but would of liked to heard more about kt
6:10 Eastern Lebanon? Funny, I thought the location indicated was Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.
Nice video!
I thought that the colosseum was broken in half by one of the world wars but it was just cause of a fire and a earthquake.
When you said you should go Lebanon to see this and that you put the picture of a map pointing Saudi Arabia in red not Lebanon
Did the same thing for Johannesburg!
I love bright sides content, it’s so interesting and you always learn something new! I am currently trying to do something similar by posting daily facts on yt! The more you know!
assuming its accurate
You know that bright side is not reliable right? Most of his information is untrue
@Amazayn carrot🥕 Thanks, I appreciate your support!

@@leewightman8619 bright side or me? Sorry just asking :)
Thanks for the 45 seconds of info on the title
Croatia has also a beautiful Roman theatre probably in split

Fun, informative channel.
Thank you 👏👏🙏🙏🌷🌷
I have always wondered why there is a chunk missing
Nice video
Hello there! I make entertaining videos as well and I bet I can put a smile on your face ! Just see for yourself and let me know what video I should do or try next! 🌟❤️🔥🙏🏽!!
Very interesting
If you are headed to Lebanon to visit the temples there you will be disappointed if you use this video's directions. The blinking red orb is situated very close to Mecca, KSA. Mecca to Beirut is approx 1500 miles.
6:12 "You only have to head to eastern Lebanon". Proceeds to light up Saudi Arabia
Nice
That's awesome!
You showed Lebanon at the wrong place on the map, it's between Syria and Palestine
yes that was saudi arabia
Essential information
6:11 with all this knowledge, they still have to call western Saudi Arabia Lebanon 😂
I keep telling you officers that MY half coliseum, you cant impound it.
is that not saudi arabia? Lebanon is further up next to syria
I have been to Balbek and lived in Jeddah for 20 years.
You’ve got east mixed up with west and lebanon wrong on the map, what else could be overseen in terms of facts
I also noticed that it was pointed out to western Saudi Arabia
Just me or does the broken Colosseum looks much better as compared to the other
This guy sounds like Chef John from Food Wishes to me. When he's being kept on task for the voiceover.
The missing part of the Colosseo crumnbled in 1349 after an earthquake because side's foundations were layed on the bed of a dried river .
Please make a video about the great South Indian Temples built in during 100 bc and 12 ad
check sicily many well preserved greek temples still there
The claim that the "fractured" look of the Colosseum dates to damage sustained in 217 (repaired by 317, but not to its former state) contradicts the model of Rome circa 325 AD at the Museum of Roman Civilization. That model is considered a masterpiece of scholarship regarding the high point of the city's development. Does anyone out there know what the stadium actually looked like in 325 AD?
I don’t like when the Colosseum’s half is broken.
I always wondered why the colosseum doesn’t get rebuilt with a portion of the admin costs?
Because it's hard to replicate such old architecture while retaining its charm. It would just end up looking weird.
Big part is being restored now. Shoe company is paying.
@@TheMoneypresident yes they were washing in preparation when I was there .
6:10 "You'll have to head over to eastern Lebanon" _Shows Saudi Arabia_
Its missing due to the aftermath of The Dance of Dragons
I bin learning about pomepii in my geography lesson for the volcano
I have been.
woah, nice! never thought the broken part would exist
Cool!
I find this video to be... Highly compeling.
In my trip to Italy I saw the Colosseum and pompai
Machu pichu is older than whatever place he just said. You can tell if something is pre flood by the stone work. The newer something is the smaller and crude the stones get.
I don’t like learning but he some reason make it interesting
How do you find out about this stuff
When I visited the Colosseum it was smaller than I thought.
That's what she said.
wow! i think the half of that Colosseum you can find it in Sorsogon City, The Philippines! hehehehe just try to look and see the Balogo Complex in Sorsogon very Unique one.
Why did you not mention the Pompeï amfitheater?
I thought it was because Vegeta wanted to fight Goku so bad that he blasted a portion of the crowd to the next dimension
the bronze spartan ate the colosseum
Did they find it at the British Museum?
"head over to Libanon..." shows Saudi Arabia. Lol.
Amphitheater in Pula or as locally called Pulska arena in Pula, Croatia is almost 100 older than Colosseum and you didn't even mentioned it
@Modox it's easy google it:P
Oh i tought that was intenionally design in colosseum.
It is about the size of the Rome's Colosseum
It’s refreshing to see amazing ancient architecture that’s NOT only in Europe for once.
Everyone knows it was an earthquake. I just saved everyone 9 minutes.
Vespa comes from the Italian word for wasp. The Vespa scooter is named so because of the sound it makes.
The name vespa as for the scooter, derives from the Italian word for Wasp/hornet, becourse of the enginesound
They are talking about Vespucci
Woow I like.
Is it just me or does the saying "Ends meat" drive you nuts?!
You missed the best one in the best shape where they still do concerts in Pula, Croatia. No need to see the one in Rome compared to this one.
What's the difference. It's was always the Romans that built it.
Ha! Lebanon is NOT on the Arabian Peninsula!
Since when is eastern Lebanon, just a bit in from the Mediterranean coast, situated on the Red Sea near Mecca?
In pula there is a small copy of the coliseum
How does cement catch fire
“Why is half of th-“ me: do you mean a half of a half
School vs bright side
Bright school
The same as Hadrian's wall. Used as a quarry for centuries by savvy locals. Built their cottages for free!
Yeah, when your struggling to survive, historical preservation would be the last thing on your mind.
Where did the lost part of the Colosseum went ? At the British Museum of course !
I like history , crazy guman life maybe 80 years and how every year , century is so diffrent on the world
It was turned into a church, & used for livestock, & people lived in sections, at different times
Other obvious ruins in this vein include Prambanan and Borobudur in Indonesia (in Java). The biggest ruins being around Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Far too much to cover in one video.
For some reason this Is in Madison like a replica
Hey! History mystery dude!
Godzilla took a bite out of it.
and this is why kent is called the garden of england
You marked Lebanon on the map in Saudi Arabia..
6:12 "head over to eastern Lebanon" meanwhile points at Saudi Arabia
