In Episode 38 Bugsy takes us rock fishing at a Sydney ledge using a light setup with a 20g metal lure, 8lb braid, 12lb mono leader, and 3000 size reel. The target is bonito, a great little pelagic sport fish and not bad on the chew either. Rock fishing is dangerous and requires a high level of experience and knowledge of the ocean. Stay safe on the ledge. Always wear a lifejacket, suitable apparel and shoes. Fish with friends and look out for each other. Only fish when conditions are safest. Enjoy the vid!
GEAR
Rod: Shimano Raider 7'6" Snapper model
Reel: Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000
Line: 8lb braid (found some old line in the garage)
Leader: 12lb monofilament

  • Ah dude, that was a good one. That "Muthos lift" really sits in the spine and autonomous nerve system doesn't it? Poor little rod. Anyway, off to Ottos for something new and fun eh? Grabbed another Zenaq in Melbourne over Xmas, will hit home pool/ledge next week, looking forward to it! See you boys around.

    • Haha... yes a rookie move with that rod. Oh well, it had a good run. Yep, time to find a replacement. Nice you got a new rod. Hopefully the fish cooperate. See you out there

      @IBFishingaus@IBFishingaus4 ай бұрын
    • @@IBFishingaus yeah, let it sink for a bit then it will give you some room before it hits the surface. They work on the surface too though and makes for some good visuals

  • For last couple years or more I’ve been using Arma Metallik metals, admittedly with modest results. However that goes for all my fishing. Still reckon in the right hands, these metals deadly. It was interesting to me watching you, very quickly getting setting that hook. I’ve got a big problem with that side of my fishing. Losing so many fish, mainly Fathead fishing with soft plastics, just a natural fear of pulling it away from them and pulling hooks, getting too tentative and not setting that bloody hook already!!😊

    • I hadn't heard of those before but just checked them out and they look pretty similar. They would work for sure. Yeah, setting the hook is super important especially with light gear but it also species specific. After dropping a couple this session it reminded me to make the effort

  • do you find much of a difference between the 20g and the bigger sizes? I use the 40g a lot and have had a lot of success. Also do you notice they're more inclined to go for the lighter lines? Looks quite challenging trying to land them..

    @darnsmall@darnsmall3 ай бұрын
    • I think it depends on the day. Sometimes they will eat a range of sizes and profiles. Other days they seem to hone in on certain sizes. I use 40g and 60g with my medium set up. 20g weight has always been a favourite of mine for casting with the lighter gear. And yes, I think the lighter leader can make a difference on those days where they are being more fickle for sure

  • Hey mate love the content would love to see more uploads. Just wondering if you can implement the same technique with other metal lures like jigs (the verticle ones used off boats). Im asking as im struggling to find variety with metal lures from stores like bcf and anaconda. Thanks mate

    @grunty3743@grunty37434 ай бұрын
    • Thanks mate. The metal I'm using here should be pretty easy to find and cheap. Check your local tackle store. The ones we spin with like that have the hook on the back, so designed for high speed spinning. Some of the jigs you use off the boat can be used off the rocks too. I would go for the tear drop shaped ones that flutter on the drop in 20g-80g depending on what gear you are using. And use various jigging styles to see what is working on the day. There are specialised shore jigging jigs that are made of zinc and flutter more. And you need a shore jigging rod to get the best results. Sometimes you can spin those ones and it will work but I find more success when I use a jigging action. Hope that helps
