Trying To Figure Out The Sound System Left In My Jeep By The Previous Owner
Now that the Jeep TJ rebuild. is coming to an end we can get a few luxuries like the radio and sound system figured out. The transformation on this old Jeep is almost done but we still have a bit of work left to get it where I want.

As others suggested I think it’s taking time to charge the cap. If you have some approximately sized wire around you could jump let it out to test.
it's all about the amp. if you get lets say and A/B amp you can mess with the speakers more to push out more bass but yet still work as a speaker vsing a 2 way amp. but right now sounds like this setup was to make your speakers play louder and focus on the voices/stuff that does not need bass well the mono is focus on the bass side making the system sound solid for that deep bass .
I would go green exterior and yellow interior. For a different look. So that way your seat belt will match with your exterior.
Big Bird could be rebranded as Cookie Monster with the blue or Oscar with the green lol

If it was my Jeep I’d keep the outside yellow so the name stays the same and I’d go with purple for the interior. Main reason is it’s the opposite on the color wheel but purple is a good royalty color. Just my opinion. Whatever you decide is what’s important. I’m still gonna support you. 💪🏼😎👍🏼

If you go with the blue exterior, you can replace Big Bird with Blue Bird.
Mikey I AGREE LIGHTER GREEN INSIDE. BUT IN ORDER TO KEEP IT BIG BIRD WE HAVE TO STAY AS CLOSE TO A DARKER YELLOW AS POSSIBLE... . But as a secondary and only a secondary AS I mentioned b4 use the blue....... then change it to Blue BIRD 🐦 and a Cookie Monster.......
I am no stereo expert but with the large cap it takes a time to charge and send power to the amp, I think thats how it works to keep a constant power to the amp.
Yeah, you’re the second person that said this I think you might be onto something
I just found something about changing the crossover settings to small speakers not full range or the receiver will try and filter out the bass signal and play only left and right until it's cranked up. Other things were mostly bad wire connections or a rubbed through one grounding out. Not for nothing but water damage may also be causing an electrical failure in a component.
There’s definitely a possibility of all of that lol but I’ll check the settings on the amp
Hey Mike, go with the brighter yellow on the outside and the blue inside. It wouldn't.look too bad with the green belts. If you add yellow to blue you get green. Lol . Looking forward to see what you go with regardless

I been told I set the stereos up the best I had nice subs and alpine in my old blazer people always told me my music was the best sounding they even had me set theirs up. And I had them in my cheerokee. Now my yellow Jeep has a jerry can sub. I need the box with two 12s in it. But the Jerry can sub is cool. But yet in the way type. So box has to be in. But the guy who owned it put amp under driver side seat. Now I gotta re run all the wires.
The reason the subwoofer takes a minute to kick on is because of the capacitor. The capacitor needs time to charge. Each time the capacitor is turned off it discharges and when it’s turned back on it charges back up

I have developed a proprietary paint that replaces lead with ganja. Its best to dry sand without a mask. Just make sure you have plenty of snacks as you might get the munchies.

Mopar purple that they use on some jeeps ans muscle cars would be cool. But blue looks nice and we could name it Cookie Monster.

I have but I don’t have the option to spray and raptor comes out like crap when you roll it

1 - The kick-on wire is now done correctly after your splice. Recommend replacing with a single wire. (eliminate the splice) 2 - The sub amp, if it has a gain setting, be sure it's set to zero. It looked like it's simply not amplifying because the signal it's getting from the head unit is too low when the head unit is set to zero. (zero setting means no gain applied to the original signal BUT the original signal should still be strong enough at zero setting for the sub amp to see and produce an output (run the subs)). Orrr the amp is near failure/toast. As you didn't own it from new, most only get rid of audio stuff when it's crapped out in some way. (or stolen) 3 - Was the left sub in the box actually running? It didn't look like it. And how are they wired inside the box? They should be parallel NOT series. 4 - Absolutely get the amps off the floor ESPECIALLY in a Jeep. Way to much potential for moisture to get in and pool. 10x with a cap in the mix. That thing could short circuit and kill a family friend. 5 - Also, looks like that cap is wired to (powering) your highs and mids amp? If so, delete that connection. A cap is only for use with an amp on subs. It serves no purpose otherwise and could be a power issue all around. And really, it's debatable if it's even useful for subs 98% of the time. So could dump it completely. Up to you. They were originally intended for use in SPL competitions so if you're not into that it's hard to justify its existence there. 6 - Highly recommend black for the inside color for multiple reasons. 7 - Is the power cable to the rear (for the amps) fused at the battery properly? BTW, that power cable is pretty small for powering just one sub amp, much less 2 amps covering full range. Good luck and cheers.

I like the lead-death-yellow. As for the sound system issue with subs.... it seems to me like it might be a voltage issue. Does the HU put out 1.5v or 2v? I'll be shocked if it's a 4v unit. Maybe a LPF somewhere that needs to be upped? Sorry, I haven't done car audio in 20 years. When you crank the volume and sub level, you're telling the HU "MOAR POWA!"

I think you "shocking" the subs to turn on is just charging the capacitor. That big capacitor is charged up by the battery to supply power to the amp for the subwoofers. I'm not sure how to test the capacitor or its wiring to see if its bad, but that's what I think it could be. Great video as always, though!

@SmokinMonkeyOG It could be worth looking into, even if it's working, it could just be too big. Capacitors have what's called a "time constant," a measure of the capacitance x resistance. It's the amount of time it takes for the capacitor to charge or discharge by a certain %. A smaller capacitor, given the same resistance, will charge up quicker, so it could reduce the amount of time it takes for the subwoofer to kick in. Honestly, though, I'm not sure how necessary the capacitor is at all in a system like yours.
Are we just gonna ignore the Blue Bird or blue J nick name evolution possibilities? Personally I would deal with the lead and keep the yellow outside and just black inside but green wouldn't be bad either inside. Keep in mind you may get some light/color reflection if its super bright inside, I went dark on the dash for that reason.
Blue Jay would be dope since we have the Toronto Blue Jays lol and I’ve thought of just that lol doing yellow and dealing with it and something darker inside to hide dirt better

It comes out shitty if you don’t spray it and I don’t have that option since I don’t have anywhere to spray it or access to a compressor currently. Would love to do raptor liner if I could though

Remove that capacitor it is garbage it makes things worst and add a second battery of the same value as the front battery under the hood if you need more real power.
