In this video, we delve into the potential matchup between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC light heavyweight division, analyzing why Pereira could face defeat and lose his title to Ankalaev. Despite Pereira's impressive striking credentials and recent success in the UFC, Ankalaev poses a formidable challenge with his well-rounded skill set and dominant performances.
Ankalaev, known for his exceptional grappling and striking abilities, presents a unique threat to Pereira's title reign. His technical proficiency, combined with his size and strength advantage, could prove to be too much for Pereira to handle. Moreover, Ankalaev's ability to control the pace of the fight and dictate where it takes place gives him a significant edge over Pereira.
While Pereira has showcased his knockout power and striking prowess in his UFC appearances, Ankalaev's defensive skills and strategic approach could neutralize Pereira's offense. Additionally, Pereira's relative inexperience in MMA compared to Ankalaev may leave him vulnerable to Ankalaev's veteran tactics and fight IQ.
Furthermore, Ankalaev's recent victories over top-ranked opponents in the light heavyweight division, such as Thiago Santos and Volkan Oezdemir, demonstrate his ability to compete at the highest level. His momentum and confidence heading into a potential matchup with Pereira could further tip the scales in his favor.

  • Dude I can picture Magomed doing everything right for 4 rounds and then easing up a little bit and getting KOd. He has to be perfect for five rounds and avoid standing in front of Alex at all costs. We'll see man it's still a super intriguing fight

  • Obviously, the black belt wasn't gained for knocking Jamahal out, Glover and the team that Alex has been training jiu-jitsu nonstop with wanted to award it to him at 300 for his trainings as a celebration. At most, it might be that they actually thought Jamahal was gonna do like Jan, and was just bluffing about focusing on standing up with Pereira, and Alex would be able to show off his newly learned skills about it. Still yeah, Ankalaev is the big test for Poatan in the division, if he beats him, the rematches with Jiri and Hill, or a match against Roundtree, are all pretty favorable.

  • I'm not one who goes against Perriera and I can see him destroying Ankaliev. I don't see it as over for Alex.. he's getting better each fight..and more comfortable. I know he's would be going up against the best grappler on the division. LOL HIS skillset is not an accident.

  • whilst ankalaev's grappling could be an issue, he also eats leg kicks which obviously plays into Poatan's hands pretty well. So if Pereira can stuff a couple of take downs/get up for at least a round or two, I think he finishes in the third when they do fight. It's a fun fight either way
